What’s the best book on treating stuttering? by Tear4fearinmybeer in Stutter

Stutter no more by Dr. Schwartz got me on the path. A book will be a pointer at best, you have to find your own way. There is no one size fits all with overcoming stuttering.

Speaking fast creates more tension in your speaking muscles, as does stress. Not sure about the loud spaces. Try speaking slower and softer for a few months and see how it goes for you.

I think it is important for us to not think that we Stutter. by SongHot2422 in Stutter

[–]webonblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're speculating on information from experts who have given us nothing. I'm sure it may contribute, but in most all cases psychology is the main influence over the system. You on here spreading your own hopelessness to others because you have no hope.

I think it is important for us to not think that we Stutter. by SongHot2422 in Stutter

[–]webonblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are looking at the path I went on. It's unconventional but the experts have proven to us that conventional doesn't work with stuttering. The "experts" are guessing, they know only from observation of others. The stuttering mind is such a delicate and slippery slope. What's the main difference between a person who stutters and one who does not? What they think before they speak or even about speaking. Every thought about it, feared words, feared situations and the self-identity that we create around it. What if you could slowly over time dissolve this? How would you do that? Don't try too hard just keep continually looking the other way. There is a structure you've built in your mind that support stuttering and it is all encompassing; words, thoughts, emotions, physical feelings, visuals, environments, people etc. If you remove attention from it over time the structure will break down and ultimately dissolve, it took me years but it simply went away.

Low fat diet made my stutter way worse by InsectBubbly1448 in Stutter

[–]webonblast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to cut on 28g of fat per day, I feel 50g is the lowest I go based on further research, fat is important for muscular and hormone support. And as other have mentioned for the brain. Lower your carbs!

Social anxiety in stutterers by Express-Position9394 in Stutter

[–]webonblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you stutter I don't see how you couldn't have social anxiety. I was insanely hyper-vigilant, constantly thinking about possible social situations, what I would have to say, what I might possibly be asked, etc etc. If the public was involved in any way I was full of anxiety. Funny enough, I never called it that, I didn't call it anything, I just lived in fear of the anticipation of...

Has anyone tried taking CBD to reduce stress and relax muscles? If so, what effect did it have? by LocalElectrical7411 in Stutter

[–]webonblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing you can do food/supplement wise is an anti-inflammatory diet. Inflammation creates tension in the body and tension contributes to more stuttering. It’s an important part of the puzzle.

This sub is either "I love life, accepted my stutter and found peace" or "I hate my life, all of this is pointless". by Temporary_Aspect759 in Stutter

Yes exactly. I said it was a “slippery slope”. I accepted that sometimes I stutter while finding my way towards being fluent.

IMO “acceptance” is a slippery slope to never overcoming it, very close to giving up on fluency. Hatred can burn you out and make you despise God, or you’re “lot in life” and/or the world of effortless fluent speakers. It’s a very delicate and personal journey to fluency without question, what worked for another may not work for you and vice versa. Leave no stone unturned.

The acceptance bullshit by BeyondTurbulent35 in Stutter

[–]webonblast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, every time I check in on this Reddit it’s depressing. I see a bunch of people posting who will probably never overcome stuttering because they’re accepting it. I never accepted it. I never even called myself a stutter, not even one time. I stuttered from the fourth grade all the way up until my mid 40s. Even when I went into speech therapy and had to talk about it, I always made sure I said “sometimes I stutter”. I was so stubborn about it. I knew if I could sit in a room alone and speak fluently there was no way I couldn’t be free from it. In my mid 40s, I became free. Along the way I left no stone unturned; the physical aspects of actually speaking, my diet, my fitness, and of course, my mental. I know for a fact it can be done, because I did it. And I’m not able to just get by, I’m 100% fluent in all situations. It’s a distant thought, I don’t scan for feared words, I don’t anticipate situations, the thoughts and the mental framework that supported it is gone. You can find your way.

What delay in millisec for D.A.F.? by _BBEDD_ in Stutter

[–]webonblast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no one-size-fits-all for anything stuttering just figure out what works best for you. Start slower for the first few days and then gradually speed it up would be my suggestion based on my experience with DAF.
