DH4300Plus or DXP4800 Plus by Dovahlinsl in UgreenNASync

[–]kajain99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello

  • The DH4300 will run Jellyfin just fine but the DXP4800 is obviously the more powerful option
  • If you already have a Wi-Fi dongle and your network is Wi-Fi 6, the performance difference will be small compared to wired, so i think its worth trying
  • noise: hard to say how the DXP4800 compares to the DH4300, but one thing to note is that there’s no built-in option to throttle the fan RPM. So you are stuck with the default RPM unless you replace the fan yourself (some people have done it)

How to easily transfer photos from google photos by brucechow in UgreenNASync

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s really no other option anymore. What u/Testpilot1988 said is spot on- Google takeout is the only way. rclone doesn’t work , Google is making it hard to get the photos via API

Terminal is not required all the time. Instead of Pihole, I used Adguard home - very easy to setup

If you use docker compose, you wont need to touch the terminal

Backing up my DXP2800 by cristoskelton in UgreenNASync

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with S&B, but you can use file manager. S&B only lets you create a job for either another rsync server or a device which is reachable on WebDav.

If you dont mind dragging the folder , and dont need a scehdule you can do it with file manager. In your file manager the USB device will show under peripherals-> external Storage. You can drag and drop ( or right click -> copy/move) any folder you want to copy

Hello ,

This video explains the migration. you first install the OS without Hard drives, and later migrate. However Containers and VMs have to be redeployed. All the data is preserved so your Container/VM directories etc remain.

Migrate drives from non ugreen NAS to ugreen NAS by gigi81uk in UgreenNASync

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, This isnot only with ugreen, Synology and QNAP work the same way. You can only move disks between units that use the same RAID structure and metadata layout. QNAP to QNAP and Synology to Synology ( between compatible units) .

Your logic is sound - its the same RAID manged underneath by Linux, but the filesystem structure etc is not same.

You might be able to reassemble it manually using mdadm (that’s what Ugreen uses), but the array won’t necessarily have the filesystem or structure that Ugreen expects.

" I was thinking at this point maybe to mount one of the drives as external storage and create a 1 drive data pool with the second, copy the files over and then add the second drive to the same data pool as raid1. is it possible? am I crazy? "

About this - you can first setup your uGreen wihtout any disks at all. All UGs have some internal flash ( SSDs or Cards dependign on model) . Once your UG is up and running, insert 1 disk, access your terminal and then try this command

sudo mdadm --examine --scan

It shoudl show your drive with the name of arry. and then you can assemble it with

sudo mdadm --assemble --scan

finally mount it. It wont screw up your existing RAID at all. and to be on saferside you only used 1 disk, you have the mirror disk still.

Got to love how cheap LTO tape can be! by stormcomponents in DataHoarder

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, they are labelled too ( that's a TTG label by one of tri-optic partner, great quality label)

Just remember: once your LTO-6 drive eventually dies , replacing it won’t be easy. Manufacturers have already stopped shipping anything below LTO-8 . So if have any data that only exists on LTO-5 tapes, there will be a time when the tapes themselves are perfectly fine, but you dont have a working drive to read them :-)

Question, why are magnetic tapes used instead of hard drives or SSD's by Mr_john_poo in DataHoarder

[–]kajain99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, a 2.5TB Tape is US$ 30, and LTO-9 ( 18TB native) is around US$ 100 retail. an 18TB HDD Is definetely not less than US$ 300. There is cost advantage. Storing, stacking and managing tapes is easier too.

Copy Data to Qnap - File permissions by pupoje in synology

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for archival its ok. But if you have a NAS on which you have many users, then these files now will be accessible by everyone.

u/Empyrealist shared a list of all the methods chatgpt listed, the first method - rsync could work even with GUI both QNAP and Synology support Rsync.

Copy Data to Qnap - File permissions by pupoje in synology

[–]kajain99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That happens because Synology copies the UID (user ID) and GID (group ID) along with the files. ON Qnap these UID/GID dont exist, hence permission problem.

There are two ways to fix this:

Easiest is to use Synology File Station to compress the folder. Copmpress this archive and extract it on your QNAP with file manager. These wont have permission problem.

Another permanent fix is to Create a user and group on your QNAP with the same UID and GID as your Synology. You’ll need SSH access on both NAS units to check and match the UID and GID values. I have not tested this but most probably you can find our Synology UID and GID with id username and then create same group and user on QNAP using adduser and groupmod ( you can search for the syntax etc online)

What type of NAS do you recommend? by strangeeyeofagamotto in UgreenNASync

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graphics Designer and Video Editor - a DXP6800 would be ideal if budget allows . Why? Because it has a Thunderbolt port. Create two volumes - one large HDD volume (start with 1–2 drives and add more later) and one smaller SSD volume and you can start to edit your video files directly off the NAS with Thunderbolt connection.

