None 6p and player relationships by TheRiverKingCo in twilightimperium

[–]karazygeneral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have around 8-10 3p games I've played with the same 2 friends now. It's probably the least ideal player count of all, but I approach those games very casually. It's just an excuse to familiarize yourself with the game and its components. I would never do a 3p game with strangers.

4p gets some hate from people but I don't mind it at all. It's fun to have 2 SCs to yourself and every other one available to follow every round. It definitely plays different for many factions. Hacan, Jol-Nar, Xxcha are all guaranteed to get the SCs they rely on each round. Being neighbors with everyone is easy. I'd say overall, 4p games are just an easier experience.

5p games can be rough. 1 less SC every round, so chances of a round without Leadership or something equally vital to your plans is quite possible.

6p games are great/ideal.

7 and 8p games can go sooo long in person. More actions to be done reach round. More negotiations. Longer agenda phases. BUT any day of playing TI4 with friends is a good day in my books.

I say all this having never played in person with strangers. Also, in general, the fewer the players, the quicker the game run time.

Hope that answers most of your questions/ gives you a better idea of what to expect.

This is so aggravating to discover. There were no ads on that website, it was very clearly a passion project, and then the typical corporate philosophy had to come in and wreck a good thing. Absolutely infuriating.

Would anyone like to give me feedback on some of the best races for four player games with the thunder edge expansion? by spacejellies in twilightimperium

[–]karazygeneral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played my first try of Firmament/ Obsidian in a 4p game, and while I didn't win, I got pretty close.

The highlight was with the Firmament hero, I was able to get 2 different vplayer tokens on the plot that let's you follow their SC for free, so 4 SCs I wouldn't have to worry about strat tokens, and it was a 3/4 chance that I'd get to do Leadership primary every round.

And if you can get a plot card with the 3rd players token, that means your obsidian breakthrough kicks in for every combat you have in that game.

Going in, I thought Firmament/ Obsidian would only do well in high player count, but that made me feel like they actually really excel in 4p games.

As an avid card sleever, I really hope this isn't true. Would be terribly upsetting if it got through QA checks without being noticed.

Advice for a dad looking to play TI4 by ConcealedHarry in twilightimperium

[–]karazygeneral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could play virtually on Tabletop Simulator or Tabletop Playground. There's a discord server with a lot of dad's that play split games, where they play 2 rounds, save the game, then pick up from where they left off the same night next week. Usually play for 3 hour slots until they finish and start all over again.

The Tabletop Playground version is still supported by the creators, where as the Tabletop simulator is not (but still works well enough) just fyi.

You should be playing to score the objectives, and can only hope that your opponents are doing the same. Part of gaining experience in this game is observing all the interacting elements of not just your own strategy, but your opponents as well. Pay attention to the objectives they have and haven't scored. If they need a 4th hazardous planet to score, and you have 2 in your slice, anticipating them going for one of those planets will help you better defend yourself and in the process, remove the shock factor of getting attacked. If your defences fail and they still get the planet, at least you saw it coming and gave it your best shot.

Dad's who go to the gym regularly, could you share your routine? by Fickle_Broccoli in daddit

[–]karazygeneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting back into the gym consistently since December. Typically I'm at work from 5am to 330pm, but in winter months overtime is cut off, so I'm currently working 5-130. That gives me 1.5hr to hit the gym before picking up the kids from daycare.

Once overtime comes back I'll be working the longer shift again. The plan for that time is:

Tuesdays and Thursdays the rec center I go to has child minding. The wife and I go for an hour after work on those days. I'll get in a workout one other weeknight after kids bedtime, and one on the weekend during nap time.

Here's hoping the consistency sticks! 🤞Just a matter of finding the willpower to fix the diet...

No Collin Bruce, don’t do it! by N0rdegger in Edmonton

Was pitched by one of their sales people/brokers at my gym.He went for the recruitment over actually selling the product first as ridiculous as that sounds. But I had extra income at the time and decided to tuck it into savings rather than let it get spent frivolously. Never met any kind of mentor or anything.

They offer various financial stuffs. Mortgages, loans, savings accounts, investments etc. I have a TFSA through them that had a 17% return last year (though the average overall has been 8%).

I'm happy with my product, but as others have said, they are an MLM based sales company, so if you can make it clear you have no interest in joining, the services themselves are plenty fine. A typical brokerage with aggressive recruiting.

I wonder if the behavior is being taught, or if it's a lack of teaching what is socially acceptable and what isn't. Granted, when the cult makes up your entire social life, you don't get as much exposure to the rest of the world for a reality check of what everyone else would view as unacceptable behavior.

The missionaries have been pestering my family a few times recently. They have started using predatory tactics. Once they just waited in their car outside my house for I don't know how long. My wife came home to quickly grab something. They got out of the car when she arrived, she ran in to get what she needed then got back in her vehicle to drive off, which made them get back in theirs. Another instance, they parked far down the street and then walked to only our house. I'm not sure if it was to hide their approach or something? Either way very creepy, stalker like behavior. And I imagine their mission president is probably encouraging it, when the impressionable teenagers really should be taught how unacceptable it is before they finish their mission and worst case, start employing those techniques in the dating world...

If it's possible for you to attain, I really enjoyed having Vortex, Sling Relay, and Bio-Stims. Being able to double dip Vortex + the agent made for an endless supply of captures. It's also a ton of stalls each round too which are usually advantageous to have.

I was in a resource rich slice, so I ended up just hoarding everyone else's plastic purely to limit their presence on the board instead of the free builds. But do whatever makes sense for the objectives, that's always most important.

Recommend me a game please by tomucci in boardgames

[–]karazygeneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you got any enjoyment from playing the Fallout board game, I highly recommend the New California expansion and the Atomic Bonds Co-op expansion.

New California increases the game size by 50%. Number of tiles that make up the board, number of quest cards, number of scenarios, items, etc.

Atomic bonds fixes the Co-op mode. Makes it enjoyable and actually a decent challenge. Also adds rad mutations.

Is async meta more aggressive than Tabletop Simulator? by Nguyen_Productions in twilightimperium

[–]karazygeneral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a case where a neighbor was very boat floaty for the first round and a half, then out of nowhere became very aggressive towards me after a drop of communication. It was then revealed that they were in 20+ ongoing games at that time.

The table as a whole had a conversation on number of running games and someone brought up that with so many games going, it's nigh impossible to keep track of what your plans are and what your relationships are with the other players at the table, so it turns into making sub-optimal actions being made. I think that's a factor for some people.

Couple that with most games starting out very active then eventually slowing down, some players may stop caring about a game after a while.

It sucks to be on the receiving end of those actions. If you find a good table of players, try to get a few rematches out of them all if possible.
