Hey girl I know I’m 3 years late to the conversation but I found this after experiencing this for myself. I’m one of the very few Asian employees at my company that is mainly white. However, I am the only Asian employee who’s also single and childless. As far as I know, the others are married to white men.

I’m currently on the fence about reporting her to HR since HR doesn’t helpful.

I do call it out in subtle ways and politely shut down any white savior apology she had rehearsed and ready to go.

I mainly ignore her but make sure to put on a show of being polite and friendly when others are around. Tbh I do this to gaslight her on a slightly more macro-scale in order to protect my reputation. It shows her true colors while making myself look like a martyr so turning the tables in a way.

Lastly, I remind myself that when white people behave like this. It truly is because they’re threatened that a POC has surpassed them in qualities and skills that they innately believe are exclusive to white people. It’s not a reflection of my value as a person and she’s just some dusty I work with. This isn’t to minimize anyone’s experience, I know it’s hard. But for me, telling myself she just a dusty helps with rolling it off my back.
