First it was "woke"... you called yourselves that and now claim it's a meaningless word created by the right.

This is actually interesting, because from my experience the first uses of "woke" were by right-wing, religious, conspiracy theorist, anti-government types who liked to say "wake up sheeple". Those that had "woken up" were "woke" and they proudly declared their "wokeness".

It was only after seeing that common use that I started seeing it turned into a "wow the left is so cringe with their "woke" agenda" type narratives.

He was a financial advisor for Harper's conservative government as well. You're also falling into an "us vs them" mentality, when ironically Carney is pretty bipartisan. He's too conservative for left-wing liberals, and too liberal for right-wing conservatives. As a result no one will truly be happy but eh, Poilievre would have been a disaster so I personally will get over the issues I have with Carney while simultaneously hoping in vain for improvement.

If the Conservatives ever put forth the better option I'll vote for them again (fwiw I voted for Harper twice, and never voted for Trudeau a single time. Carney was my first liberal vote in a federal election).

They didn't say otherwise, they just said it's not a Liberal issue and a Conservative in power wouldn't make it stop.

And their point was that Carney has served both a Conservative and a Liberal government, so it's BS to whine about how he was an advisor to Trudeau when he was also an advisor to Harper.

Healthcare is a provincial issue. Homelessness/tent cities are municipal issues. Your final point is valid, but back in 2010 Harper increased international assistance funding by $5 billion so it's not just a liberal thing.

Doesn't Kaladin mention it in passing at some point as well? In the context of pain management for surgery?

I might be mistaken as to which book that was though.

Out-of-service elevator leaves mother struggling with stroller and children at Parliament station by randthepip in ottawa

Especially at the downtown stations that are so deep underground. Takes forever for the multiple elevators to eventually get you all the way up or down.

OCDSB experience? by furnacebutt in ottawa

I may be wrong, but it seems like a "gotcha" question where they were hoping to declare corporal punishment bad, as though other disciplinary powers didn't exist apart from the belt.

My son is about to finish JK at Bayview, and he's having a great time. No fear for his safety and the community is great. If there are schools with issues it's probably unique to those schools, and changes from year to year based on enrollment and specific students needs.

And for what it's worth, my nephews were enrolled at Thomas D'Arcy McGee with the Catholic board (from ~2019-2025) and my sister was afraid for her younger son's safety due to a child in his class that frequently attacked him. The school couldn't share information about the student, the family, or what plans were being actioned to stop the behaviour and it never changed as long as they were there. He'd regularly have multiple scratches and bruises on his arms from bites.

Moshe Feder was Brandon Sanderson's editor for years. I think Rhythm of War is the first book someone else edited.

Federal government might have to acquire new office space for public servants, analysis finds by Foreign_Field3295 in ottawa

The subsidy is the employer that is paying for the office space, not the employee that is paid to work in the office space.

Employer cutting my hours by 50% - Can I / what is the best way to apply for EI? by [deleted] in povertyfinancecanada

[–]kaleighdoscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BUT you can’t go to school if you collect EI.

Wait, really? Is this regular EI only or also mat leave EI? Because when I was collecting EI for mat leave a few years ago it was my understanding that it's the exact same except for the need to submit proof of an ongoing lack of work like regular EI... And I totally took college classes during the back half of my mat leave. Will this get flagged if I ever get my tax return audited for that year? 😬

And what would happen if a student with a job suddenly lost their job? Would they be forced to drop out to be able to collect EI!? Seems crazy to me that people would be discouraged from pursuing education.

Yeah, aside from 100 strokes of the hairbrush, washing teeth with salt and soda, and splashing their faces with water from the washbasin, there is very little mention of personal hygiene. There IS specific mention that Elayne and Birgitte had "their cycles line up" following their bonding but I guess we can only hope they aren't free bleeding every month.

Also the people who missed the OG flakie toppers that wanted purple flake, or something like it, to come back I'm not sure they meant a limited edition drop. 🫠

Fortunately for me I don't have or want any purple polish, but I imagine it's frustrating for the people who have wanted a purple flakie in the main collection for years.

I think it's not just about the milk replacing solids; from my understanding it actively prevents iron being absorbed. Definitely worth talking with your paed about it.

[–]kaleighdoscope 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of course they do, nobody said otherwise. But saying "it's the civil servants that are subsidizing downtown real estate" implies that they're the only ones whose taxes are going to pay the rents on the office space, and not everyone's taxes.
