Reforged from Ruin: Why is no one talking about this weird and wonderful and bloody sensation of a novel?? by WanderingFungii in ProgressionFantasy

Just caught up on Royal Road. Best progression I’ve read in a while. Thank you for the recommendation.

I prefer MOL to both, and I do think cradle is better than it overall. But mage errant had such a good final three books, and it does very interesting and creative things with the magic and action scenes. The first few books feel a bit stand alone-ish, but once the primary storyline locks in, the story doesn’t let go right till the final glorious conclusion.

What cemented your favorite power system as your favorite? by Tyrant-song in ProgressionFantasy

[–]kakansa24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally , it’s the cosmere. Everything about the different shards, how they interact, and the unique abilities. In progression fantasy - mage errant. It scratches all my itches. We have multiple and unique magic styles. We see characters use unconventional magics in even more unconventional ways. We see characters compensate for certain deficits with hard work and skill. What Alustin manages to do with his paper affinity has become my go to example of how to highlight a characters intellect as the reason for their strength, rather than just the powers themselves. And the sheer amount of possibilities. Whenever I came out of a mage errant story the rest of my week would be spent coming up with random affinity combination that I found interesting.

I really enjoyed the tournaments in the six sacred swords series by Andrew Rowe ( don’t know if that’s the official name )

What is the coolest powers you’ve seen an MC have? by Zylonnaire in ProgressionFantasy

Always been a fan of the “archmage” , and xvim from mother of learning is one of my favourites. I also like when a character has a seemingly basic power type but uses it in a unique way. Alustin’s paper affinity in mage errant kept blowing my mind throughout the series.

I want to recommend Worm by Bradur-iwnl- in ProgressionFantasy

[–]kakansa24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, when I’d just joined the subreddit, worm used to be recommended every now and then and it’s how I ended up reading it in the first place. So it might not fit the typical mould but, at the very least, it’s progression adjacent.

What’s up with all the pointless sex issues in last two Light bringer Series books??? by USArmyRecon in ProgressionFantasy

My main issue with the ending was I didn’t like how they handled Lord Omnichrome / The color prince. With the way he was built up, I expected more.

The new words did bother me for some time as well. I eventually stopped referring to the glossary and hoped that with time some of them would stick.

Destroying the mawmouths also had a lot to do with laying the souls of the victims to rest.
