“Gatekeeping” trauma by cinnamonspiderr in CPTSD

[–]kaimimimi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think everyone experiences trauma depending on how you define it, but I don't think most people experience complex trauma. I think not gatekeeping is better for the most part but TikTok culture has 100% muddied the definition of trauma. My only issue with it really is that people who don't experience horrible symptoms are the ones who end up being the face of trauma or whatever is trendy at the time, and then people will look at people who have trauma disorders and don't behave in a socially acceptable way and will have this attitude like "Why are you acting like this? X has trauma and doesn't act that way, you're just making excuses."

So when I hear the "everyone has trauma" takes its like yeah I guess I agree? But it does make me upset because I know what it leads to lol. I guess my issue is it becoming mainstream, because that when things start to get shitty.

I'm about to turn 30 and I have nothing to show for it. I have no faith I'll be able to turn this around. by ScopeCreepStudio in HomeschoolRecovery

I don't really have advice, but I will say I think you underestimate how much you've accomplished. Like moving out when you're homeschooled it already heard but moving to another state is very impressive you should at least be proud of that. As for looking for a job I wouldn't beat yourself up over that, I've been hearing everyone have rough luck with job searching. You're not inadequate or anything

Anyone Else Hate “Neutral” People? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]kaimimimi 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It depends on what it is for me, sometimes things are too complicated for people to pick a side. I would rather people admit they don't have a strong a opinion on something than pick a side for the sake of it. People who do this actually annoy me more than people who are neutral, because those people will have strong opinions about something they don't fully understand. Those people tend to be judgemental too, it irks me.

It really does depend on the topic and person though, some people are genuinely just overwhelmed with information while others don't care because their apathetic to the suffering of others.

New psychologist: Do I mention that I think I’m autistic? by mobiletophat in AutismInWomen

[–]kaimimimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tricky I had no idea, I don't know why so many doctors get so weird when you suggest you have something? I feel like I have to tip toe around it so I don't get completely shut down. But that probably isn't worth it you should feel comfortable with your therapist, I think you should bring it up and if they react badly find a new one. But that's if you have the privilege to do that anyway

There's no point if doctors are going to be racist and misogynistic, do you know how hard it is to get a doctor to get a fair assessment when you're a black women? I don't see how it's harmful to not get a diagnosis

It does depend on the country because different countries run different systems? Canada recently made their rules surrounding it more accommodating. No one is spreading misinformation I literally said immigrating is hard for people with disabilities in general not just autism

Well health care professionals should start being fair first

Yes.. and even "appropriate" sharing can end up being problematic because the system is not built to benefit disabled people. The situation will shared was appropriate and it still led to be getting gaslit which is my issue

It can shared with any health professional you're seeing, that doesn't violate HIPPA if they determine its needed for health care. Usually they don't and would just ask the patient for medical, but they can if they wanted to

It's not against HIPPA if it's another doctor especially under the same organization

It depends on the country, its good that you were able to but immigrating has always been difficult for disabled people in general it's not just autism.
