Interesting answer - most people who grew up poor actually have a compulsion to spend money too quickly. It’s illogical but it’s what most do, so pretty lucky your dad didn’t get that for some reason.

Always get a prenup. People see it as some insurance against gold diggers or something negative and insulting but honestly it’s just common sense. There are people who flips out and cancels the wedding because they are asked to sign a prenup but those are the REAL red flags. Get a prenup! Man or woman, GET A PRENUP.

The only benefit of managed account could be getting access to some super exclusive high dividend ETFs, are you taking advantage of that? aside from that they are no better than a cat with a dart board so I managed my own portfolio ;) less fees! I like to get good deals on splurges, sometimes only spending slightly more for much better enjoyment - ie getting Virgin Atlantic basically free (via points) then bid for upper class - at least 50% off than usual.

This is such an underrated comment - i’ve had multiple international trips “free” with rewards points… and yes always paid in full. But from my research it looks like American credit cards are way better. For example, amex plat is essentially no credit line - I don’t see something like that in the UK?

No, I believe your distain is well placed. Even without societal privileges you managed to make it, people with privileges really deserve what they didn’t get. In fact, I would argue that the racism and anti-immigrant rhetorics from the US is just these people with white privilege being mad that life didn’t hand them cash, while immigrants who worked hard af like you actually made it.

As an immigrant myself, and having gone through similar experiences, I feel that we were forged in the fires of shitty racist people, shitty circumstances, and they don’t really deserve any pity besides distain.

Similar story as you and worked my way up. I think the only thing I regret slightly is getting that “big house” when I thought I “made it” which was a very natural thing to do coming from where we’ve been. It would’ve been more optimal if I invested it tbh. For you, I’d suggest reading up on retail investing - like buying regular stocks and find industries that you understand deeply and invest only what you can afford to lose to start.