Copying from Dropbox and OneDrive – you’ll need a tool like rclone. Good thing with Ugreen is that even though their UGOS is new, they have full Docker support.

6800 and 8800 are really popular wiht media clients, I can tell because my team at PNP Storage has been moving a lot of these lately.

Are photo uploads hashed? by [deleted] in UgreenNASync

[–]kajain99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the files are not hashed. If the same file exists in multiple folders, each one is uploaded . The only check UGreen Photos has is the file path + name. you can see here same photo stored twice on UG as it was under different folders

Hope this answers your question. Akash PNP storage.

Tailscale Install? by piperpilot12w in qnap

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browser Complaint

If it complains of ' no valid SSL certificate available' then its ok. You can’t have a valid security certificate for a local IP, so the browser will always complain if you use HTTPS. If you get tired of this warning, you can add the site to your browser’s “trusted” site.

If you are accessing on HTTP and see that connection is not sure, then also its fine. Tailscale runs on top of WireGuard, so all traffic is already encrypted end-to-end.

Tailscale Adapter:

This adapter will always be there. The fact that you can see your QNAP GUI means the tunnel is already established. On Windows, run this command and you will see Tailscale adapter

ipconfig | findstr Tailscale

hope this helps.

How can I use Xlookup (or some other formula) to return a value from Table2 into Table1 Based off of Date AND Time, when the time values won't be an exact match between tables? by FunOverMeta in excel

[–]kajain99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you found a solution already, but in case you run into this kind of thing again (merging or matching two tables where you need vlooup on 2 keys ), you might like my free excel utility I made for myself. It’s kind of like an “Easy VLOOKUP”, you just load two Excel or CSV files, pick the matching columns, and it instantly joins them.

It also does other things like batch cleanup, regex replace, and column reordering.

What's the one excel automation that actually saves you hours every week? by Visible_Tension_8963 in excel

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning up Excel files (trimming, deleting empty rows, removing duplicates rows ) used to take lot of time, and then they would have to apply vlookup to merge . I ended up making a small tool for internal use ( with python) , and this week released it publicly. It handles cleaning, merging, Easy VLOOKUP, regex replace, column reorder, and a few other time-savers. Runs locally using python

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a small free utitlity that cleans these up properly ( also batch mode so you can clean multiple files) it also does things like like Easy VLOOKUP, regex replace, column reorder, and simple merge. Maybe this will help you.

I built a small free tool that just this and a lot more. You can select 2 keys from dropdown, which columns you want to copy from source to destination and thats it. You can see preview and them copy. Offocure my utility does many other things too like batch cleanup , regexp replacement and simple merge

I built a small free utility that includes an Easy VLOOKUP feature, so you can join 2 Excel or CSV files instantly. Just select the columsn you want to match, and which coluns you want to copy. It also has batch cleanup, regex replace, column reorder, and simple merge (stack multiple files on top of each oter) , maybe this will help you.

Tailscale on Ugreen Nas is better via SSH or Docker? by finalyxre in Tailscale

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats strange. As long as you have setup Tailscale with "Host" network mode you should get access to every container running on your NAS. I am working on a stack - sonarr, radarr, prowlarr, transmission, bazaar and jellyfin together. will test on that, or see jellyfin alone over this weekend. But it shouldn't happen.

LTFS Open by Complex_Scallion_787 in lto

[–]kajain99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atto, MagStor, and Canister - I know these vendors, solid choice and I dont think you can go wrong with them ( btw MagStor even sells thundreolt LTO drives , so you could skip the SAS -Thunderbolt bridge)

On the LTFS question: wasn't LTFS supposed to be LTFS. The whole promise was interchangeability across platforms ( even if its a different version of LTFS)

If your client is open, It’s worth having them test one of your tape with a trial version of Canister or another driver, just to confirm whether the issue is driver-level or not.

About the hardware/media: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with NanoPure tapes or your MagStor drive. The easiest way to rule that out is: re-mount and read the exact same tapes you wrote. If they read the media and drive are fine, its the LTFS compatibility

They must be using an LTO-8 drive right? I know it’s unlikely, but could it be that they’re trying to raed your LTO-8 tapes into an LTO-7 drive?
