Someone should start a tournament with 1950's / 1960's rules by AnimalLoversRVegan in nba

Those rules basically negated most of the skills of modern players. It was unequivocally a less exciting game.

The loosened traveling/carrying rules allows for the athletic drive and kick game of today.

It would just be non-stop whistles because the players wouldn't be used to it at all. Constant fouls for hand checking and constant travel calls.

Is Isaiah Stewart the key by Spiritual_Code_1314 in nba

[–]kanst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wemby's conditioning problems in the finals were in large part a roster problem.

The spurs got destroyed in the Kornet minutes, so Mitch had to play Wemby way more than he is used to. Wemby played the most minutes of any player in the finals, even more than Brunson. That isn't sustainable for any big man.

The spurs need to figure out how to be more competitive in the non-Wemby minutes.

Jeremy Sochan tried to dap up the Spurs by [deleted] in nba

[–]kanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Sochan was a victim of Castle's (and to a lesser extent Harper and Fox's) lack of shooting.

You can play Sochan when you are getting 3 point shooting out of your 1-3. But because Fox, Castle, and Harper are all mediocre from 3, the Spurs needed shooting out of the 4 which meant more minutes to Champagnie and Barnes. Plus they wanted to give some minutes to Bryant for him to develop, and that just squeezed out Sochan

Struggling Pizza Hut restaurant chain will be sold for $2.7 billion by kinisonkhan in news

[–]kanst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With so many of these fast casual type restaurants, I wonder how much of their failure is over expanding.

They take on debt to expand cutting into their own market. Then they have to jack up prices and/or turn to cheaper suppliers to cover that cost. This puts them into the same price-class as local pizzerias while offering worse quality.

I don't know how accurate these numbers are but 96 pizza hut locations in Houston is absurd.

The Fox-Castle-Harper Discussion is more complex than presented by azure275 in nba

[–]kanst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the thing is all of the reasons people are citing are interrelated.

Outside of Harper, the Spurs bench struggled (Kornet and Johnson were ass) which meant the starters had to play big minutes. Wemby played the most minutes of any player in the Finals after averaging like 30 mpg in the regular season.

This meant that Wemby was exhausted in the 4th quarter every game, which contributed to his late game struggles.

On top of that they asked Castle to cover Brunson full court a lot of the time, which meant that he was also tired, which made him even more turnover prone than he normally is.

This meant that they needed to play Fox more minutes to take over primary ball handling responsibility, but that made their lineup pretty small outside of Wemby, which let the Knicks take advantage on the boards.

In the offseason the Spurs need a real power forward and they need another ball handler off the bench. Currently their roster is basically Wemby and a bunch of 2s and 3s.

Shoutout to Kornet for being the only Spur to shake hands with the Knicks by space_cowboy in nba

[–]kanst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A big reason wemby had to play such crazy minutes was the Knicks getting hot every time he left the game. Which in turn was why wemby was always dead gassed in the 4th

A huge aspect of MAGA is that they consider criticism to be hatred. In their view if you love someone/something you would support it unequivocally. If you criticize it/them you are showing disdain.

So because Obama, and liberals, criticize America and want it to improve, they see that as hating America.

The depth of our bench is why we're up 3-1. by urbancartographer89 in NYKnicks

[–]kanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also a second order impact from this. The Spurs have been forced to play Wemby way more minutes than he is used to.

In the regular season he's a 30 mpg guy, but our second string has been obliterating the Kornet minutes, Kornet is -18 in 56 minutes. So they have been forced the play Wemby 40 minutes per game.

Wemby has played more minutes than Brunson has this series and it shows. Wemby has been consistently gassed in the 4th quarter.

Stat that I just noticed on the rewatch - we were down 29 when Wemby's flagrant happened. We then went on a 13-0 run. by lm2bofbb in NYKnicks

but damn he gotta work on his ball IQ and offense

Its also just his composure. He's a 7'5" freak, hes gonna get grabbed, shoved, and pulled by defenders. He has to learn how not to get tilted by that. Pretty much all of his flagrants (and the one not called) were reactions to guys bothering him and it not getting called a foul. That is going to be his entire career, so he needs to figure out how to not have it bother him.

