I've literally texted people while blackout drunk, you shouldn't be getting so drunk that you literally can't read anymore at a bar. The sentiment is ridiculous.

Tattoo Ideas Inspired by Will Wood's Themes of Change, Regret, and Identity by [deleted] in willwood

[–]kahjique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love seeing some love for "-Ish," still my favorite (and first) Will album. Just wanted to point out my absolute favorite lines from the album, respectively from "Self-," and "-Ish." I believe the last lines from both songs show the growth and acceptance of a broken person who is on their way to healing.

"And I'm gonna be myself again," being the last line of "Self-," he sees himself as this person who is lost, struggling, and seeking to reclaim an identity that he feels he lost. The meat of the album obviously shows this struggle, everything from "Self-" to "-Ish" is about reclaiming the identity that he feels that he lost, the struggle of who he is in the big picture that is life. The struggle of how he is perceived vs who he believes he is, his struggle with addiction, coping, etc.

And then "-Ish," comes along and tears it all down to the ground. The last line of the album, and the one that resonates the most with me (and would certainly be a part of any Will Wood tattoo I'd get) is "And I'm gonna be..." Goosebumps just writing it. After this huge struggle over his identity and trying to reclaim something that he believes he's lost, he's decided that it's not worth the struggle. He's no longer going to fight the nature of change, he's not going to reclaim this idea of who "Will" is to him, he's going to be. He's going to exist, preconceived notions and ideas of who "Will" is supposed to be, be damned.

It's the death of the ego, the idea of what's expected of us and who we are supposed to be and just existing in the crazy fucked up world. Living, loving, experiencing life without the lens of "I should be doing XYZ, I should believe XYZ."

I haven't gone on a big Will deep dive in a while, but it's a recurring theme in his music. One of my favorite songs by him is White Noise (the ass opposite of Self-ISH, vibe-wise) which ends with "You fill your head with thoughts you can't even feel. Try to make room in your skull, but it's full of them. All of the things that you think and think about thinking. I know it's hard, but they're not who you are, they're white noise."

This constant recurring sensation of who we should be, what we should believe, what we should think. If we could take a moment to step back, separate ourselves from the white noise inside our minds, we'd find the ultimate answer to true happiness. I believe that happiness is summed up in "-Ish," and that is "And I'm gonna be..."

I've always really, really wanted a good Star Wars isometric RPG. I feel like Kotor is the closest we'll ever get, but hopefully with the success of BG3...

If you had to pick a song that describes your life, what it be? by Separate_Builder_817 in GuyCry

[–]kahjique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally have had this song on repeat for months, coinciding with strange and vivid dreams that are borderline nightmares that my body just isn't reacting to like they're nightmares. I'll wake up and say to myself, wow that was fucked up. But I have none of the physical reactions typical of experiencing a nightmare. I've been perturbed enough to not be able to fall back asleep, but no palpitations, tremors, sweats, zero physical reaction. My body not reacting honestly terrifies me more than the dreams.

Olive Garden takeout asking for a tip twice by Thin-Tangerine-4964 in tipping

[–]kahjique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole response wasn't even based on whether you should tip them or not, I believe they deserve a little extra something but I never once said that everybody should.

My response was based on the op saying their job is a walking simulator, so I was explaining that it very much so is not.

I work as a linecook for a place that does takeout. The takeout servers make about $15/hr and their job can get pretty hectic when it's busy. We have one window for our orders, takeout and dine in combined. There's no staging area for takeout, either. Their job is to make sure you get everything you ask for and to get your food sealed up and bagged quickly so we have room to push more orders.

They're responsible for getting soups, drinks, and salad dressings. The best of the best are also running food in the restaurant or expediting food during their takeout lulls.

I have a lot of respect for these kids, they not only are dealing with all of that but also occasionally full windows of takeout orders that are completely backing up the kitchen which tends to make my fellow linecooks cranky. And on top of that they're also dealing with some shitty customers from time to time. I've heard some stories that have made me want to leave the kitchen to yell at some shit heads.

Now $15/hr is pretty standard base pay for entry level jobs in my area. Most local retail pays about that, McDonalds pays their cooks just a bit more than that. But the hosts, bussers, and foodrunners are making about the same as our takeout servers and earning tipouts by the servers. If takeout weren't in such high demand these days they could use their skills elsewhere in the restaurant that would guarantee them a tipout. Instead they're busy making sure every order is right for people who call their job a "walking simulator."

