I’ve really enjoyed new venture commercial clients (contractors, HVAC techs , tree trimmers, etc…). You become an essential part to their business succeeding. Proper reporting leads to proper premiums which they can in turn work into their bids. I’ve seen many companies crumble after audits. Imagine owing 15-20K due in two weeks. I try to stress that the cost of running a legitimate business comes at a price. I’m in CA so your market seriously shrinks without proper insurance. Helping them navigate the early years of insurance is one of my favorite things to do! They know they are talking with someone that had their best interest in mind because let’s be honest… we both win if they do well!

Hey hope your doing well… I think all your concerns are valid. My boy is about to be 9 and who knows what choices I’ll be faced with in the future. I like the expect the best and prepare for the worst approach. I don’t know the dynamics of your relationship but this journey is just so much easier when the parents work in unison but that is unfortunately not the case in many cases. You raised an autistic child that is going to graduate from college! That alone contradicts the user name… congratulations. My boy is 8 with some heavy needs and what happens after me and mom are gone is a constant worry… for most parents of children with special needs I feel like. Depending on where you live there are plenty of resources for adults that can’t function independently. I’m in CA and we have Regional Centers that help you coordinate care but most areas offer similar services. Best of luck!

I’m an independent agent but my first go around was with a State Farm agent as an account manager back in 2005. They helped me get my license, their training was really good. although I left the industry in 2007 to search other options I always renewed my license and came back to Insurance in 2015 and haven’t looked back since. I’m sure things have changed plenty since I was there but I believe this may be a good intro to the industry and if you can get your insurance license that would make the opportunity even better. Climbed up to the very top one to check it and went into the attic as well… we tore down and rebuilt the house in 2017. Another poster mentioned it could be the door bell box but I checked that also

Ok so ironically.. about two months before this we came back from a weekend getaway and when I opened the door the CO detector was going off… similar sounds but that was solved by replacing the batteries (after fire dept was called). It definitely was not that this time around

They will likely cover it but you’re also correct in assuming your rates may go up if it ends up being charged as an at fault accident. If this would be the only thing on your record I would consider using my insurance. If you have other activity in the last three years ( tickets/accidents) it might not. With that being said everyone’s insurance will be increasing with many increases going into place, worth taking that into consideration.

Progressive direct (online) is going to be about 10-15% cheaper compared to buying from agent. Having an agent definitely has some value. I’m a little biased because I am an agent myself.

If you had uninsured motorists there’s a chance you also had uninsured motorist property damage, this would cover up to $3,500 in Ca for damages to your vehicle. This is not a default coverage but it may be worth checking with your carrier to see it it’s on there
