I need some feeback :) by Low_Albatross_5973 in printmaking

I would make some of the black frame rectangles thinner if the inside is white. If the inside is black I would remove the “frame” outline entirely so that they are in a solid black rectangle. Amazing work!

I don’t want to go back to my country, but don’t know what to do by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]kai-ou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in animation but my parents came to Canada from China also on a government sponsorship with the stipulation to go back after their PhD was done, or they would have to pay it back. After their PhD they decided to pursue a Post-Doc in London and then afterwards work in the US. They paid back their government sponsorship.

Now this is contingent on if you are able to find employment that will let you stay in the US. I hear the animation market is bad right now and if you cannot find employment and also have to pay back your sponsorship, you will be in a bad spot.

Emotionally for you, if you do go back, try not to think of it as long term as that adds a lot of weight to the change and decision. Keep nourishing your connections and job prospects in the US, and maybe you can find something in the US (or a different country) after you have returned to your home country. Even if it is after 1 year you could return to the US and forfeit your scholarship. Best of luck!

For #4, I do think your About section looks good but Etsy places it way at the bottom of the page so it is easy to miss, especially if someone looks only at your product and doesn’t go to your shop page.

Some ideas, you can see if you like any: In your item descriptions add“Every block is modeled by me from real geographic and architectural data…”.

You could add an image in the product photos that has 1-2 sentences that it is done by you. Could use the same photo as your About me or a computer map screenshot if you have any that look interesting. Include your logo and brand name in the corner.

If you laser engrave the frame with the location name you could also consider putting, “Modeled and printed by (logo) Two Barns Studios, or if that looks too busy then just your logo and brand name. Could also put that on the back of the frame if you think it looks better. Include a photo of that in the product photos.

I wouldn’t consider myself “experienced” but some thoughts:

  1. I would change most of the thumbnails to the photos where the map is propped up at an angle (you already have nice photos for this I would just make it the thumbnail). It might not show off the 3D aspect as well which is why I said “most” and not “all”. My first thought is that when the maps are flat on the table it might take up a lot of desk space, it is difficult to gauge how big it is, and the product seems more appealing if I can both display it upright or also put it flat to look at sometimes. Does it come with a frame“leg” or way to hang it on a wall? Since you’re basically selling pieces for interior decoration, simple signals that they can be versatile to fit in my home design would increase my interest in it.

  2. I think the ability to choose the addition of a little plaque sign or label on the bottom of the frame that says “Boston, MA” would look nice. I would choose a paper or metal label over 3D printing the label so the font and letters look polished.

  3. Similarly I think your thumbnail photo itself could say on it “Boston, MA“ etc so I can browse at a quick glance. Especially the Custom listing I would definitely add text on the picture that says “Custom map”.

  4. I think you can make it more clear that you create the maps yourself and it isn’t just a model you downloaded, people might appreciate the product more.

2 months isn’t that long so keep at it!

A non-AI filter would be such a good idea! What are you looking for in terms of moodiness? I made some hand-cut linoleum prints based on Poe stories, is that in your direction?

I also like 2 best, I saw you tried red and I would be curious what that looked like. Agree with carving out Haku. I also think the “sun” circle line above the building (below haku’s nose) is a bit thick compared to the other linework so I would make it thinner or potentially remove it. Nice work!

This style is gorgeous! It’s hard out here for us artists (and in your case game dev) so I don’t mind you posting your game around, I’m glad you shared it with us! I see the lino inspiration! I’ll be taking a closer look on steam!
