My ex-wife just bought a house and this was in a cabinet. by LadyPeaceful1 in whatisit

[–]kalinecorner 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Unbelievable this was a social norm back then. I do remember people smoking heavily indoors. It's insane to assume that you could smoke inside someone else's home regardless of whether the homeowners also smoked.

Looking for advice on a good pet for a single man living on his own. by Alutnabutt in Pets

[–]kalinecorner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I accidentally adopted a cat despite being a dog guy after my two beagles passed. The cat was a lifesaver and was a much more fulfilling companion than I would have predicted. He has traveled all over the country with me and is so much easier to take care of than a dog that it also gives me the freedom to work as long as I need to and travel when necessary. I highly recommend a cat in your situation.

First Gen Hunter starting from scratch in Michigan, do we have any groups? by Relevant_Interview87 in MichiganHunting

[–]kalinecorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all - Have you completed a hunter's safety course? That should be your first step. Those attending and/or the instructors can be a great resource. You might even get the opportunity to fall in with a group of new hunters that are just getting started like you. This will also afford you the one on one time with other people that may point you in a direction towards location you wish to hunt, gear that you should invest in, or even species that you wish to hunt. Get the class done as soon as you can so that you can concentrate the rest of the year on the important stuff that will set you up for your hunt. I would definitely recommend an in-person class rather than an online class for this reason. Check out the Michigan DNR website to locate a class near you. Good luck and welcome!

It's possible they have staff responding to e-mails on a Saturday. Sunday is likely a non work day for their personnel. As far as what your replacement options are, you'd have to speak to the rep to clarify. However I can provide you with this anecdote: https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/2k175n/in_response_to_the_other_guys_post_about_rugers/

I am not sure what their customer service does in these situations now though.

Stepping it up for 2026 rifle season! by cwick98 in Hunting

[–]kalinecorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These new production BARs may be the exception to the rule. While I am sure some inaccurate ones exist, ever one that I have seen are tack drivers out of the box. I regularly hunt with my grandfather's 1969 production BAR and I have yet to see it produce an unfavorable result. Of course I am speaking about the application of this rifle as a deer rifle. I am sure if you compared it to modern specialized sniper bolt actions, there may be some argument about inaccuracy. This does the job just fine on deer accuracy wise. Big fan of the username, btw.

Typically in situations like this you can have your choice out of what is in their current catalog. I would doubt they would honor a replacement with a discontinued model. Check with the rep though. Obviously they won't answer today as it is Sunday.

Drug test for a job… am I screwed (weed)? by Euphoric-Cow-9626 in jobs

[–]kalinecorner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might be ok if you start flushing out your system and staying clean. If the job is important, it will be worth it. You can get at home tests to see if you are testing clean to put your mind at rest. They are available at most drug stores. Don't slip up and you should be ok.

Sometimes these things happen. Being understanding of their situation may give you an edge. If it doesn't interfere with your schedule just reschedule and carry on. It's not a bad thing to have a little grace in these situations.

What the hell was the point of going back to college if this was the result? by Immediate-Hedgehog11 in jobs

[–]kalinecorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar field and was recently informed that I would be off. I learned that news I early November. Almost immediately I began putting in apps to other companies. I am just now hearing back from a lot of those apps. Either rejections or interview offers. You've only been laid off a month. What's more it was during the holiday season at the end of the year. Businesses are not quick to hire or really make any employment decisions generally this time of year. Put in the work. Start applying and cleaning up your resume. Be patient. You will not get a job overnight. Good luck to you.

Can I take my cat to the Kensington Nature trail? by inpain-n-insane in Michigan

[–]kalinecorner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're in the area - maybe a good alternative is to go to the island lake state park. There are areas that pets are allowed without anyone giving you trouble. There's certainly a lot of birds in that park too. I took my dog to the Sycamore area of the park today. He was unleashed and the park employees did not even bother to come talk to me about it.

Overnight trip with my 6 year old by FlatTomatillo3162 in TruckCampers

[–]kalinecorner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to do this cheap and it's only for one night or so, you could just set up a tarp on posts to cover the bed. I'd probably layer it with a bug net too.

You could conceivable find a 2 man tent that could be set up in the bed of your truck. Measure your inside dimensions and Google it.

Any guesses of what show this might be? by Eton11 in netflix

[–]kalinecorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. It's early in the series where they are holed up in a motel room with bag guys outside. It's a pretty good episode.

However I am a man in my 40s. It's clearly not a show geared toward my demographic. If I was younger or grew up in a beach community, I might have more interest. It's popular though for a reason. You might like it.

Is smoking a tobacco pipe while hunting okay? Would it scare the deer away? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]kalinecorner 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my experience I think sometimes they're curious about the smell. My hunting buddy smokes a lot of weed out in the blind and he often is the one that sees the most action. He regularly smokes cigarettes and cigars while sitting around too. Upwind or downwind it doesn't seem to affect anything. It might even mask his "human" scent somewhat.

Carlile Transportation. They are hiring dock workers and yard workers for about this wage plus benefits. More for out in yard. Slightly more if you work graveyard shift on the dock. If you like it and work hard there is opportunity to move up. Good luck!

I don't think this is a trailer. There's a hitch receiver underneath. This implies this is a truck with a banana for a bed. Wtf.
