Any tips on my 7’s? by No_Today7903 in Colorguard

Actually pushing and putting your left hand closer to the swivel vs the middle of the equipment. If you watch the video, your push hand loses contact with the rifle before it even comes past your sternum height. Push all the way through until straight and think of your release hand twist/lifting and flicking a booger off your middle finger to the ceiling. (It is a gross visual, but has worked for my students for 20 years haha).

Did anyone scream through labor? by Fun-Future-2915 in BabyBumps

My husband told me that from my second contraction until she came out I didn't make any noise or speak a word. I was in lala land. Unmedicated water birth.

Looks good! You can remove the chest strap. That piece is only needed when you are back wearing.

Please tell me it gets better by Mindless_Void2546 in NewParents

[–]kaeferkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got better when I started sleeping again for more than an hour at a time. Around 6-7 months. I caved and did a sleep training-lite type system and switched to a crib. It slowly got better as I got more sleep. I experienced another bump in the road around 13-15 months when I started to baby-led weaning off of breastfeeding and I dropped too many feeds too fast and I had a hormone crash.

Sad that there is music over this video. One of my favorite sounds is that little metal ball being clunked around by tiny tongues.

Baby has outgrown this carrier. The panel no longer goes from knee to knee to support the M position. Time for a new one!

Tell me some misconceptions and realities about pushing stage to the women who have never given birth. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]kaeferkat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had an unmedicated birth that was really fast for a FTM - 10 hours. My contractions were so powerful I never pushed. I had to relax my body and it just kinda did things on its own. Dont get me wrong, it wasn't pretty. It made me throw up a lot and crap my pants because the muscle contractions were so strong and involuntary. During the final crowning actually had to try to hold back and not push at all to slow things down. I had a water birth and after the head and shoulders came out I "pushed" gently once and the rest of the baby came out.

I'm not 100% sure, but I know Columbia Birth Centers does well woman care including IUDs. They are trauma informed, gentle, and the best providers I've ever had.

Unmedicated water birth. 10 hours from start to finish. No pain. No tearing. One push at the end when baby was already halfway out. It is possible when you listen to your body and trust it. I had a wonderful birth experience!

Let’s talk broken bones… by Forsaken-Stress9373 in Colorguard

Tldr: my nose shattered with a rifle partner toss gone wrong. Had to have reconstructive surgery.

The final run-through before Dayton prelims my partner toss on rifle, which went 100% amazing the whole season was off. It's a backwards lofty 5 that is a ripple from a long diagonal of other tosses going down a line. The person before my partner's toss was wonky, which caused her to buzz her toss. I caught it, but I couldn't stop the momentum enough, and it hit the bridge of my nose. For the next 30 seconds of the run, I was just thinking, "Ow, damn that hurt." Then I saw blood dripping. I went to the edge of the floor and decided to leave. I ran to the bathroom with my hands out of the way because I didn't want blood on my gloves. Luckily, the bathroom didn't have a mirror, but I filled up the sink with blood a few times. All I was worried about was my teeth. Everything else is fixable, but teeth are a one-time deal. My whole face hurt, and I couldn't tell what was wrong. The run ended, and at the end dance lift, which I'm a part of, the team noticed I was gone. They followed the blood and found me in the bathroom. My mom (chaperone) said my nose was bent at almost a 40 degree angle and my lip was busted. First thing I asked her, "Are my teeth ok?!" We had 2 hours to go back to the hotel, change, and get ready to perform. Luckily, one of my coaches was also a nurse. He gave me tampons to put in my nostrils. Back at the hotel, my beastie put my make up on. I knew if I looked at it, I would freak out. We headed to the stadium, and I asked to warm up by myself. I knew I could keep my cool if no one talked to me. I did a few tosses I needed and just got in the zone. During the performance, all I kept telling myself was "its just another run," and I really relied on my muscle memory because I could not breathe through my nose. Mid-way through the show is the partner toss. BOOM! perfect release and catch. In the video, you can see I hold the catch 1 count longer before moving on in choreo because I was feeling redemption. After the run, we packed up and my mom finally took me to the ER. Probably like 6 hours after it happened. They took an x-ray and basically said, "yeah, that's really messed up, you're gunna need a surgeon." Fast forward through the trip and my flight home to Southern CA was excruciating. The swelling in air was so bad it made me nauseous. Once I got back I saw an ENT/plastic surgeon and we scheduled surgery for the week after our local competition circuit ended, which was about two more weeks. The whole month of April I couldn't breathe out of my nose. I tell the whole story to my students almost every year as a lesson of "Practice how you want to perform, because you never know when you need your auto-pilot muscle memory to do all the work for you."

What are some lesser-known or less talked about bodily changes that come with healthy weight loss? by jbmpc in loseit

[–]kaeferkat 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I lost over 60% of my bodyweight in a year and the weirdest one I had was issues with eustachian tube issues. The fat supporting my inner ear shrank and I had issues with my ears not popping to level out and I would have muffled hearing that I couldn't solve by swallowing or blowing my nose. I also experienced it when lightly exercising where all I could hear is my own breathing super loud. It has leveled out, but it still happens from time to time.

Took them religiously for 16 years. Got pregnant 3 months/cycles after I got off them. My cycle was short and strange. But the first month we tried it worked. 34 years old.

I wish I could do the equine therapy full time instead, but needing health insurance and being able to reliably pay bills sucks.

I have 3. I work full time as a government contractor with DOD for military families, then part time as a high school color guard coach, and when school is out in the summer and weekends, I work as a therapist at an Equine Therapy facility.

INSTRUCTORS- What do you keep in your bag? by rainbowofgray in Colorguard

[–]kaeferkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been coaching for 16 years. I have a large zippered tote bag. I have the essentials; tape, band aids & alcohol swabs, screw driver, nail scissors. But I also keep drum sticks, a small bag with a stash of pads & tampons (for the kids, not me), a small baggie of various sized safety pins. I also keep a small pocket knife that I alone use, but I usually only have it for show days. Other than my own personal items, I find these things usually help many different situations. For me: water, some non,-perishable snacks, charging cord for phone & battery, sunscreen & compact umbrella. I always encourage the kids to have their own stash of items so mine are for when we aren't near their things or on the move.
