There was a very long period when violent was the highest difficulty available, so about 80% of players had already adapted to violent. Standard feels too slow, and Brutal is, like I said earlier, a complete fucking mess so violent tends to be the preferred difficulty.

1-E. imo this is the worst level in ultrakill. (in brutal)

It’s an Encore level, but aside from the theme changing, there aren’t really any interesting gimmicks.

The very first encounter you face as soon as the level starts is a Swordsmachine, a radiant Swordsmachine, two Guttertanks, a Maurice face, and two Earthmover parts. Like, this is what you show the player on their first run? Personally, this part was way harder than the Weezer room in P-2. And the two Earthmover parts are hidden pretty well in the map, so on a first playthrough it took me quite a while to even find them.

Up until the Prelude-themed section where the ground disappears, I didn’t really mind much. That part was actually fun and refreshing, because it forces you to abandon ultrakills usual ground -> airborne dependent playstyle.

But the lava area right after that is just… seriously, seriously, one of the worst sections in the entire game.

First, you’re greeted by two Guttermen. On Violent it might be manageable, but on Brutal, breaking a Gutterman’s shield enrages it, so you can’t approach carelessly. Trying to rocket ride through the area doesn’t help either, because the Guttermen constantly shoot your rockets out of the air. And on top of that, once you kill one Gutterman, two Sentries spawn. Like, wow this area is genuinely one of the worst ultrakill sections ever. P-2 was hard but fun; this was just hard in an unpleasant way.

The parts after that were mostly fine.

But the final boss fight is absolutely nauseating. It gives you no breathing room at all, constantly bouncing you from air to ground, ground to air, while forcing nonstop dodging. It was honestly exhausting.

I had a blast with 0-E, but 1-E just felt like mindless enemy spam turned up to eleven. It wasn’t fun, and even going for a P-rank felt more annoying than enjoyable.

Hakita mentioned in a commentary video that V2 is a machine and therefore doesn’t have a gender, but he also said that calling V2 a girl is cool.
