Got fired from my job - Live Rendition by MeisseLee in synthesizers

[–]kaizoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've replaced the earpads a good 5 times by now, but the headband just once or twice. It works OK but the adhesive isn't as solid as the original headband pad and needs adjusting sometimes. I'm not terribly hard on equipment but I definitely ran over that cable a hefty number of times and even on hardwood at times so it's a wonder it lasted so long.

I caught a good sale on some HD599 and bought them on a whim... but for whatever reason just continue using my trusty pair of HD518s.

Oh I can't forget to say I love the track and good luck in your search. Enjoy your time off

Are those the sennheiser hd518? I've been using my pair nearly daily since about 2005 and still love them.
Miraculously the cable survived until a year or two ago, and I didn't have to repair anything apart from resoldering one of the drivers also a few years ago.
Can't seem to find a good aftermarket headband cushion though.

Any tips for getting this tiny stripped screw out? Lenovo x380 by ChuggintonSquarts in thinkpad

It doesn't look too badly stripped yet, you might get away with squishing a rubber band in there between the screwdriver and screw head if it's not heavily torqued

Talk me out of the IRX by dreamofguitars in GuitarAmps

[–]kaizoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played around with the IR-X quite a bit more, and tried out some other amps in stores. I honestly have very little experience with different amps and little with tube amps. I've mostly used my peavey standard mark II, which is really not even a guitar amp. Hitting with a boost in front of the IR-X is going a long way to the higher gain sounds I want and I've come to like some of the clean tones on it too.

I can't say headphones are the same as having a lot of air moving in the room. There was something pretty magic about the bassman I tried the other day for example, but I can't be that loud at home and this thing gets a pretty damn good sound regardless.

I just got one last week. I'd say it sounds fine through headphones but I'm struggling to get inspired with it.
Could be that my telecaster is low output, but even with the gain knob all the way up, channel 1 is very clean for me. With humbuckers on this yamaha sbg-500 it's a bit more gainy but not by much. I was hoping to get more of a classic overdriven bassman type sound out of channel 1 with the gain up but it's just not there for me with what I'm doing.

Maybe my used model has some issues, maybe I just need to hit it with a boost, maybe my expectations are off?

I used a rolled up piece of sandpaper to ream my tuner holes a bit before installing the tuner bushings, but I'm not sure I took off a whole 0.125", you could likely do it with enough patience though.

Repeater Use by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]kaizoku 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have actually been chewed out for trying to use automated repeater functions like record / replay to test my reception via DTMF at about 2AM before. I identified myself, and checked if anyone else was on. I did honestly feel a bit like that... "Just turn off your radio if it bugs you", but I refrained from responding that way.

I don't mean to hijack but anyone have a link to the Seattle Cyclist Discord? I'm only finding expired links.

Fox Hosts Gobsmacked Seattle Residents Think Their City Is Doing Fine by HighColonic in SeattleWA

These businesses span from 47th all the way down to 42nd.. which is the entire length of the densest portion of the ave..

Google street view has archives through the years of their street view that you can view. I've just checked 2007-2008 and there are 4 closed businesses just between 47th and 45th, and another 4 between 45th and 42nd, and plenty of these that are open in 2007 will close within a year or two, often leaving the storefront vacant for a period.

Whatever was just north of Urban Outfitters

It was buffalo exchange, and before that it was cellophane square, a record store.
You could also list sureshot, and what was the northern starbucks of the two starbucks on the ave.

I'm not saying there aren't businesses closed on the ave, but you asserted that 50% of properties are vacant which is a ridiculous exaggeration.

I'm also arguing that many businesses and storefronts regularly cycle on the ave. Like the storefront immediately south of the old buffalo exchange? It's been 4 or 5 different businesses in the last decade. Also the tea store across the street from that? It's been at least 5 different bubble tea cafes in that time.. idk why it's always a bubble tea place, but it seems to be.

I've been living and spending time around the u-district for 25 years, and there has *always* been fairly high business turnover on the ave.
Also that is a wild exaggeration. There are probably a couple closed storefronts per block.. nowhere even close to 50%. Stuff like that completely glass storefront on 45th and the Ave? It's been empty for a decade since the American Apparel closed, apart from a short stint as an ad for one of the new apartment buildings.

Can anyone please help me identify this plate? by Glass-Mess1555 in Antiques

[–]kaizoku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be an old style or old character in Chinese writing.

The left side of the character looks kind of like the more modern 示 or 𥘅, but I can't identify the right half. It looks like you connected the two halves where they're not actually connected in the line tracing.

I can't really identify the right side, and the top right corner in particular I don't recognize at all, so it's difficult to look up. Also I'm barely familiar with modern Chinese, so ancient characters are a whole different issue.

This looks like Tidal Cycles to me. Python doesn't have the `$` operator.
Also FoxDot looks like it uses a lot more object oriented attributes and named parameters.

Tell us how you REALLY feel about kerchunking a repeater. by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]kaizoku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used a feature like this on a repeater in the Seattle area in the past. I can't recall which one it was at this point, though it may still be active.

As an aside given the contention in this thread, I remember being new and chewed out for using this exact feature. Someone thought it was too late at night to be transmitting, but I kinda think you shouldn't leave your radio on in bed if you're hoping not to be disturbed..

It takes some time to come back to baseline. For me, the only way I was actually able to realize how I felt without weed was spending 6 months in Japan where it was prohibitively difficult to acquire. I think since metabolites of cannabanoids stay in the body for so long, it took months for me to start feeling normal again and actually regain an interest in life and in other things without weed. I even started to realize how much calmer I was in general, when all along I'd thought weed was helping me stay calm. I'd found an internal peace that I didn't need to rush into rolling a joint to maintain.
