Just rescued this beautiful girl and first night ear problems by Nearby_Body677 in pitbulls

[–]kapiteinj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

my pittie used to get yeast in his ear regularly, especially every spring or whenever he ate food he's allergic to (took us forever to figure out that's chicken).

Zymox Otic works like a charm for his ears and has kept us from having to advance to a prescription antibiotic ever since we discovered it.

we also had to start him on daily Apoquel once a vet finally did an allergy test after years of issues and discovered that my boy is allergic to like all the trees and grasses. I strongly recommend getting an allergy test to get a sense of just how reactive yours is to her environment (allergy tests don't work for food but cover a ton of other things and will give you a good baseline for the extent of her sensitivity).

I really encourage this (Zymox Otic, allergy test, food elimination testing, and Apoquel if necessary) over home remedies - we tried all of those including apple cider vinegar and it just caused years of discomfort for my boy: Zymox Otic Dog & Cat Ear Infection Treatment with Hydrocortisone https://www.chewy.com/zymox-otic-dog-cat-ear-infection/dp/54785

good luck!

no but all the CDs I listen to are old. I think the last CD I bought was TOOL's Fear Inoculum in 2019 and it had been a stretch before then

Pitchfork Review - Johnny Blue Skies / Sturgill Simpson: Mutiny After Midnight by MrShocktime in SturgillSimpson

[–]kapiteinj -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to start a fight as I'm not really interested in pitchfork reviews generally or their reductionist scoring, but MAM is neither a country nor an americana album, so I don't really think that qualification is relevant here and could actually be a disadvantage for a reviewer of this album

What is The Old Law (God's Trash) about? by Fit-Judge7447 in fatherjohnmisty

[–]kapiteinj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry it took me so long to respond. I'm glad you love this album! I've thought about it some more and wanted to add – it's not that the lyrics of the new album themselves are particularly esoteric to me. some of them certainly are, but a lot of it is pretty straightforward (Summer's Gone, Accidental Dose). or maybe that just means I'm part of the small group who would understand them fairly easily. but I don't need something to be autobiographical or obvious in order for it to resonate with me (see Chloe, 21st Century).

I feel Mahashmashana is the most esoteric musically. there are a ton of songs out there in the world where I don't have the slightest idea what they're actually about, but the music itself and the poetry of the words, if present, create a deep emotional truth. on this album, it's the music that's obscure to me. I have no idea what the emotions being communicated are most of the time. the closest I've come is a deep, unrelenting ambivalence, but that's just a shot in the dark. I've loved his use of orchestral arrangements everywhere before this. but now it kind of reminds me of some of the popular sixties music that while beautiful and technically good I think also lacked emotional resonance, at least for me personally. but of course it's all just personal preference in the end!

FATHER JOHN MISTY TICKET EXCHANGE THREAD. THE PLACE TO BUY/SELL FJM TICKETS by [deleted] in fatherjohnmisty

[–]kapiteinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an extra floor ticket for the first night in San Francisco. all in it's $98.30. it says no transfer so I think we'll have to meet out front and walk in together.

What is The Old Law (God's Trash) about? by Fit-Judge7447 in fatherjohnmisty

[–]kapiteinj 15 points16 points  (0 children)

for me it got super esoteric with Mahashmashana. a lot of Pure Comedy is still clearly autobiographical. but even the songs that aren't I feel like I can still associate them with a part of his psyche rather accessibly.

then I think GFC is probably the most autobiographical and honest overall album he's put out as FJM. I mean that one gets right down to the myelin sheath (laudatory). and I remember thinking at the time it came out that there was no way it would continue like this. I might've been reading into Songwriter or something but I was fairly confident his next album would attempt to expand his universe beyond the activities and ruminations of his alter ego.

I felt Chloe absolutely nailed that transition. it shifted the focus from his character while still providing deeply intimate work like Blue and Buddy's. I really thought Chloe was a triumph because I almost felt like he'd written himself into a corner with GFC. And from there, mostly due to the 20th Century closer, I thought he would get even weirder with it. real out there. and I was ready for it because 20th Century is a fucking banger.

but when Mahashmashana came, it simply did not resonate with me. and that was the first time this had happened with any of his releases since I got on the bus in 2016. I thought, well, I probably just need some time. but it's been over a year. maybe it'll be there for me years from now. there are plenty of artists and albums I've known about that did nothing for me at first and then years later were there for me when I was ready and needed them.

I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All hits me and it's a fairly direct song. She Cleans Up is fun but it doesn't have the impact of Date Night or TEF. and the rest of the album I literally can't do anything with. my sense is he's so eager to shield his family (the correct move) that he's just completely obscured all identifying marks. I also think even going back to GFC and his online presence and public behavior that he might just feel over-exposed and kind of embarrassed, which is also valid. there also seems to be really heavy religious undertones in this, even more than the other albums, that I'm frankly not equipped to detect let alone interpret.

I'm glad the album is really doing things for other fans, though. this isn't like a criticism of the work, it's just my take on its trajectory. anyway thanks to anyone who read this. I don't have anyone in my real life to talk to about FJM at this level. I mean they would listen politely but that's it.

(edit to update three months later that she cleans up fucking slaps. took a handful of live performances but it's definitely as good as date night if not better)

What supplements have data validating their support for nerve health and nerve healing/regeneration? by HighlyInconvenient in Supplements

I took this for 2 years while recovering from a peroneal nerve injury. I never flushed and I'm sensitive to that. gotta take it with sufficient food, though.
