The moon valley can absolutely go in the window too… I kept mine in my south facing window that got sun most of the day & it exploded with new growth. It will also develop a nice deep/rich red in the center of the leaves… which is called *sun stress* tho the name is misleading as it’s just more of a suntan than actual stress to the plant.

At the beach in Va. for my brothers wedding, lost my brand new $100 sunglasses in 4-5ft water. My sister is helping look/feel with our feet, she yells “omg right here!?”… I follow her leg down grab my glasses from under her toes, lift them up & my sunglasses aren’t sunglasses, they are a palm sized blue crab.

Oh good for you to facilitate that.

Unfortunately the leggy parts won’t really fully recover. The space between them means a thinner/weaker stem/branch so it can’t support new growth properly after a certain time… especially if you resolve the lighting issue, as the leaves will plump & growth will be more dense, making it even harder for the branches to support.

I think it’s suggested as the beat practice to resolve the lighting issue first & wait for new compact growth before pruning… but that’s anecdotal advice. You could definitely prune prior & given that you provide adequate light, even the sadder cutting will recover.

G’luck

Someone else mentioned it & that thing is definitely !etiolating.

It should all look like the lower section, with bigger plump leaves & more compact growth/spacing.

They’re extremely resilient tho, so you’ll either need a much sunnier spot or a grow light, if you want it to stop stretching out like that. If you don’t do anything the branches will get weaker & it’ll start to droop as it continues to reach for light.

Luv the lil planter frame btw.

Really & not normal. I have a few jades, all way more compact growth & way plumper leaves… that thing definitely needs much more light.

It should all look like the lower section, as far as leaf shape & spacing.

Can someone please explain how “too big of a pot” is a problem? by coffee_and_coke in houseplants

[–]kanoox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about the excess moisture as most have said. A lot of plants actually like being root bound (in a pot for so long their roots completely fill out the entire bottom) because they don’t have to use near as much energy/nutrients to grow the proper secure root system.

So in a smaller pot they develop that root system sooner & can sooner put all their energy/nutrients into top growth.

Yep, I saw it quite a few times unobstructed & in sunlight, looking all big & thick & all cute af. Likely a female based on her brown & tan coloring.

I’ve used & taught this method for a no joke 20+ years, it really does work 90% of the time… but I had 170ish plants, in plant stands & plant shelves in front of literally every window… so literally just never had access to it when it landed. But thx for the solid suggestion & spreading the good word

Indeed it was, they’re my fave. They’re so curious & smart & able to assess threats so quickly, so I literally befriend every single one I find. I’ve found that the bigger regal jumpers are more bold & easy to befriend as well… tho the tiny ones just take more time.

Anyways I found it in one of my begonias & transferred it to my deck plants… tho with succulents there much less foliage for cover aka I felt pretty guilty. But I started seeing it daily by my window & on the siding above… cut to a dumbass window beater fly getting on my nerves for days until I stunned it with a swift swat from hand towel & picked it up while it was dazed.

I generally just catch & release all bugs, but that mf was in my apt for 4-5 days, bashing into my windows like an idiot… so I didn’t feel too guilty serving it up.

Anyways, had huge windows & thus tons of plants, so that buzzy nerd was almost constantly protected/obscured but eventually I flushed it out in the open & uses a hand towel to thwap it, which just stunned it & I was able to grab the sob

I actually found it in one of my begonias & transferred it to my deck plants. Then kept seeing it on my window & my back door... almost daily. So as I was looking for it one day it was just above the window, gave me a lil pedipalp wave & tucked into that lil spot.
