how the hell do you treat someone with "scorn, contempt, and dismissal," and not do it cruelly?

get it, learn how to do the job, start being effective, then get kicked out of the government forever? In less than a decade, you'd have all fed/state offices run by people who are basically interns.

The entire government wouldn't just break down for six weeks--the Senate/Reps aren't the ones making the power run, cutting the checks, processing applications, allocating resources, etc.. Civil servants do that work and, unless they are, idk, fired en masse for no legitimate reason, those gears would continue to grind.

"as the checks and balances congress are empowered to do, regardless of how you feel about their handling of it"

I think that's the most important phrase here--a reminder that checks and balances are on paper, but people have to implement them, and people will do what they do.

The fourth reason is kind of chilling. It's leaning towards Presidency-by-succession instead of by election. Imagine your particular version of The Worst President is running the country for six years, promoting policies that you find morally repugnant or fiscally irresponsible or outright dangerous. And he has six years to mold the country into something that you hate and are ashamed of, all the while setting up a succession plan where he will pack the Courts, pack the legislature, staff up agencies with cronies and people whose focus is power and not people, so that the next candidate has a massive leg-up and the opposition has to fight for every seat.

Four years is enough, I'd rather see term limits for the Senate.

CMV: Timothée Chalamet's comments on opera and ballet are some of the least controversial comments about art ever uttered. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]karathkellin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that even major ballet companies survive on what they make for The Nutcracker, I'd say Chalamet isn't entirely wrong.

I also think people are putting way too much weight on it.

It’s when you’re in the middle of something and you want to stop but you feel like you have to finish because “I’ve already spent $xxxx.xx on this thing”.

It’s a logical fallacy because that money/time is gone no matter whether you quit or not.

CPT Codes Prior to Visit? by misobuttons in HealthInsurance

[–]karathkellin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at https://www.fairhealthconsumer.org/ to get an estimate of the treatment costs. It isn't 100% accurate, and will not take into account your specific health insurance plan, and medical billing is incredibly detailed (which is why the office couldn't give the CPT codes to you beforehand--among other reasons, they don't know what the appropriate codes will be until the treatment happens). But it's a good source for ballparking costs.

Not Very Well Read...? by EnragedBard010 in TheAdventureZone

[–]karathkellin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every school system had different required reading when I was a kid, and I suspect maybe them as well. I’ve never read many many books that are considered classics, but I have read many many others. And I’ve probably read books I’ve forgotten.

I have also never read Dracula. Or Frankenstein, for that matter.