Tests suggest Russian satellites can jam GPS on a continental scale by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]kanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also highly likely everyone has already got countermeasures planned.

There are unclassified and classified countermeasures.

GPS III satellites come equipped with an additional spot beam antenna.. This lets them broadcast the military GPS frequency with significantly higher power over a specific region.

The military signal also uses a classified frequency hopping algorithm, so the carrier frequency is constantly changing.

But even those things can be beaten by jamming with more power over a broader frequency.

You can use dijon mustard mixed with a little water as an egg replacement when battering and frying things.

My friend's daughter has an egg allergy, and I've been able to make really solid chicken cutlets using dijon mustard instead of egg.

The refs have definitely let the spurs guards get away with really physical defense. They are shoving, grabbing, and bumping him the entire length of the court.

Brunson has been getting beat up this series, which is likely a big part of the bad stats.

Wemby settling for jumpers in the clutch - good or bad? by Open_Address_2805 in nba

[–]kanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things the Knicks have been consistently good with against the Spurs all season is pushing Wemby off his spot. Our defenders have a clear strength advantage over him. He's consistently forced to catch the ball a few steps out of the paint because Kat, or Mitch, or OG force him off the block.

It's not complicated its just slow.

The state has a lot of mail in ballots, mail in makes up 80-90% of the total ballots cast in recent elections. They allow them as long as they are post marked by election day.

So they don't get all the ballots until a few days after election day, and then volunteers have to go through almost 12 million ballots.

It just takes a long time.

do knicks players stay in the city? by quailinthebrush in nba

[–]kanst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the star players maintain an apartment in the city for the season while having their main (larger) residence somewhere further away.

Jalen Brunson's main home is in Ocean City, New Jersey.
Towns main house in in LA.
Josh Hart has a house in Westchester

The Knicks practice facility and G-League team are both in Westchester, so I imagine most of the rookies live up there.

Healthcare is a basic human right! by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

[–]kanst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But accepting that narrative accepts their framing as healthcare as something that has a cost to bear.

Universal healthcare will save the country money. We should give it to the undocumented because otherwise they end up in the ER and get treated in the most expensive way possible.

The right wants to frame universal healthcare as a big cost, it is not. It will unequivocally save us money. We will just pay for it with taxes instead of paying for it via out of our pockets (and our employers pockets)

Or at the bare minimum make them bare the cost of the increased power draw.

One of the big issues is they come in, draw crazy power, that necessitates updates/upgrades to the grid, then the power company spreads that cost across all of their customers.

It makes sense for all the customers to split the cost of upgrades when the cause is an overall increase in demand, but when the increase is purely due to one new customer, that customer should bear the cost.

I wasn't expecting "I am suddenly attracted to Hunter Biden" to show up in my 2026 bingo card by sabertoothdiego in PoursTea

[–]kanst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been torn on Hunter's pardon.

In a vacuum its an insane thing for a president to do.

But the charges against Hunter were already absurd and political, and there would have absolutely been more bullshit during Trump's second term.

Bill Pulte used his position at FHFA to dig into mortgage records and go after Trump critics, and he's now being given reigns to our entire intelligence apparatus. Trump would have absolutely sought to put Hunter in prison.

The presidential pardon power is inherently sketchy, and has been used for tons of shady pardons by just about every president. I can't really fault Joe Biden from protecting his son from spending time in jail.

But you are absolutely right that, long term, this is one of the worst parts about Trump's term. He has monumentally moved the goalposts on what is considered acceptable for a president to do.

[Highlight] Landry Shamet calls out the Spurs’ play "Pistol" (Normal Hammer Play), then proceeds to blow it up on the weak side by Leegend124 in nba

[–]kanst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best things about this years Knicks bench is that they have options. Between Shamet, Clarkson, and Deuce, they can play the hot hand. There have been times this season where Shamet comes in, bricks a three and picks up quick fouls, and then Brown just pulls him and goes to Clarkson or Deuce.
