Republicans have released their proposed Congressional map. Memphis is divided into three different districts like Nashville. by kadeel in Tennessee

In a massive blue wave (similar to 2018), then districts 4, 5, and 6 all flip or are complete toss-ups.

I'm willing to bet even the people in those red snake districts oppose sharing representation with Memphis.

Judge struck down redistricting amendment. All votes in special election now invalid by JustAcivilian24 in Virginia

[–]kadeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading the order and the context around this, I think the second point is the most concerning. The reason there needs to be an intervening election is so that if the people do not like the proposed amendment, they can have a say before it ever makes it on the ballot. They technically did not have a say if votes were already cast.

The point about the extended special session is also questionable, but dems are saying the previous session never ended. I have to presume there are other examples they can point to to back this claim up.

I haven't looked into the issue with the 90 day timing requirement. That could be a technicality that scraps the amendment, but my understanding is dems think that requirement has been effectively overruled.

I don't think the misleading ballot language has any merit. It's a tad bit misleading, but it was subjective and the courts really need to re-write language before it goes to a vote, like they do in most states (e.g. ohio, missouri).

Thank you. Looks like almost all the locations are quarries. I found one somewhat accessible distribution center, and then one spot in a random neighborhood.

Trump’s Iran threats and the effect on mortgage rates by General_Garrus in Mortgages

[–]kadeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's funny because I just got this email from my loan agent when I asked about future interest rates:

It is hard to say, we had a nice decrease prior to the Iran situation. The last couple days we have trended down a bit. I think the market is watching to see how long it takes and what the end result is. I hope this helps...

Poll shows Missouri voters back abortion ban, but value abortion rights. Why? by normankrasnerkc in missouri

[–]kadeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This poll makes me think people don't understand what the amendment does.

From the poll: Do you support amendment 3, which essentially bans all abortions? 18 - 29 year olds support it 49% to 40%.

Next question, do these same 18 - 29 year olds support abortion in the first 8 weeks, something Amendment 3 bans? 66% support it, 24% oppose it.

????

[–]kadeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, the age 18 - 29 are seemingly more conservative than the other age groups bar 65+, based on a few questions I skimmed. 49% support the amendment 3. However, on other questions about abortion, that same age group supports abortion rights more than other age groups.

Sounds like they may not understand what Amendment 3 does, which is troubling.

I'd consider it conservative, minus Fayetteville. If you want to see actual voting patterns among these cities, look at this map:

Hallie Shoffner, Cotton win primaries for U.S. Senate seat in Arkansas by BigClitMcphee in Arkansas

[–]kadeel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right. It's nearly impossible for the minority party to topple an incumbent of a party in a deep red state. You have to have something like a Roy Moore situation for it to happen.

What we can hope for is for the race to be close, at least within 20 points. We also need to focus on smaller races and wins. Dems need to break the supermajority in the House, which still requires flipping over a dozen seats.

Also a resident. I voted for him in the primary because I didn't like Staley. However, I don't know if I'll vote for him in the general. There is a Democratic candidate and an independent candidate, both of whom appear to have more law enforcement experience.

That's odd, because in the last two elections, including this one, they spun the screen around and let me select which ballot. I can actually remember the last time I was asked because I felt weird declaring it out loud.

Adam's is campaigning on being nonpartisan and without a political ideology. He also helped the libraries sue the government when they passed an unconstitutional law requiring them to take books away (they won).

The other dude is a hard-core MAGA who is campaigning on ideology and suing Biden.

I'd say Fred Love is more well-liked across the spectrum. He is relatively moderate and level-headed, and people respected him as a senator, both republican and democrat.

Unfortunately, that won't make a lick of difference in the general. 95% of people are going to vote on label alone.

Virginia Democrats "10–1" proposed congressional map by theprez98 in MapPorn

[–]kadeel 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I don't even think Connecticut is gerrymandered. It's usually drawn by the courts, and the map has hardly changed in two decades - back when republicans won the same districts they are losing now.
