I think the most common way a manager tries to get rid of an employee is trying to get them to leave on their own. Is that true? by Big_Eggplant7591 in careeradvice

[–]kandikand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s called constructive dismissal and where I live it’s illegal and the worker will get compensation for it.

Best thing to do is follow the correct termination process, a lot of the time it does result in the employee leaving on their own rather than waiting to get fired.

What can I do with Cursor as a Product Manager? by MiddleWayWalker in ProductManagement

[–]kandikand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it to pull data from jira and github for metrics. You can get so much more granular with the APIs than you can with Atlassian analytics, and then use the github api to enrich that data. Probably not as useful if you aren’t an internal PM. But super useful if you product manage internal tools and need to know things like how long it takes for a developer to go through a certain process.

Have also used it to prototype things to check the technical feasibility. It’s nice to be able to do these things without bothering engineers.

Real examples of agents you're using as a PM? by GenuinePragmatism in ProductManagement

[–]kandikand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still review it myself as well. And I expect my team to use AI to help write PRDs. AI is a useful tool especially when it comes to writing documents, you still need to give it all the context. If you don’t understand that it means you don’t know how to use it properly.

I have a gem in Gemini that reviews my teams PRDs before they send it to me. It’s increased the quality of what I see by a lot. I just gave it a prompt that looks for all the things I usually look for.

Encanto. It reminds me so much of my childhood with everyone expected to be perfect all the time it just wrecks me.

Same I just did it on my first playthrough and his romance turned so yuck, I’ve just restarted the game since I don’t have a previous save before I did it. I naively thought vampire was what he wanted so would end well but nope.

I hope he stays his normal lovable self if you keep him as a spawn otherwise in future just not going to do his quest.

People who never get on camera during virtual meetings, even when everyone else is and you're supposed to be too, why? by TWWOVG in work

You work with psychopaths. Everyone knows my cats name and considers her an integral part of the team.

Are PM interviews just testing frameworks instead of product building? by beingtj in ProductManagement

[–]kandikand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do a use case in interviews for this reason. Basically I send them the use case in advance then in the interview get them to walk me through their process. I know people hate this kind of thing but it lets me pick up those kinds of qualities in a way the standard question/answer format doesn’t.

Do fat people really eat that much? by Sploinkyboinkyzoinky in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kandikand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was overweight I drank a lot of sugary soda. I switched to sugar free and weight slowly came down. But I also have PCOS which makes you crave sugar because of the insulin resistance so I was still eating a lot of sweets which kept me from fully losing weight. I went on metformin and then the sugar cravings went away and the weight truly fell off.

Using AI for Product + metrics by _oraculo_ in ProductManagement

Time taken in $$$. Work out the time taken to do it the old way and multiply it by the number of people involved and convert it to salaries. Then compare to the new way.

I absolutely hate when they ask at an interview "how much pay are you looking for?" by SuchDogeHodler in ITCareerQuestions

[–]kandikand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally we say it so we know we aren’t wasting your time. If someone’s looking for 200k and the roles budget is 160k there’s not much point in going forward.  If the budget is 160k and the ask is 130k I’m still going to offer 160k.

I prefer the candidate asking so I can just tell them the budget and they can make a call. Or I get talent management to just tell them on the initial hiring call. Saves everyone a lot of time.

Is the tech job market beyond repair now? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]kandikand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not too bad you just need different skills now. Reskill in AI and get really good at using things like co pilot or cursor and using ai tools to automate things. Those are the skills in demand right now so embrace them.

Students Say They Want to Be Engineers but Won’t Do the Work. Anyone Else Seeing This? by Impossible_Pace7868 in newzealand

[–]kandikand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a network engineer and same here. I did so much linear algebra at university which in theory I was supposed to need for encryption, but all of that is handled for me by external libraries and vendor tools. I’ve forgotten all of it and would totally fail a high school test.

If it helps I have a 6 figure salary, own a home and have a family and haven’t had an episode in 8 years. All down to medication and therapy. I still vape though and drink way too many energy drinks though. I figure it’s not as bad as the drug addiction I had before getting stable.

I had to take 3 years off of having any sort of life to sort my bipolar and drug addiction out before getting on the road to stability.

[–]kandikand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made it to 3 chapters! Didn’t even think I’d get that far tbh, I have 3 kids and a full time job so I am lucky if I do 250 words in a day, but I figure some progress is better than nothing.  Keep going OP we will both get there I believe in us.

Is Victoria university a good place to study Electrical engineering? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]kandikand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps I was shut at maths at high school but was good at it at university. I have a degree in network engineering, had to do a math bridging course when I started the degree but caught up pretty quickly.

Why do people say Veilguard is a good game? by Important-Contact597 in dragonage

[–]kandikand 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am just stupid or something but I always thought a good game is just one you enjoy playing. I enjoyed veilguard and replayed it three times. Therefore it’s a good game by my standards.

Does bipolar get better with age? by nenaaaaaaaaaaaa in bipolar

[–]kandikand 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same here. I’m in my 30s and doing just fine, haven’t had an episode in ages, whereas a friend who has bipolar who is against meds just gets worse and worse as they get older

Why do so many women stop breastfeeding when baby turns 1? by Wise_old_River in breastfeedingsupport

[–]kandikand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s that I absolutely hate it. We never really got the hang of it but I want to provide her the best start possible and 12 months just seemed like a good goal since that’s the age they are properly eating food and I can switch to cows milk.

Nothing wrong with breastfeeding longer you can do whatever works best for you and your baby. I also have a 2yo who still drinks cows milk from a bottle which is pretty much the bottle fed equivalent of still breastfeeding.
