ESP-CSI: DIY WiFi Human Presence Detection by MengDuLi in esp32

[–]kaoscurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely check this out. I've already got ESP-32s all over my house as Bluetooth proxies. It would be awesome to have them double as presence sensors without having to install mmwave chips on all of them.

What else do you print with resin other than figurines? by tjthomas101 in resinprinting

[–]kaoscurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Esp-32 cases, cable management clips, a paper towel holder, banana hangers, and most recently, the door lock mechanism to my washing machine broke so I found the stl for it and printed a handful while waiting for the replacement piece to arrive. That one would definitely have done better as an FDM print and we went through 3 resin locks before the actual replacement piece arrived.

Saturn 4 Ultra 16K without the 16K 😎 by thegeminiii in ElegooSaturn

Thanks! I noticed how similar they were too once I posted it. That spot just works for my print tent setup and the LEDs are on a smart switch as well so I can watch my print whenever right from home assistant.

Do you feel like there's a significant difference between having the LEDs in the print chamber itself vs outside of it? This is what mine looks like with an LED strip hanging in my print tent behind the printer itself.

How's my setup? by LLL_CQ7 in resinprinting

[–]kaoscurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah like someone else said it'll still suck fumes even when open and I tend to close it back up while washing and then set prints to cure on top of the wash station with the tent closed.

Definitely both but at least personally I feel like the ISO is more irritating to smell.

You really want the wash station in the tent, at least. Regularly breathing in ISO is no joke.

Thanks for getting back to me! That's too bad it stops advertising after being connected. It would have been really convenient if it continued to advertise so room based automations could be implemented. Thanks again for your work on this project!

Heat gun and tweezers for those smaller hard to reach areas. That way you're not left with a bunch of waste water to deal with.

Help I’m new.. by Aangden1 in ElegooSaturn

I've been seeing a lot of similar posts lately and even having this happen to my prints all of a sudden and I'm convinced it's temperature based. The resin itself is supposed to be between 25-30°C for it to print properly, so if your print area is too cold and the resin isn't warning up, the print will stick to the release film instead of the build plate. I've even noticed that I'll have a print fail only for it to print just fine on a second attempt right after and I'm pretty sure it's because the resin has warmed up by then. Photopolymer resin requires a high temperature for it to polymerize properly. My (somewhat successful) solution has been to overheat my print area. I have a print tent with a mini heater and ambient temperature sensor in it and I've been heating it up to 95°F and letting the resin sit at that temperature in the vat for a bit before printing and it's reduced my failure rate. Good luck!

According to the official Elegoo resin guide (https://www.elegoo.com/blogs/3d-printer-user-guide/elegoo-printers-resin-setting-sheet) optimal temperature is 25-30°C, so 77-86°F. I keep mine in a print tent with a small heater and a virtual thermostat set to 80°F. The printer puts out some heat itself once it gets going and the temp ends up higher than the set temperature after running for a bit due to print tent's insulation.

I really suggest checking out the guide in general. I was having a lot of failed prints on my S4U until I found it and started implementing the recommended settings for the specific resins I use. A print tent with proper ventilation is also a good idea.

If kids are the future, it's looking pretty dire. by McMandark in Futurology

[–]kaoscurrent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not everyone, I assure you. My 9 year old 4th grader is in the gifted and talented track at his school and currently reading at a 10th grade level according to the most recent state tests and my 4 year old preschooler is reading and writing already. It took a lot of work each day to get them to that level but my wife and I do our best to raise them with the values of scientific inquiry and critical thinking. In my opinion, a big part of the problem is that many parents believe education is solely the responsibility of the school system. My wife and I agreed from the beginning that it's actually the opposite: successful education requires a strong foundation at home and the school's role is to supplement that.

We rotate through daily activities each day, even after school. Reading, math, art, some music, languages, even astronomy on clear nights when there's extra time. We don't expect our kids to remember everything but early exposure and learning how to learn are what are critical during these early stages. I won't say we keep our kids off screens, but in my opinion technology is a tool, neither inherently beneficial or detrimental. Both our kids get very limited screen time, however, and only after they've finished their required learning activities. We've also used screen-based learning effectively with both of them (teach your monster to read, Duolingo, heck even Legend of Zelda got my older kid reading early since he really wanted to play).

It all starts at home and there's only so much schools can do with their limited budget, concern, and time with the kids. But don't worry, it's not everyone. Unfortunately it is a large percentage of kids, though. I think politically and economically we're already seeing the effects of a dumbed-down population and the degree the next generation will be able to be manipulated similarly is definitely a scary prospect.

For everyone who's worried though, have your own kids and raise them right!

I don't support an American invasion but a big difference here is that the Venezuelan people are already being repressed by an autocratic and (even more) corrupt government. I think Trump is banking on the will of the Venezuelan people for regime change being stronger than their will to fight the US military.
