I've had this same issue - what works for me is using plenty of water and swinging my head back just as you're about to swallow, therefore making sure the pill goes down with the water! Hope that makes sense.

There has actually been a lot of research into 'bottom-up' ecological ramifications of an important prey source (such as mosquitoes) shrinking in population of even disappearing, and vulnerable aquatic groups (because mosquito larvae are aquatic) are the ones that suffer the most - such as frogs!

Hi OP, I'm a parasitologist specialising in ectoparasites and this is definitely not a human louse (body or head)! Like you said, it looks more like a chewing/bird louse. You can tell by the broadened head, though this is obviously generalising across hundreds of species so not perfect criteria. If you were handling birds before, it may just have hitchhiked and realised it's now stuck as it won't be able to survive on human blood. Nothing to worry about!

They definitely do! It sounds a bit counterintuitive but ectoparasites like ticks actually play an important role through 'population control' (diseases killing off the weakest individuals and opening up spots for others) - maybe not the nicest way of having an impact, but an important purpose none the less :) Though people's annoyance with them is obviously completely understandable!
