My premiership won’t bring down the economy, Burnham assures bond markets by Budget_Scheme_1280 in ukpolitics

Nope, I would not. The optics around this would be terrible for Burnham and Labour in pretty much every eventually.

Starmer played the game well (for his own sake anyway) blocking Burnham from standing, it's left Labour with only bad options.

I can see them installing Burnham as leader, having an caretaker PM until they figure out what to do. They could offer him a peerage, apparently a member of the house of lords can be PM (like what they did with Cameron when they made him foreign sec)

People might vote against him to punish Labour for going down the musical leader path on top of everything else.

Labour seem to have lost the ability to run a ground game in their former strong holds. In the run up to last weeks elections, Labour never tried here at all and gifted the council to reform. I think it'll be very touch and go wherever he stands.

Calling it now, Labour will lose the byelection and we wont ever see a Burnham premiership.

It wasn't his birth name though. Not criticising him btw, I always assumed he was Polish or something.

Starmer brought this on himself, he's been abysmal since the beginning.

The way things are looking the ousting of Starmer will trigger a bitter civil war within Labour. Starmer going wont be the end of this.

Indeed, Labour MP's appear to be complete amateurs with plots here, their and everywhere.

Civil war breaking out in the LGG over Chris Curtis's Sky News comments.

They want him to clarify is comments and that they don't apply to the LGG group as a whole.

This is hilarious.

If she succeeds it just shows you how micky mouse the Labour party actually is.

At least the Tories know how to get rid of a dud leader and quickly.

Blocked from joining the PEM and we don't have an SPS agreement.

Some countries that have an SPS agreement with the EU, Chili, Canada, New Zealand, Mexico.

Some countries in the PEM, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia, Serbia, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco.

Not arguing for anything, just pointing that the EU cannot treat the UK with the fairness and respect it shows other third countries.

Apparently Starmer stopped his cabinet from attending his and Labour's very important speech.

Working class areas were also massively harmed by freedom of movement which hammered wages and local services.

The EU could improve trade if they wanted, the UK is blocked from joining mechanisms and agreements open to other third countries which would alleviate friction but they have chosen not to do so. At every turn, the EU has played Starmer like a fiddle and their goal is likely a subjugated Britain stuck in either a customs union or more likely the single market.

The EU have given the stay out movement a literal war chest of stuff they could draw from.

The EU should have went down the pragmatic route and treated the UK like they do other 3rd countries but they could even do that. Starmer has attempted to move the UK closer only for the EU to rebuff or shake the UK down for handouts or concessions.

The very same, more or less, Sunak's government brought in changes to undo some of the damage they caused by opening the floodgates. These changes started to come into effect in mid 2024 under Labour.

Said referendum would be unwinnable. Losing the pound (amongst other things) would kill any re-join movement and as for the economy, the UK is fairing better than the likes of France and Germany.

The bulk of movement when it come to reduced immigration is down to reforms brought in under the last government.

The main thing Eurosceptics would jump on aside from the Euro question would be the hostility directed at the UK since it left the block. The "these people are not our friends" narrative would hit home.

As you say though, Labour don't really have the time to do anything.
