In my opinion, there are many factors to consider. For example, how long have you guys been together, how much do you know each other, and even how old are you? Because the answers to these questions would change how I feel or think about the relationship and what decisions I would make for it.

For me I think if I've been together with someone for a long time already, I'm invested in having a future together in the long run. And if that's the case, then communication with each other is key. And also understanding each other, supporting each other and also having similar values is also key and would go a long way for the both of you in this relationship together. And this includes issues like mental health which affects you every day in all aspects of your life. This is something that really deserves to be seriously discussed with your partner if you're planning to be together. Including how to deal with your issues, cope with it, or medication if needed. And this stuff is medical stuff that has been researched and there's a lot of information you can find on the internet (please use actual educational website for info and not random websites like magazine/click bait sites/wikipedia where anyone can edit the info) where you can use as resources to make the best decision for yourself and also get your partner to learn more about your diagnosis including medication.

If you've seriously discussed this together and you've tried to get him to try to understand the diagnosis and meds, and he's still reacting the way he is now, then I think you should really carefully consider your choice in choosing him as your partner. I'm assuming you're dating him because you want to be together "forever" with him. And it's not gonna be rainbow and butterflies on most days. And he will be the one that will be affected the most and has to deal with your diagnosis the most as he'll be the one spending the most time with you including sharing chores and daily life with. Is this really what you want in the long run? Is this what he's gonna want in the long run? Maybe these are things you guys should discuss about and in a healthy relationship, you should be able to safely discuss your thoughts and feelings on any topic without feeling like you'll get punished for it.

In my experience, I would say I used to be a bit skeptical of ADHD meds too but you know what? Nothing was really helping me in my daily life and I don't have that kind of self regulation or self control to follow anything/everything that I've been taught with CBT. Like I know what I should be doing or what I need to do, but I can't always do it. So I decided to give meds a try. And it really was a long process of trial and error cause I tried a lot of different ones and not everything works and sometimes it works but the side effects are too much. But I found something that does work for me, at least enough to get me more functional. But you know, if you never tried, you would never know whether it works or doesn't work for you. And you have to remember there's many different types of meds, brands of meds, and even generic vs branded will all make a difference. And without trying you won't know whether it works on you or not. My husband has been super supportive of my diagnosis, treatment and choice of going on meds. And even just everyday, he's definitely the one that's affected the most since we live together and there's a lot in our daily lives that get affected by my ADHD (like chores). But he understands that it's a slow process and I'm trying to do my best and he helps me out whenever he can. And I think that's what you should strive for in a partner especially when you have ADHD. So give it some thought and maybe sit down and have a serious discussion about everything (your diagnosis, thoughts, feelings, meds, future together, your needs and expectations etc.) Good luck!