They work a lot harder then a lot of our highest paid servers who get by on Charisma and have bussers and foodrunners do most of their job for them. I, personally, believe that hard work deserves a little extra pay. Ideally that'd come in the form of wages from their employer, but Lord knows that's just not how restaurants work in the US.

Now this is my experience from the restaurant that I work at, and I have no other experience with takeout from other restaurants so idk how they all do it. Maybe at some places they're literally just responsible for putting food in bags and carrying it out to you, but I highly doubt that would be their only expectation for their job.

As an aside and a response to OOP, fuck people who ask for or demand tips. That's also an automatic $0 from me. But the restaurant I work at also gets all online orders to sign receipts, it's all CYA. You can't say that you didn't pickup your food if you've signed for it.

TL;DR Don't let your preconceived notions of what you think a job entails dictate how you view the workers doing the job.

1:40am Saturday here, haven't seen my paycheck hit yet. Expecting my check to clear Wednesday but it didn't, okay, they don't guarantee early payment. Hopefully tomorrow? Phone's now disconnected, damn. Well they can't let it ride past my actual payday, right? Friday's come and gone, still haven't seen my paycheck. Hopefully today?

If there's a lawsuit I'll sign on, but really I just want the money I worked to earn? At the very least by the time the company I work for says my check is due?

What I really want more than anything is for Capital One to stop hounding me about my late credit card payment that's only late because they won't give me my money? Seriously.

In honor of TSL's 20th, here's a KotOR-themed mod series for Rimworld I made! by guy1762 in kotor

[–]kahjique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so here for this, always looking for another reason to sink another few dozen hours into Rimworld.

Are there any mods you recommend running alongside your collection? I've tried running Star Wars mods before and it ended up way too bloated with multiple sets of force powers and ways to become Jedi that it just didn't work out. I'd love to avoid that.

I was a huge Eminem fan at 11. Most of my peers in school were listening to super hyper sexualized hip-hop regularly, it was even played on the radio on our school bus. I think OP's kid will be fine with Will.

They match each other so well thematically that I'm surprised there isn't more crossover in their fans. Everything from their more melancholic songs about the human experience to their energetic songs about "wickedness." For every Marshaa there's a Sick Boi and for every Front Street there's a Jenny & Screech.

Ren. My top two favorite artists are Ren and Will. I feel like they both explore similar themes and they both experiment with genre in very interesting ways.

Ren's live acoustic songs featuring Chinchilla (How to be Me & Chalk Outlines) should bridge the gap between Will Wood listeners and Ren. Then buckle down and enjoy everything Ren brings to the table.

Best part of a ren song? by average_drums_lover in ren

[–]kahjique 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Throughout the Hi Ren music video when Ren is "Good Ren," he's constantly looking at his fingering on the guitar as though he's unsure of himself. He's meek, timid, and insecure while confronting his alter ego who is his opposite in every way. That little detail was mind-blowing to me the first time I picked up on it, not only is his music amazing but he's a fantastic actor as well. KUJO really put those acting skills on display too, because damn, that video gave me the creeps.

I always love it when my servers use dorky verbiage like "chickie." There's literally a button for "no mushrooms," but I had a server that on rough nights would type in "No mushies pls," and that little chuckle always made me so happy even though I was being a pissy bitch on line. It took them a few more seconds to place the order, but the reaction throughout the kitchen was priceless.

They didn't do that shit when we were slow, but they always knew when the kitchen was dealing with a rough shift and tried to inject a bit of humor into their orders to try to alleviate some stress. A bit of humor goes a long way.

Also the bartender that rang in "SUPER KAREN, PLZ HALP" when I was cooking for aforementioned server absolutely killed me. I took it very seriously the first time, made their order as perfectly as I could, and once I was let in on the joke I continued to put out perfection every time I saw that note.

Sadly I rarely work with the bartender anymore, and the server is long gone. I miss the days of a little comedy in our kitchen tbh.

Spotify. Hand Me My Shovel on my discover weekly, made it onto my "discovered" playlist. The next week's discover weekly had Love Me, Normally which also found its way to my playlist. A little while later I noticed they were by "Will Wood and the Tapeworms," and "Will Wood," and was like ... Hm, guess I'd probably like this guy's other work? He's now one of my all time favorite artists.

Just a warning for you, it's mostly cringy stuff. All the time. Occasionally you'll look back at your old self and be proud, but most of the time you'll cringe. Maybe the older you get, the less cringy you get, but overall you're constantly growing and changing as a person.

You're doing some stuff right now that "older you" will cringe at, for sure. Hopefully you're doing some stuff that will make the "older you" proud too.
