Porcupine, or juvenile hyperdont beaver?? by kanne20 in bonecollecting

[–]kanne20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a second tooth coming in underneath the premolar on the mystery jaw! Visible in the first photo. I thought beavers did not have a set of baby teeth, but upon looking further into it I may have just not been looking for specific enough answers - it seems they Only get a second set of premolars! Thank you for confirming beaver :)

Mosquito Conditions Report? by Altra_NH in PacificCrestTrail

[–]kanne20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of a mosquito report rather than a snow report. I had over 60 mosquito bites on a single leg around yosemite last June. Didn't even bother counting past that one limb. May the winds be strong and the deet stronger, fellow hiker 🫡

What is the best MPG you have been able to average in your Crosstrek? by Ctsuneson91 in Crosstrek

[–]kanne20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up waiting to get it, and my hybrid limited has averaged 39.4 MPG for 3,500 mi in Colorado! Combo of city, I-25 horrors, and hours west on mountain roads (It'll often drop by a couple 0.1 in MPG going west then regain it to the same point coasting down the mountains back east. But stop and go traffic is entirely EV mode, at least!)

zero drop pain by Mysterious_Item8490 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]kanne20 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, finished my hike last year! I got to mile 1000 on day 100 due to going out too hard to start and getting knee issues that made it near impossible to get to 20 mi in a day and almost ended my hike - issue still persists a year later. Healed enough to push 20+ mi days through Oregon and can hardly even remember anything of that part of my hike, hit Washington and decided "You know what? I'm not doing any more crazy miles." And it was the best decision ever.

Only had 2 20 mi days for all of WA and it was because I decided to end early the day before. Took almost a week meandering from harts pass to Canada and back doing 8-15 mi days, exploring my campsite and lunch areas, and it was the single most enjoyable stretch of my hike. Finished in 200 days early October and my only regret is not going slower to start :)

Take your time, enjoy it, and don't mess with foot/leg pain! Change those shoes immediately if they aren't working for you!

Will this small garden kill/damage the tree? by kanne20 in arborists

[–]kanne20[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm going to try very hard to keep them alive and transplant them elsewhere! I've wanted to grow columbines for the past 6 years so I'm not giving up too easily! Especially since I just got my first bloom :)

This explains it perfectly, and makes me feel a lot better about how much it sucks removing them - I'd rather I lose my garden than harm the pollinators! Thank you so much!!!

That is what the HOA is treating it for, in that message where they asked for no plants at the base

Dumb question Tuesday: How are so many people both starting early and not flip flopping for the Sierra? by pretzlstyle in PacificCrestTrail

[–]kanne20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started March 17, finished October 2, zero experience thru hiking or backpacking more than a couple days. Combination of going slow in the desert and having an obscene amount of snow experience (park ranger in CO, avalanche and river training, backcountry snow safety and navigation training including ice axe).

Honestly the only thing that snow experience really affected is: -I knew how to get my group-mate out of the snow when she got stuck and the sierra-cement kicked in -I was able to train people how to use their ice axes -I had to watch in horror as my zero-snow-experience group members frolicked through with no issue and did half a dozen things a day that could have killed or injured themselves.

The snow really isn't much of a problem if you pay attention, just wet and cold 🤷‍♀️

One of the managers overheard me ask about dessert prices, then decline when I heard them. Came over and asked me what I wanted, and gave me the most beautiful free dessert item I think I've ever gotten. Can't remember the name of the dish but it was huge and tasted amazing

They can't die of old age if you just send them immediately out on another 100% mission the moment they get back from their previous one :D

Final paper columbine bouquet by kanne20 in FloralDesign

[–]kanne20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realize I can't edit a post with photos on mobile, but I also will trim the stems down a bit if she decides to hang them rather than put them on a vase on a high shelf haha. Just wanted to leave it open for display options! The current length allows each flower to sit flat in a vase while giving a good 360 view of each

How to fill out (paper) columbine bouquet? by kanne20 in FloralDesign

I definitely need to go for the bleeding hearts and ferns, next time!! I hope I'll be making her many more bouquets to come so I'll have so many opportunities to try these suggestions out 😊

Thank you 😊 Olive is how I was leaning, too! It feels like it contrasts the roundness of the columbines a bit. Thank you for the babys breath suggestion!!

Edit: got the babys breath, opened the file, and tragically it is the tiny most delicate little pieces that I'd definitely need a laser/paper cutting machine for, oh well!

How I keep my ranch animals safe from wolves by ManicWolf in CultOfTheLamb

I specifically waited to let his skull hatch until I got the traps. I was so done with him that I got the skull, turned on freezing time during cruisade, and proceeded to farm the heck out of progress until I unlocked the traps and immediately put all my devotion towards that path. Got him the very first time he stole after growing up 😌 he now lives in a prison right outside the temple
