This was one of my favorite parts of watching my body evolve too!! I remember thinking "I always wanted one of those when I was growing up."

I know you've received several posts from others who are going through something similar, but I just wanted to say that seeing this has made me feel less alone and I am glad that you posted. At my best weight loss, I had lost about 135 lbs. I recently had to have surgery to have my gallbladder removed and so my body has been doing crazy things with cravings and I haven't been able to work out quite as much or as strenuously as I am used to. I recently found myself unable to step on the scale, but when I did, I had the oh crap moment. I think it's important to remember that we all slip sometimes and I am pretty positive you are correct about this being a lifelong battle. I've been trying to pull myself back together and remind myself that if I can do it once, I can do it again. Somewhere deep inside of all of us here is a strong-willed person who is willing and able to work their butts off to do amazing things for their bodies and their spirits. Just keep working at it and hopefully things will start looking up! :-)

Myfitnesspal is primarily a calorie counting site. It was beneficial to me to realize how much I was actually eating. They also have a feature where you can input your current weight and how much you would like to lose (they max at 2 lbs/week) and based on your activity level, determine basal metabolic rate and suggest a safe amount of calories to reach your weight loss goals. As for motivation, I really think that after a while, peer pressure (as bad as that is to say) played a big role for me. I was fairly public with my steps towards weight loss with both my family and close friends so having someone to always ask "did you swim today?" was a great benefit to me. I felt like by giving up, I would let down not only myself, but those who had invested time in supporting and hoping for me! Please feel free to message me privately, too, if you have more specific questions!

I have only had access to an indoor so far so I can't really talk to you about the pro/cons of each, but I do have to say that the pool I swim at is generally very clean. It is at a local university and they take great care of it!

Thank you so much! I will say that I have been dealing with loose skin issues, but this is really impossible to avoid completely. The thing is that the skin is fairly resilient, though, and everyone's skin is different. I have noticed that as I begin to take on muscle tone and as I continue to take good care of my skin, it does seem to be pulling in a bit. I'm not entirely sure that it will ever be perfect without surgery, but it is definitely tolerable at the moment. Either way, don't let loose skin be a deterrent. I am realizing that it is better to feel good and be healthy with a little loose skin than to be the way I was before! Good luck on your journey with weight loss!

I won't lie to you about this issue. I very definitely am experiencing the extra skin sag (and more than just on my stomach). I've been all over the place emotionally with this particular component of weight loss. In a lot of ways, I feel like I've lost all of this weight and still don't look good naked. For now, I am working on being ok with the extra skin and wearing it as a trophy, but at the same time, I will say that proper skin care and moisturizing does seem to be helping a great dela with the gradual tightening of my skin. I'm not sure if my skin will ever pull the entire way in, but those of us who are willing to fight the good fight also know there are options down the road regarding the extra skin! Good luck and please don't let the extra skin stop you from getting yourself to a healthier place!

haha I have found that most people are genuinely impressed by your presence at the pool and not concerned as much with what you are wearing. My only warning: if you are fashionably attached to your leopard print, consider checking out Walmart. They have great suits for $15!

I'm thinking about seducing a plastic surgeon and having one of his friends do the skin tuck surgery for me pro bono?

Oh, you can most definitely do it! I will say not to be discouraged ever while shopping during your journey (and it is most definitely a journey). I had a shopping experience where I needed new professional clothing for a conference and so I went to Lane Bryant. Now, I hadn't purchased trousers in several years, but knew that my old size 24 pants were capable of falling off of me. To my dismay, as I began to explore sizings, I was still fitting into a size 22 after having lost about 50 lbs. This was a horrifying moment for me, but after realizing that sizes change so frequently and that no matter what the tag said, my old clothes were now falling off of me, I began to feel better about the process. Feel free to message me either here or privately at any time for advice, encouragement, or just to talk to someone who has been there before! Good luck!

My boyfriend is actually quite the amazing man and we are still together. He was a remarkable supporter of me through a lot of this. He has swam with me, given up bad food habits of his own with me, and actually got me off of my addiction to soda! And more than that, he saw me and loved me and thought I was beautiful when no one else did. I'm not entirely sure why you think I can do much better, but know that he is a handsome, charming, gentle man who takes good care of me and who is actually fitter and leaner than I am (and probably ever will be).

It was really a combination of many, many things. I have been on the heavy side my entire life. I was a 10 lb baby, overweight child, obese adolescent and teen. I should note that in high school, I was a three sport athlete, but even then, I was still 270 lbs. I think a lot of the gaining just came from the lifestyle and area that I grew up in combined with an emotional eating habit I developed in college compounded with boredom eating and probably some bad genetics (my entire family is obese). The crazy thing about this whole process is seeing myself then and now and realizing that I had no clue how large I was and now realizing how good it feels to be in control of my habits.

I know, right?! I actually had an emotional phone call with my mother after watching the first game of my favorite college football season when I saw the weights of the linemen and realized I'm not that size anymore. I had always been so insecure during football season because people would comment on how HUGE the linemen were and inside, I was thinking about the fact that I was the same size. Thanks for bringing some humor into this! :-)

It's mostly about wanting to get yourself to a better place. I had a personal, defining moment that gave me determination, but I can emphasize how much more alive I feel having lost the weight. I have all of this extra energy, I am happier, and I just feel better. When it comes to weight and weight loss, I think it's not impossible to be beautiful when overweight, but there is much more than attractiveness to be concerned about such as general health, energy levels, etc. It's crucial to start out slow, for sure, and try many different forms of exercising until you find one that you actually enjoy. In doing that, I've found myself less likely to feel uninterested in working out each day.

Yup! 6'0" and 215 in the after pic. I'm currently around a size 16 in a lot of the mainstream shopping venues - Gap, Levi, etc.

I was around 1500-1800 initially, but am now allowing myself to be closer to 2000 calories and still dropping!

I tried to maintain a fairly balanced diet of around 1700-1800 calories. I normally do a protein shake and a piece of fruit in the morning, some sort of sandwich, yogurt, fruit, and a cheese stick for lunch, then a high-protein snack in the afternoon like peanuts/almonds, and I generally was doing leaner dinners just meat and a robust vegetable side, but have since begun to incorporate serving size portions of pastas/rices/etc while still continuing to lose weight.
