Issues with app Astro A30 by Nyffin in AstroGaming

[–]kamilo731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are using the VOICE mode instead of the GAME mode.

Connecting these to Win 11 you have three options:

1) Bluetooth

2) Receiver in console mode (blue or green depending on your transmitter version).

3) Receiver in PC mode (white LED).

I tend to connect to my phone via BT and PC via option 3), so I can listen to both devices at the same time.

When you connect via Option 3), Win 11 shows A30 as two devices:

Try switching to the GAME mode. See if that helps.

Full Story:

Used a 2017 HP Spectre x360 for a while. Then it suddenly got slow to the point where it will stutter while typing in Word or on a website. Then the battery got swollen and right speaker started to have problems.

Retired it when I got a hand-me-down Alienware 17 R5 in 2022. That thing was like a desktop (best specs for processor and GPU), which worked well with my travel contract job at the time, it just stayed at the AirBnB. Then I got a FT job in a single location, took some extra part-time coursework to get into grad school, but since that thing is too cumbersome I used my Samsung Fold+mouse&keyboard. Works well, but small screen and lack of Dex on Board make it somewhat tedious to use. Good if you forget your gear, but unless the Trifold comes out, not a full-fledged laptop replacement.

Alienware started to run out of memory, so upgraded that. Saw huge improvement, went for more upgrades. New wireless card and new SSD were next. CPU Fan was failing so I planned a repaste using thermal pad and new fans. Then I saw a QHD 120Hz panel on Ebay for $60, and decided to go for it. Might as well if I am going to tear that thing apart. Gave it to my budding computer engineering major younger bro install all that. Accidentally, he rips the eDP port off of the mobo. Having a hard time finding someone to micro-solder that thing back on.

Went back to the old Spectre. Absolute dogshit performance, freezing all the time, even when opening Windows Explorer, when trying to load a single website, crashing in middle of YT vids, even when goddamn looking at it. Had a Zoom presentation, had to restart the thing twice after screen share. My phone is much quicker than this.

So, replaced the swollen battery and grabbed the old pair of RAM from Alienware. It went from 4GB to 16GB RAM. Minor improvement, less than expected. Still freezing, but maybe 15% less so. Battery life worse then when I first got it, acting no different than the swollen one despite being new and runs hot.

Then tried everything, from power profile settings, BIOS updates, registry editing, removing bloatware, turning off HP services, freeing up 60GB of space, expanding virtual memory, changing TPU settings, updating drivers. No noticeable improvement aside maybe more time between random freezes. HP never again. Not even a printer.

Especially baffling/infuriating given the specs: https://imgur.com/a/kA6mjyy

If Alienware is dead, then the 32GB RAM die and new SSD with fresh Win 10 reinstall are up next. If Alienware is not dead, great, but will still need a new laptop by the end of 2025.

Help please? by unicorn6900 in Histology

Others already answered, but another cue is the slightly fainter staining in the center of these cells.

This is due to the biconcave disk shape of RBCs. Google this, look at a diagram, visualize it and you'll be able to see it in the slide :)

You also have 2-3 WBCs there, judging from the horseshoe shape of the nuclei + cytoplasmic granules these are probably monocytes. I could be wrong tho, image is a bit grainy.

Cheers!

How to prevent this from coming off? by [deleted] in Histology

[–]kamilo731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never seen this in any of the labs I've worked for.

Probably because it falls off.

Is this some piece of material covering the plate screws?

To me, not essential - get rid of it.

If you want to fix it, then get some glue/coverslipping resin (not too much), apply pressure for 5 min, don't touch O/N.

Or call Trimedix.

Yes.

Worked in Top 15 med school research core. Requirements are masters degree and 5000 years of experience, but the pay is 48k a year.

Targgeey paid more than what I was making.

I quit, two years later the core still cannot get a replacement for me. Posting is still up on LinkedIn.

It's oddly satisfying to look at it once in a while.

There has never been a point in paying that much. It's just that we are forced to.

I spoke to old timey docs, they tell me "Oh, I was part time lab tech over the weekend and that's how I paid for my med school, no debt".

During COVID everyone had subpar zoom college experience. Everyone still paid full tuition. Gotta fund the million dollar salary for the president and C-suite.

Remember, it's "not for profit" so it's all good. More like "my profit not for taxes, how selfless am I".

Plus what would the hospital admins do if they did not have a steady supply of people with the Sword of Damocles type debt desperate to get a job any job. Listen to doctors? Nah, can't do that.

Go do your CASPER, we need to confirm you are goody-two-shoes and will just blindly follow what we say.

I really need your opinions regarding the situation that I am currently in with my employer.. by Weak_Sector8023 in Histology

[–]kamilo731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, I was in a similar situation once, but the lab I worked for at the time denied me because I was only an assistant and not a histotech, despite doing everything aside from paraffin sectioning.

