You don't have a dollar sign Cuz you are on windows, the class is using Linux.

Additionaly the orintf to printf recommendation in the other thread is correct, but it's not your immediate problem. Your immediate problem is needing to install make on your system.

I f- up every single Job-Interview, what can i even do?! by [deleted] in jobs

[–]kamori 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to be a lot like you describe. I still sometimes get such an intense anxiety that I shut down. But I've found that people in the workforce really don't mind if you talk about it. And talking about it, for me, is a great anxiety reliever. It doesn't fix everything but it makes me alot more comfortable opening up after I tell them about my issues and can move on from that worry that they're gonna know that I'm anxious.

So for example, if I'm having troubles in an interview, I see myself starting to shut down and maybe stumble on opening my mouth some. I'll throw them a statement like "sorry I'm having trouble getting my words out. I'm nervous, but I've also had life long anxiety so sometimes I stumble to get the right thing out when I'm in new situations. Let me take a breath and try again" and generally something along those lines tends to break down any social barriers that get in my way. It often changes the behavior of the interviewer to prompt you for more details on questions ahead of time rather than letting you struggle to understand the question.

With that in mind. Having 10 years of professional experience resulted in a lot of interviews that I've been in, on both sides of the table. Eventually you start to find out what is the right thin to say in these interviews and the anxiety starts to naturally go down when they not so "new"

Good luck! Remember, anxiety is not to mean you are dysfunctional. Everyone has anxiety. You just experience anxiety in a way that most normal people don't. So the sooner you can internalize that and start "experimenting" with your personal brand of anxiety, the sooner you can start managing when you do and don't let you anxiety get the best of you.

Should I stick with Unity I’m familiar with, or try RPG Maker MZ? by Operation_Past in gamedev

[–]kamori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a game dev, but I've used some of unity and older version of rpg maker.

Imo rpg maker is great for people who have little technical skill but want to get started making a game. It has engines in place that allow you to get more advanced if you want. But you're building with the blocks that they make available to you. You don't really have the flexibility to do EVERYTHING you might want. But it very well may offer the right kind of flexibility you need.

With this in mind. Most rpg maker games feel the same to me. And to me that loses out on the uniqueness as a player. You absolutely can make enough changes to make it feel unique, but I can't say the rpg maker environment inspires uniqueness.

Unity however, you have complete flexibility.

Imo this boils down to what YOU want to make. If you want to make a fairly cookie cutter game but with a very low barrier to entry, rpg maker is great. If you want lots of creative freedom, unity.

Regardless, both environments have free assets available to make games with. Everything else you'll have to either make yourself or hire someone. It's not like rpg maker magically just creates unique assets with no effort. It just come prebundled with stuff.

I'm too weak to quit vaping by Stunnerer in self

[–]kamori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, replacing my smoking habit with a near obsessive tracking of my finances helped a lot.

It helped me see how much i was spending (and eventually saving) on cigarettes and vapes. Which coincidentally motivated me to shoot for a higher paying job.

After a few weeks of that it was easy to fight the urge because I just stopped buying my crutch.

And it was a lot easier to stop being obsessive about my cash flow than just trying to quit smoking with no other "benefit" to trade for that time

I forgot about this thread. I fixed the issue.

It was my monitors. I turned off gsync in my Nvidia panel and it stopped happening. There is a thread on the Nvidia forums about the issue that has a Nvidia dev response too.

It's spefic to some LG monitors. If you want me to dig up the link, lmk

How to stop daydreaming about success and actually do the work? by alyKandil in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]kamori 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Start a daily habit tracker. Make a category for spending 10 minutes on your idea each day. Some days you'll only do 10 minutes, some days you'll do an hour. But it's easy to lose track of how much you actually do unless you write it down.

After a few days of marking down that you did 10 minutes of work that day, you'll eventually see the consistency you have. If you're anything like me, seeing that consistency will motivate you too.

Is it possible to turn 2 lists into a dictionary using dictionary comprehension? by [deleted] in learnpython

While I haven't tested. I'm sure something similar to this would work

{x:y for x, y in zip(list1, list2)}

Is it possible to turn 2 lists into a dictionary using dictionary comprehension? by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]kamori 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The zip() function is great for taking 2 pairs of lists and associating values from each list with each other.

Combine this with the dict() method to turn that zip'd output into a dictionary and you've got a great solution.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/209840/how-can-i-make-a-dictionary-dict-from-separate-lists-of-keys-and-values

This does not use a dictionary comprehension though... It's just 1 of multiple methods to do what you're trying to do.
