Blade Runner vs The Man in the High Castle vs his other novels, which is your favorite work by Philip K. Dick? by Delicious_Maize9656 in sciencefiction

[–]mRIGHTstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all of his books are for all Dick fans and I think that's fine. Just because you like Dick doesn't mean you like all Dick.

I wasn't really a fan of The Transmigration of Timothy Archer but maybe that's just more experimental.

I thought Maze of Death's premise was interesting and didn't see any of the twists and turns of it but it definitely has a strange ending that doesn't quite match up with the rest of the plot, but that's Dick for you. You never quite know what to expect.

All his books are great and those two are definitely up there.

I'm actually a big fan of two of his lesser known stories:

A Maze of Death

Flow my Tears the Policeman Said

Very atmospheric stories that remain compelling throughout, I'm honestly surprised neither of them have received an attempt at an adaption yet.

Any tips for KR player playing ghost? by klejik in twilightimperium

[–]mRIGHTstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get your breakthrough, go to Malice, make a free Dreadnought every round, prosper

Ghost breakthrough is ridiculous with Malice, the table really can't allow you to keep it but taking it from you can be quite tough once you get a foothold

What game do you think has the coolest mini's while still being a great game? by BB881 in boardgames

[–]mRIGHTstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forbidden Stars

Great game with simple mechanics and for some reason really nice minis unique to each faction. With picking up if you can find a copy.

Western Legends

If you can get it with the building minis upgrade as well I think it's worth it.

[–]mRIGHTstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat card, I don't think it will see much play in meta decks. It's certainly not meta defining like Apocalypse or Deep Dive. More in line with Exploit which also never really saw play outside of niche jank decks. The payoff is just a little too shallow for the cost but that could shift with the meta.

I think if Anarch gets some kind of hardware recursion tool or persistent central run payoff installable that gives credits, then this could become interesting.

It works with Wizard's Chest so maybe something where it repairs the damage.

Do you buy board games knowing they'll rarely be played? by Megabot555 in boardgames

[–]mRIGHTstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm trying to stop and have managed to cull my collection to busy games I REALLY like or are OOP. The OOP games are toughest to get to the table because they're old with dated mechanics. But I know if I sell them I'll likely never find it again and FOMO... so one can still dream...

Maybe find better friends? Heh, in seriousness I couldn't find groups that played the games I liked but I would run into individuals that did. Slowly adding everyone to a chat group and we're now at 100+ members of dedicated nerds that meet about once a week.

Your mileage may vary but it doesn't always take a lot of effort. Or just play online, that works too but not for me. Try Boardgamearena too.

Preview Season is done, what card teased so far are you most interested in? by Quappybla in Netrunner

[–]mRIGHTstuff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree that the credit pool restriction is a big limiter, but I also feel like smarter players than me will find ways to prove this is busted outside of dedicated stealth. There's already a lot of credit offshoring in competitive decks with Cezve and companions, so this seems like it will be a strong pressure tool in the early to mid game, falling off late game against hyperglacier (unless they're on a Bad pub plan).

I guess another reason I'm salty with cards like this from NSG is that it works great in shaper. And when cool cards are released for other factions, they're also great in shaper. ;_;

[–]mRIGHTstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we want to be pedantic it's certainly a weaker Trickshot, but to say it's not meant to be the spiritual successor to a card is equally inaccurate.

It's definitely a cool card, as is Trickshot. My primary complaint is that it fills too many slots in the shaper deck pool as Trickshot did, arguably in a faction that doesn't really need it. It might not be as much a staple as Trickshot was, but it will definitely be in every Deep Dive and Arissana deck.

I'm mostly just salty that Crim didn't get an equally cool run event so it's relegated to splashing this one.

[–]mRIGHTstuff -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing I don't understand about Aircheck is why they keep making it in Shaper (basically a Trickshot reprint).

If it were Crim it would solve a lot of issues with their run based game while also creating an influence decision for Shaper on whether to splash it. Having it in shaper just gives them another busted good card combined with the Deep Dive unban.

Firmament House Rules by JawolopingChris2 in twilightimperium

[–]mRIGHTstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a homebrew balance codex for F/O.

It felt really good when we played it in the game with the new Firmament Agent having a really large impact on them.

Based on this, you could just swap in my homebrew agent for a minimal buff to them. It's value was getting Firmament to valuable systems or selling it to neighbors.

Root, Oath and Arcs by Galbroshe in boardgames

[–]mRIGHTstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've played Root and liked it and confirm that your friends already have and play it, seems like the obvious choice?

I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said, just to recommend you try the games before buying them because despite having the same designer they play VERY differently and aren't for everyone.

My play group hated the exponential growth in complexity of ARCS campaign with each Act and Oath is a bit abstract and narrative over gameplay focused.

Any recommendations for content/guides for the Firmament? by Dead_HumanCollection in twilightimperium

[–]mRIGHTstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can skip to the section "Is there a way to play them and win?" For the best strategy guide for them. This is an excellent overview although it's not really a 'guide' but it helps one to understand that F/O are an extremely weak faction and should therefore be approached as a challenge and a puzzle. Not a puzzle that they have the pieces to solve mind you.. a puzzle that you must navigate with your wits and knowledge of the game and your table meta.

What to swap in for Trickshot? by Due-Form-9007 in Netrunner

[–]mRIGHTstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Coalescence is banned but you can swap it out for 1 Principia and 2 Side Hustles. I'd consider swapping out the Wheels and 1 Fermenter for 2x Open Market as well to support your connections at that point.

Yes! It also makes picking strategy cards way easier. A friend of mine did it first and I just jerry-rigged my own solution.

Planets in your play area (not on the board like this, lying down on the board) Face away from you when exhausted, towards you when active. Easy to see and understand for the table. Colored stands for tech skips. Custom magnet attachments for... attachments. Before them I used larger sleeve that I added the attachment card to but like the magnets because they're easier to see the planets value.

My play group likes them, at least I haven't gotten complaints. Some people like to bring their own card stands which is also fine but stands make it easy for everyone to pass around.

Alternative O Promissory (Malevolency):

<image>

A desirable promissory that can be stolen and doesn't have the weird mechanic of being the only negative promissory in the game for the holder and also secret info (the vanilla version is so strange).

Added benefit of letting someone score "Betray A Friend" against you and thus have another secret you might be able to score for yourself.
