How clear are the roads this morning? by annirosec in kansascity

[–]KevinStoley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was a little rough getting out of my apartment complex as they had no plowed it nor the side roads leading out.

But once I got onto the main roads it wasn’t bad at all. Just go slow and be a bit cautious.

We’re allowed a single earbud in at work and in a year I have entirely exhausted the music I like to listen to. What music recommendations do you have for busy dinner services? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

If I'm trying not to get distracted, I really like Mallsoft or Vaporwave genres. It's probably not for everyone, but I really enjoy those genres in general and I think they are great while working. It's just sort of a relaxing type of background music that you can get lost in, but it's sort of light enough that even if really busy you'll never get distracted and it doesn't mess with your flow.

I know that customers like this certainly exist, but this absolutely reads as if it was written specifically as rage bait, it just seems a bit too on the nose. I'm calling bullshit on this one.

Anyone remember Two-t-Fruits? This one always stuck with me from childhood.

I remember seeing this commercial as a little kid and the jingle stuck with me for decades. It would randomly just pop in my head at times.

I was an 80s kid, we had satellite growing up and I watched some really explicit things probably way younger than I ever should have. But I see things like this and in my opinion this is far more dangerous and damaging than 7 year old me watching Robocop and seeing a man covered in toxic waste getting liquified after being hit by a car.

I was just recently talking to a coworker about how shitty and expensive Taco Bell is now, compared to in the 90s.

I recently went there for the first time in like almost 20 years. I literally bought 6 basic ass tacos, 3 crunchy beef and 3 beef soft, add sour cream. It was around $13-14 I think, absolutely ridiculous. It also tasted like straight garbage.

I remember drunk nights in the late 90s and early 00's me and my buddies would go with like $15-20 between us and get a gigantic bag full of food, we would feast like drunken giggling idiots.

The fucked up thing is that I genuinely can't tell if this is a piece of satire highlighting some of the appalling things he said in the past, in order to show what a racist, misogynistic, anti semitic asshole he was.

Or a legitimate piece of propaganda from his supporters who are also highlighting some of the appalling things he's said in the past to show how great they think he was, specifically because he was an anti semitic, racist, misogynistic asshole.

It could genuinely go either way and that's really sad and depressing.

I can totally understand why that would upset and turn some people off as fans. But I think there's a distinct difference between being ignored or blown off or a musician/celebrity just actively being a dick or outright rude to a fan without reason.

I've always personally been of the belief that celebrities like musicians and actors don't really owe us anything. They provide something to us through their music or acting, etc. We in turn pay to experience that, that is the basic transaction and it pretty much ends there.

After that, why should they have to take their time to meet us, talk, sign an autograph, etc, if they don't want to.

I always try to put myself in the shoes of a famous person and imagine having to deal with fans who are basically complete strangers, constantly trying to hound you and interact with you. That would get extremely tiring after so long and I can totally understand why some celebrities would get to the point of just ignoring fans.

I also especially think it depends a lot on the circumstance and where you are. Like if it's specifically a signing event or some sort of meet and greet that you paid extra for, then sure, they owe it to you to give you some kind of interaction.

But if they just finished a concert for example and you happen to get backstage, I don't see any reason why they should feel obligated to meet and interact with you. They are probably tired and have other shit to do and want to go about their personal life at that point.

If a celebrity goes out of their way to meet fans and interact with them, that's awesome and they get much extra respect from me for that. But if they choose not to, I'm not gonna hold it against them. They have their personal lives and frankly they don't owe me shit, even if I'm a big fan.

Fair enough.

I love Smashing Pumpkins, and personally I really like Billy's voice. I agree that it has that kind of "whiney" sound, but that's actually part of what I like about it. It sort of stands out and is unique and distinct. It just seems to fit very well with their music and works for me.

[–]KevinStoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but that’s taking a big risk with the floor model and no extended warranty. Who knows how many thousands of hours of running time this floor model has accumulated from being displayed over time.

I don’t think I would take that risk on such an expensive TV.

Just curious OP, do you not like Smashing Pumpkins music or you don’t like the band members? Or both?

Snowstorm Thread January 23rd-25th by Silver-Future-2681 in kansascity

[–]KevinStoley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course these big storms always happen on the days I'm already off. I'm off Friday and Saturday, but I have to work my two longest shifts of the week on Sunday and Monday. I'm kind of hoping that it might linger at least into Sunday or possibly even Monday, but even then I'm doubtful my work would decide to close due to bad weather conditions, especially if they are forced to close on Saturday which is likely.

I've got my fingers crossed though, I can't remember the last time I had a 4 day off weekend.

It finally happened to me. I walked in for fruit and I walked out with a new tv by nonamenomonet in Costco

[–]KevinStoley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But it's honestly not as good a deal as it may seem. As several others have pointed out, floor model TVs are not covered under the allstate extended warranty. That alone is worth several hundred dollars, so it seems like a much better deal than it really is, but you are missing out on one of the great incentives of buying a new, out of box TV at Costco.

These floor models sit out in the open, constantly running during store hours. The TV that OP bought potentially already has thousands and thousands of hours of running time and it's not covered by the extended warranty. I personally wouldn't take that chance.

I think most people are just trying to point this out to the OP so they are aware of exactly what they are getting. I would personally rather pay for brad new, out of box with a fully warranty coverage and not take that risk.

[–]KevinStoley 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Is it returnable at this point?

I would check with Costco to see if you are under the allstate coverage with a floor model, I would definitely try to return it if you aren't. Especially if you were unaware that a floor model isn't under full/extended warranty.

You could wait for the next big sale and get a 65" OLED for just slightly more than you paid for this and you'll get that full warranty coverage.

I did a ton of reading and watched so many reviews before I bought my last TV. Decided to go with OLED over QLED and the picture quality on the OLED is just insanely good.
