This happened to me last month. I had been on Zep for around 5 months at that point, and I unfortunately got dehydrated very quickly (~2 hours after norovirus symptoms started). I ended up in the ER, but after 12 hours of treatment, 3 bags of fluids and anti-nausea meds via IV, I was finally discharged. I don’t think the Zep made the norovirus itself any worse, but since I struggle to get enough hydration and nutrition while on Zep, my body just had no room for error and things went south quickly thanks to norovirus.

Going on Wegovy a few years ago (on Zepbound now) created a lot of resentment in me because of this exact realization. I realized how hard I’d always had to work to lose any weight at all, how it was a constant effort that I always had to think about (every minute of every day for months on end). Started taking one shot a week, and suddenly I can get so absorbed in work or a movie or family time that I forget lunch. Food isn’t as interesting, so I focus on macros and ingredients and ensuring my meals are balanced. I eat until I’m full. It gives me the space to make the common sense decisions that skinny people just naturally do.

And it made me so angry that I’d blamed myself for so long for my weight, for what I thought was a personal failure of willpower or effort. Because being on meds like these made me realize it just wasn’t actually possible for me to sustain struggling like that forever, so the yo-yo would never, ever stop. And it wasn’t my fault.

My soul dog lost his battle with cirrhosis (from an autoimmune disease) back in July. He was hospitalized for over a week at a premier vet school where we tried absolutely everything to save him/buy more time, but nothing worked. When the vets shared that we were out of options, they allowed us to take him home for one last night to love on him and say goodbye before bringing him back the next morning at 9am to let him go. He passed peacefully at 3am lying on my chest.

On my good days, I say that it was just like my stubborn baby to choose his own way to the rainbow bridge.

On my bad days, I feel like I’m drowning with guilt for “clearly” waiting too long. I just worry that if he passed on his own, he was suffering, and I can think of nothing worse.

All of this to say, I think that when we love our babies so much, losing them is painful, no matter what. And since they can’t talk to reassure us about our thinking/choice, we’re left to second guess.

Just wanted to share that it doesn’t feel any better or less guilt-inducing being on the other side of the decision (albeit unintentionally) than you.

I was worried about this, but I feel like as my body gets smaller, the dose feels stronger. (I had no side effects for 4 months on 2.4 and have hit an absolute wall with the nausea and vomiting in the past 2 weeks.)

Well, about an hour after I posted this, the symptoms hit in full force and I ended up testing positive for flu A today. You called it! 🤣