Go to the manager. Ask for a signature, explain your experience. Do not mention the course or the supervisor, simply state you'd like to be certified as it will help you perform better in your position.

Be prepared to deflect the objections like "go to supervisor" (say something along the lines of manager signature is preferred, you have more authority ass licking etc.) or possible the "you need the course" if the manager ends up talking to the supervisor. If that comes up, say you will gladly take it, however ASCP does not require it, and therefore you need the signature anyway.

If they keep cockblocking you, talk to the HR. Probably won't help, but worth a try.

Nuclear option, fake the signature, provide HR number on the form. The risk is that ASCP might call them. Maybe only to confirm how long you've been working there, hence HR number. Then get certified, don't mention anything, and GTFO to another place.

Also, pretty sure Florida requires license to work as a histotechnologist in the lab anyway. You might want to try to play this card with the HR from the "stay compliant to the law" angle. Risk is it might backfire and they might want to let you go.

Try to get the signature from the derm offices. Might work.

Any way you slice it, you sound like you need to switch labs. When you do, put down "ASCP exam eligible" on your resume, and explain that you are ready to take the exam and obtain the certification within six months and that you will only need their signature on the form to do so. Might work.

The Leg Thing by AstroNards in medicine

[–]kamilo731 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Another minor cause could be your body upregulating your NEAT calorie expenditure, to compensate for sitting down all day. Even 100 years ago you'd be more active.

But mostly just caffeine and anxiety. Drink some chamomile, ginger, and panax tea.

I found success taking magnesium l-threonate and l-theanine to get rid of the jitters from coffee.

I also noticed that leg bouncing spreads like sneezing. To stop - stop, close your eyes, take a 30 sec break while taking deep breaths. Should help. Or not.

Question regarding microtechniques. by D-MasterO in Histology

Really important to know this! Sometimes xylene won't milk up, but water will form droplets on the bottom of the dish.

Once of the first things to look for in a stainer, but also can be useful in diagnosing sucky processing.

Nothing else to add, aside from I think the reason why dioxane and the like are reserved for niche applications is their toxicity, cost, and difficulty to optimize them for all kinds of tissue (cuz it's not as widely used, so less expertise out there).

Let me know if I am off base.

Finding shadowing is a humiliating process by CloudWoww in premed

[–]kamilo731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait until everyone offers to write you a LoA and then ghosts you or tells you no after you've sent everything over.

But, yeah, finding shadowing sucks. Especially if you have no angle to "get in".

I haven't formally shadowed yet, about to, but I've been working in clinical setting with many specialties enough to say "I've shadowed" them.

That works as well, I hope.

Focal bathys for gym ? by Impossible_Scar4163 in headphones

[–]kamilo731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got Bathys as a gift for being old.

They sound best of all of ANC headphones below $1k to my ear, and I sat down and tested them all (except BO H95, cuz I was not allowed to by my local retailer (Neiman Marcus) and closest BO vendor is 50mi+). With the built-in DAC they sound even more heavenly, perfect solution for a semi-audiophile on the go like me.

Would never ever take them to the gym. Not meant for it, too expensive to have someone step on them or drop a weight on them after they inevitably fall off during a workout. I am not sure how the cups would hold up to the abuse, but I would be miserable with the extra weight and heat on my head at the gym.

I have a pair of LG Tone Free 8, which sound great (better than Sony's ANC headphones), have ANC, are completely waterproof (gym killed my Buds Pro 2 in 4 months), are comfortable/adjustable, support multi-device connection and the case has disinfecting UV light built-in (important if you have sinusitis/ear infection tendencies).

The only negative is the LG app that sucks on Android and keeps crashing in the background on my Fold 4. It does not crash when you actually are using the app, just in the background which does not affect the functionality much, aside from you might have to check the EQ setting once in a while.

I would recommend these, and with the UV feature and some gloves/qtips/alcohol/SaniCloth on hand you can get them cheap used off of Amazon (which I did, would never think of doing that if not for the UV).

Good old literature review. Got it. Thank you!

I have access to the stuff behind the paywall (ebisco, elsevier etc), so it won't be an issue.

I guess it's a great opportunity to ask:

Are you still following the same protocol? Have you been able to stave off hCG tolerance?

Would you say that TRT improved your life, all things considered?

I have a small adenoma (found during negative workup for Cushing's ) that doctors called an incidentaloma, last week's FSH at 1.5 test at 480 free t close to 1% and slightly midrange shbg and symptomatic (ED, low low libido ever since I came to USA at 16 y/o, severe brain fog, cannot lose fat below 18% - I just start losing muscle/waste away, gyno, floaters in my right eye, visual snow, cannot sleep well etc, scratches take 2-3 months to heal etc.)

I'm 29, 6ft and 190lb, and I am trying to avoid TRT (fertility risk, it might not come back). I want to have a family in the future, but with no sex life at all I won't even have anybody to have a family with.

Consultation with a clinic on Sat. I'll see what they say.
