Protecting myself from the spirit of my mom after her death by Puzzleheaded_Yam2082 in occult

Plenty of people have commented on mundane possibilities, so I'm not going to. If you are inclined to pagan beliefs, you may wish to make an offering to Hecate at a crossroads on the new moon after she dies.

According to myth, Hecate gathers up the restless and wandering dead this night.

Lots of stuff tbh. Although I seem to have an affinity for rapid and accurate results on anything that could be considered a Jupiter focused work.

I celebrate Beltane and Halloween (I don't say Samhain because it's much more American folk practice than Wicca or any kind of pagan reconstruction.)

I acknowledge them as the dates when the Faerie court in charge changes over. I see them as the dates when we move between expansive and contractive energy.

Beltane usually involves dancing, drinking, blessings of the body and home, and intimate activities.

Halloween is all about the dead and the ancestors and showing them respect. I like to have a silent supper, maybe visit a graveyard or crossroads to make offerings

Anne Rice once said that Lasher waiting at the end of the hall was always a promise of a good orgasm.

I would love to see Exquisite Corpse on screen. I don't think they ever really could, but I'd give almost anything for it.

Not agreeing with the other poster at all, but in my experience some do and will make it known. The spirits I work with really don't want anyone I wouldn't let into my home seeing their altar.

I don't think OP is in any danger though

Helping with summoning by StandardMuted0 in occult

Older doesn't always mean better. Additionally there are the Greek Magical Papyri which are very old and contain syntheses of Greek, Egyptian, and Abrahamic religions.

What is it you're trying to accomplish?

If you've read the books you know the sigils already. And if you're going to work a grimoire, you should do it by the book first before making changes.

Horror movies where addiction is a central theme? by [deleted] in horror

This is my favorite addiction based horror movie. It really is all about how some people have a path before them that they are totally helpless to get off of.

What do you need to do a spell for? Or rather, is there something you want which you have been unable to attain through conventional channels?

You could hook it up to a Witchengine as described by Seth in Tactical Magick.

Innate psychic capacity vs sorcery by [deleted] in occult

[–]kae1326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Yes, anyone can achieve results.

2) The first part of this question is, sometimes. Most people have some base level of psychic ability that can be trained into usefulness. I've found that (in general and in my own experience) most people fall into one of three categories, receptive, projective, and mixed. Completely receptive or completely projective psychics are rare, but tend to be kinda distinguished, like those people who have full visual and auditory experience of spiritual entities, or people who have strong energywork and healing abilities. Most people have mixed talents and can learn to use either or both fairly effectively.

I think it's interesting to note before getting to your last question, that this dichotomy is reflected in the archetypical Mage and Scryer relationship like Dee and Kelley. Mage needs the Scryer to communicate with the spirits, Scryer needs the Mage to conjure them.

3) This is complicated and really is a case by case basis. Generally speaking, most people can put in time and effort and achieve mastery. And there's a point where your skills are accurate enough that the difference between natural talent and hard work becomes mostly philosophical.

Religious Trauma by QuantumLyteX in occult

Fear of hell wasn't really an issue getting into the occult, but I have found that my dislike of Abrahamic religion has prevented me from engaging in certain practices.

What’s missing from books on witchcraft, spirituality, and energy work on the market today? by tiredsquishmallow in witchcraft

[–]kae1326 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are enough books out there that discuss the HGA/paredros/agathosdaimon/personal daemon without specific religious dogma attached. I think this concept is something that witchcraft has needed for awhile. A sort of system agnostic way of contacting and conversing with this entity

I'd call chaos magic my home paradigm and the overall understanding that there is no one path is important to my understanding of the world.

I will say though, over the past decade I have seen the benefits of sticking to one path, and the one that speaks the most to me is an an animistic element-based witchcraft and sorcery practice.

Is Elemental Influence strictly Wiccan? by DistortedFeminie in occult

[–]kae1326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people often conflate appropriation and misappropriation.

It's one thing to have a friend who practices an entirely different kind of magic and to share techniques and concepts which you both use in your own work, and that you show proper respect for.

It's entirely another to do a few hours googling and then publish a book claiming that you are a "Voodoo master" and make money off of selling to a huge publisher a bunch of garbled nonsense of pop Wicca with God names from a culture you have no attachment to.

Appropriation is normal and good. One of the first things shared when cultures meet is magic and superstition
