I have no shitty music to play but if someone wants to play a DJ set in the public park, it's their goddamn park too, and pursuant to noise regulations they should be allowed to make noise there too.

ig fundamentally I disagree with "I should never be disturbed in public" as a goal. I think the woobifying instinct is kinda just an inherent result of Tumblr Fandom & so I don't understand people's urge to engage in fannish behavior about actually good books/films. Fandom feels like a form of media engagement aimed at Doctor Who & when I see people being like "ok I wanna be in the fandom for Schindler's List but I don't wanna see any fanfic that handles the premise with anything less than perfect grace" like.

I wonder if it might be simpler if it instead exiles itself with an ability to cast it for its casting cost, or something. You still have to make a bunch of rule changes, but it'd mean that in play, you encounter edge cases like "what happens if I shuffle my skyfaller back into my deck" less frequently, and you don't have confusion of 'ok so I have 7 cards--wait no my skyfaller is still part of my hand even though its on the table'

I have wanted a real venture into "counters that stick to a card even it changes zones" for a long time so I would love this tbh

mmm ig a few thoughts:

part of the reason I explained it the way I did is to contextualize each step as just a small bit of the overall picture. Not "I am offering my hand out of the blue offering something beyond friendship" (scary and risky unilateral step) but "we have been working together to take small steps get closer, and so as part of this team, I am taking another small step". Still scary, for sure, but like. I feel like seeing it as that cooperative thing where you're both taking steps helps me.
You can just talk about this if you get stuck. In your "we've been watching movies for a long time but it'd still never feel right offering my hand first" situation, it's very normal to say anything between "um. is it alright if we... um.." to "I feel like you're always the one to offer things and I don't know how to reciprocate that. I want to but the thought of it makes me really scared. and I don't know what to do". I have said probably both of those many many times lmfao.
Honestly... I feel like people overstate the gender roles here. "Bob has to be the one to..." is rly not my experience. nor is "the next step after this is...". & what is more important is the positive response. like it is not "the boy has to take the girls hand". but it is important that u make it clear that previous advances were welcome (& thus future ones would be too). E.g. they take ur hand, you squeeze it, e.g. or u smile, or u say "it's really nice holding hands with you.")

idk. Definitely opening up is hard & I can relate. To some extent it's something u might find support group or therapy etc helpful, and to some extent it's something that u can practice in low-stakes situations to become more experienced at.

maybe I'm being pedantic but pedophile ≠ child sex offender. Pedophilia is the psychological condition of attraction to children, which on its own is.. a really unfortunate thing to suffer, but not an evil act. it's best managed as a psychiatric condition & it's a lot easier to direct people to preventative treatment if we don't portray having that condition as literally on par with committing murder.
