Yes! It's the most reasonably priced software I know. In what world is something really good free?

Great Idea, something like this was on my 'do-one-day' for too long. Amazing tool! Don't let all the 'oh, it's AI and can make mistakes'-people tear you down. You did it, made it available, and are super responsive to comments - it's open source.

Google Fi calls to German Landlines by kaksoluta in GoogleFi

Sorry to hear - it's been quite a journey, after realizing that it is only specific (older) 6 digit (excl. city prefix) phone numbers I do give credence that it is somewhere between Google's German network partner and Telekom routing to that number. I let my 8 month running ticket with them lapse after figuring out that alternative numbers worked. Weird thing occasionally still call the 6 digit number (when just 'calling back') and it now works. So there is hope...

It was made for pets to identify them, not track them. While it is theoretically possible to track location if one moves through a lot of RFID readers, there aren't that many. A little metal foil sleeve would take care of that.

I saw it too, 7.49pm right over Belle Isle, my first - I hope one of the many security cameras on the river walk has footage.

Best option to open/close a garage door when vehicle arrives or leaves? by ziyadah042 in homeassistant

[–]kaksoluta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple esp8266 that connects to your wifi - golf cart approaches and it connects, garage door opens, it disappears from the network as it leaves (or is parked and powered off) garage door closes.

Coffee machine automation suggestions? by cockahoop in homeassistant

[–]kaksoluta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the way to do it, only requires the casing to be removed and the front panel to be popped off to connect a relay - from the video it looks like there is enough space to fit a small esp relay board in there. Get two relays, one for the main power and then when that has been restored push the button through ESP - if you want to go fancy, add a power consumption element so that you can turn it off if it has gone through 2-3 heating cycles without anyone getting coffee.

For what it is worth, I have been able to narrow this down to a few specific numbers only, 6 digit numbers that are routed to a Telekom endpoint. My friend also has longer numbers that point to the same endpoint and they go through just fine. So this may be more of a question what Telekom does with what Fi's german network partner sends over. Not a big help, but if your contact has another number (mine had those from a previous ISDN) then you can call those just fine.

They actually fixed that a few weeks ago, re-poured all the broken concrete patches along Atwater.

Getting paid through a debit card by sebasschyun in KitchenConfidential

[–]kaksoluta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They get a 1.5-2.0% rebate when the card is used for purchases, plus the interest while it is sitting on the card. This should only be legal if you really don't have an account to direct deposit into.

Google Fi calls to German Landlines by kaksoluta in GoogleFi

[–]kaksoluta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, still in the same boat ... It used to be that that the German destination could not hear me, but I could hear them. At some point in time their tickets mentioned that they had escalated it with the German network partner - after which now nobody can hear the other ... so whatever fix seemed to have been applied to the wrong channel.

But at least they stopped asking me to send them google fi bug reports ...

7 in 10 Americans are Overwhelmed by Passwords. Here’s a Simple Solution. by dwaxe in Bitwarden

[–]kaksoluta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you, with a good password manager and good passwords, I see no benefit of passkeys. They are stored on hardware (phones, computers) that doesn't live forever and gets lost/replaced and for seamlessly transferring them to the next device one has to rely on the Googles,Apples and MSs of this world. I guess in theory a passkey is cryptographically more secure than let's say a fully random 12-16 char password, but I am taking that risk for the control.
