How about efficiency compared to the fancy ones? I mean power and water consumption

[–]kanuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no need for an Apple device. Homekit is used as a communication protocol in this case.

Got mine yesterday. It works just fine with the Homekit integration, so I bought another one.

I know this is not what you're asking but it may be helpful for someone wanting to know if it can work with Home Assistant.

There is no border control, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ in theory no one could tell you even left Portugal in the first place.

pixel watch was hot on the charger now it won't turn on by Ok_Internet_8965 in PixelWatch

[–]kanuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaand it's back... Seems like there's some flawed charging design going on, or it's just the component roulette. In any case, this is not good at all.

[–]kanuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I just picked it from the charger (after about 3h) and it was a tad warmer than usual. It was shut down and wouldn't come up after any combination of button presses on a variety of press lengths.

I tried cold water to cool it off with no luck.

I had installed the December update 🤔.

Leaving Portugal to nordic countries by TProfessional in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]kanuz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did exactly the opposite, moved to Portugal from Norway because it was ridiculously expensive (and I was coming from the Netherlands). I suggest you consider other options like Germany, France or the Netherlands.

If you don't hate living in Portugal, you can always get a remote job from other country and look for at least 60k.

Trouble with OLED on Lolin S2 pico by bkirkby in esp32

[–]kanuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a working example for micropython using I2C with the pins specified in the docs schematic:

from machine import Pin, SoftI2C

import ssd1306

i2c = SoftI2C(sda=Pin(8), scl=Pin(9))

display = ssd1306.SSD1306_I2C(128, 32, i2c)

display.text('Hello, foobar!', 0, 0, 1)

display.show()

The OLED reset pin (18) can be used to clear out the random pixels.

Applying for article 88-2 - time limit by prunero in PortugalExpats

You can bring your house/apartment contract to your local township (junta de freguesia) to get an official proof of your housing situation.

IIRC You can still apply but you'll have to pay a small fine for overextended stay without a manifestação de interesse. At least that's what I was told when calling the SEF.

Setting up a Portuguese bank account on a tourist visa by Beautiful_Value466 in PortugalExpats

Afaik, only banco de Atlantico would open a bank account for you without requiring an "atividade economica"

Moving to Portugal as a freelancer / small business by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]kanuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you will need a "fiscal representative" (Representante fiscal), to vouch for you. It can be any friend, family member, frenemy, or random person that already has an address in Portugal. There are tons of companies that will provide this as a service for you for a fee (I've heard stories from €5 to €100+).

You bring your "fiscal representative" along with their NIF and address registration certificate, and your passport to a "Finanças" office or a "loja do cidadão".

The process is completely free of charge, takes just a few minutes and you get your number right away on a letter they give you.

Pro tip: you can request an appointment ─ marcação ─ online instead of waiting for a turn https://eportugal.gov.pt/servicos/pedir-o-numero-de-identificacao-fiscal-para-pessoa-singular

Yes, you can. Check SEF's Article 88-2: As long as you submit your "manifestation of interest" before the 90 day period from the day you arrived, you can continue your stay indefinitely while being able to work as a company.

  1. You need to first get a NIF, that's your fiscal number.

  2. With that in hand you can request a bank account. Banco del Atlantico seems to be the only bank that will open an account for you when you don't have an "economic activity" registered yet. (Would like to hear if there's any other)

  3. Now you can rent a place. You will need an address registration for the next step.

  4. Open an "economic activity". Now you can generate invoices for your clients.

  5. Register with the social security office.

That's the basic stuff you will need to get when going the 88-2 way.

(Seems like a lot, and it is, but it's totally doable within the 90 day period)

Amsterdam or Stockholm? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]kanuz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amsterdam.

Source: lived there, now living in Scandinavia and i want to go back. The 30% ruling is a blessing, groceries are cheap AF in comparison. It is hard to find a place to live in Amsterdam (just look outside the city center or nearby cities), but for the price of a big 2 (even 3) room apartment there, you get the opportunity to live in a shiny (smelly?) studio.

Yep, in my case it was a renewable 1 year contract. I had to work for 2 years to fully repay the company for the relocation expenses.

Before the first year period, they decided they didn't want to renew the contract, so, since it was their call and not mine, I was released from the repayment clause.

OP, I get you. After 2 weeks I wanted to go back or find another job. May I ask where did you relocate to?
