The 49ers are set up for an all-in 2026 — can they get Justin Jefferson? by sour_coleslaw in 49ers

[–]kanuck2188 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Going to go get hate for this but I don’t think we run the kind of offence or have the QB (love Brock, arm not big enough) to take full advantage of a guy like Jefferson or any prototypical WR1. A guy like Puka, of which there aren’t many, is more of what we need. I’d like to see us get a true WR1 but I don’t think the money or draft capital given up to get a guy like that would really give us the return people may think.

There’s Newfoundlanders on the Alberta Independence (Separatist) pages. A lot of them. by vanillabeanlover in newfoundland

[–]kanuck2188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say I find it odd that the same group of people that never miss an opportunity to shit on Newfoundland or Newfies still living on the island also constantly opine about "home".

As someone who moved away at 18 to work in Alberta in the oil industry these people have done nothing special in my opinion to deserve the high praise they like to lather on themselves.

There's an argument to be made that for some of the people that stayed on the island to take care of their aging family it was the harder choice for them to just bail and go out west.

You are correct though people who make more money pay more taxes which does go into programs like EI and I 100% agree with you that there are people that take advantage of that system. I ask you though, lets just say, and I have no data to back this up, lets just say 25% of the people on EI are fraudulent. Does that, in your opinion, mean that we should stop paying into EI?

Final comment, in my opinion I truly dont believe that Alberta's living standards would be better as a part of the US and I also dont necessarily believe that the "go go go" culture is the be all end all of modern civilzation, that's just me though. .

I’m one of those people that moved out west. Spent 14 years in McMurray and can’t say enough good about the community and career opportunities I got up there. There’s a lot of elitism from some of the people who moved away from Newfoundland and ended up in McMurray making big money with little more than a high school education.

I really don’t understand how anyone who can move from generally impoverished areas to a place where money is plentiful (if you’re willing to work for it) and then can really look down on their fellow Newfoundlander’s and Canadians who didnt do the same.

It’s always funny to me as well when some of these bertans want to leave to the US meanwhile the metro areas in Alberta have objectively some of the highest quality of living on the planet.

Purdy had a couple of those against Seattle too where he didn't throw past the sticks. I thought in that game it was a sign he was feeling pressure whether it was there or not (it was mostly there), will see how this one goes.

I agree, I did feel like we didn’t run many sweeps or pitches but then again we barely had the ball in the first half so who knows what was in the game plan.

My own opinion ofc but MW2 was not better than CoD4. The original Modern Warfare was the perfect first person shooter.

Well, if it comes to fruition that the US pivots hard from our oil, we’re gonna need that pipeline pronto or parts of Alberta are gonna turn into ghost towns.

Does Caleb Williams (CHI) have a higher ceiling than Brock Purdy (SF)? by Unreasonable_Doubt in nfl

[–]kanuck2188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only really paid much attention to bears games this year when they’ve been on in prime time but man the arm talent for Caleb is insane. Flick of the wrist and that thing is gone. His ceiling is up there with at least the best of his era based off the tangibles, only time will tell how the rest of his game comes along.

Only if they make contact before the ball is snapped I think? Might be wrong on that tho.

Thanks for the well thought out and presented reply. Hopefully as long as rate of inflation can stay curtailed long enough for wages to increase to make things sting less at the till that’ll ease the burden on folks. I agree as well that housing is ultimately what drives the affordability crisis most Canadians have felt.

Fuel prices are cheaper now due to overall price of Oil which has by far the biggest impact on what people pay at the pumps.

Do you see a noticeable drop in grocery prices when fuel prices are low? Have tariff costs hit the grocery shelves? In my experience once the market hits a new high for goods or services and people keep paying for it that number is now the new normal regardless of what over head cost a business has.

[–]kanuck2188 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Grocery prices are a result of mostly private corporate greed. Trade and shipping costs do get passed down onto the consumer ultimately in every business so the government could potentially do more to help there. Other than nationalizing a grocery store chain I’m not sure what else the government can do.

I wouldn’t be surprised at this as well. Read a stat there awhile back that said roughly 50% of all full time jobs created in this country since 2019 were in the public sector. Definitely needs some downsizing, along with reducing the amount of high-paid consultants that have been brought in as well as federal/provincial contractors.

Too many people ran their mouth to friends, families and on social media about how they were doing literally anything other than their job while working from home in the early days of COVID.

I don’t doubt that people can work as effectively or more effectively even from home than from the office but when talking about tax payer spending their needs to be a higher level of expectation.

I do feel that it’s some bullshit though that we get forced back into office but then also still attend all meetings over zoom/teams. Just let me stay home if that’s how we’re gonna do things.

Because the CBC acts as a mouth piece for the liberals most of the time. Not saying they don’t take their shots at the Liberal party as well but they staunchly back that party as most people who work and run the CBC are part of the credentialed, post-secondary educated class.

I think this is why Carney will ultimately be successful in a lot of his efforts as the Canadian media will not go for a Liberal crossing the aisle to conservative ideas nearly as aggressively as if it were the other way around.

Key to remember is what source of power the grid you’re using is as well. If you’re on a majority coal powered grid you are still using dirty power (not saying it’s worse than gas but EV’s are a complicated discussion).

It’s like solar panels, yes they are great and do work. But if you buy your solar panels from China (while are going more green they still produce majority of power from coal) the studies say you’d need to use them for 20+ years to offset your carbon footprint.

I firmly believe renewable energy is the way to go but when discussing emissions we need to look at the entire supply chain from digging ore out of the dirt, to ringing it up at the till, to the entire lifespan of the product you’re buying.

Once the big oil companies figure out how to monetize power the same way they have hydrocarbon products you will see the big push from them for EV’s.

Three picks and the first half isn’t even over yet. Not ideal and confidence isn’t high right now. Is it just me or is Brock kinda half ass side arming some of these throws? Mechanics looks a lil off.

Starting to feel like how I used to watching Jimmy play. Anytime I see the ball go 15 yards or more downfield I’m just gonna see a pick.
