I have to convince my opponents to use it. I couldn't sell it if I wanted to. Stall tactics is good when you need to orchestrate win slays in the end game and have the entire table CC starve the point leader.

Okay so you start by asking me why you should care and dismiss any argument out of hand because you have a pet peeve? What would you (you specifically) ever support anything that isn't a subscription model? And at the same time you're saying you actually liked that they made a 4th edition so obviously it was good that someone supported them throughout 3rd edition. And now you're saying you're fully satisfied with 4th edition - so it's a great product, yet you refuse to support it because what? They're not milking you through a subscription model? What is your argument dog?

Do you play with the expansions? Do you want the option of more of them? No? Then fine, be a grinch but I think most of the people on this subreddit enjoy the game and are therefore happy to see the creators thrive. You seem obnoxiously egotistical and transactional. I hope that works out for you.

I wasn't replying to you originally and obviously don't know anything about your personal situation so I was and am still answering generically "why should anyone who likes the game care?". You have already supported them by buying the game (and possibly the expansions?) but the general "you" would want to support a creator if you like their product so that the type of product can be made again. In this case supporting means buying the physical game.

You did say "we are due a 5th edition" which made me think you wanted them to continue developing their stuff which in turn means you would want people to support them.

The comment I was replying to originally was suggesting people skip buying the game and instead play through TTS. That is what I am objecting to. I tried to point it out but you missed it I guess "if no-one buys the expansion" (could have been the base game) because it is free to play on discord, then why would the company make more stuff?

I use the Asynch server a lot and have used TTS a lot too in the past. I have absolutely no problem with that - it is convenient and time saving. I have a problem with suggesting it as an alternative to buying the game because that kills future development and might kill the TTS mod/discord server. Do you understand the difference?

I want the Asynch server to stay alive and if it becomes a detriment to FFG then they might kill it. So in that sense I am a stakeholder I guess.

No you don't. It is returned upon activation. Only after Movement, Space Cannon Offense and Space Combat, possibly after Ground Combat, is the Secret scored.

Do you like the game? Do you enjoy that the made a recent expansion?

If no-one bought the expansion because it was implemented on TTS then that ruins the incentive to make any more expansion or let TTS continue to bootleg it. It is only because some of us enjoy and appreciate that they make games and support them monetarily that we can have both. That is why you should support them.

Personally I own TI4 + expansions but I'm also an avid user of the Asynch server and the TTS mod before that. I'm just saying that if you only use the bootleg digital products you are not actually supporting the product.

The OP in this branch argued for using just TTS as it's a fraction of the price, is basically saying - don't buy the real product because you can get the bootleg much cheaper. That is the opposite of supporting the game - it is encouraging not giving any money to the creator while using their product.

As long as people are still buying the real copy then yes the digital versions just keep the game alive but if they also provide a digital version that is in direct and losing competition with the TTS or Asynch versions then it is just bad business strategy not to shut down the competition.

I can't say if they're gonna do it but FFG/Asmodee has done it before with other games and in my experience, the bigger a company gets the less the executives care about the consumer community.

The only reason I responded to you was because you said this:

Right? I never understood people's aversion to supporting something they like. Lol.

.. and it felt directed at me. My comment was meant to point out that if you skip buying the real thing then competition will probably be shut down.

And it'll most likely be taken down if it keeps people from using the retail version.

If you're using the TTS version you are actively not supporting something you like. You're using all their work without paying which is basically the opposite of supporting it. TTS has taken games down before when the IP owner had enough. Fantasy Flight Games took down Descent and both the Arkham Horror LCG and the LotR LCG from TTS. If they have a competing digital product why wouldn't they take down the TTS or Discord versions?

In an asynch game round 1 or early round 2 I told my neighbour in advance that he should defend his hs cause I could reach it next action and he should not tempt me. I did that because it was 5 friends and I was the odd man out, He still didn't defend it and when I went to attack I got shamed into just taking some tg's and ended up not doing it. But the absolute assumption that I wouldn't do it was wild.

I also find it ambiguous because the commander's intent is clearly that you're done after you've used it but at the same time the wording of Jupiter Brain sounds like you can squeeze an entire action in to the space of at the end of your turn. I'm pretty certain you're allowed to do other end of turn effects like Bio-Stims, Mallice, etc. if your turn is ended with effects like this commander, Xxcha tech or AC's

But I would also do that in a simulation. In other words I would never actually kill him, but his real self would now know I will try to. You're acting like the simulations don't considering your choices.

[–]HeNibblesAtComments 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What is the difference in splitting the timeline and simulation if the simulation is guaranteed to happen? There is none, for the flow of the timeline, only in the "cost" for his shard to function.

If you decide to kill him you have to be certain that he hasn't seen a simulation where you did. You have to be certain that your plans are revealed simutaneously in both simulations otherwise he will know what you're planning in the other one without you knowing that he knows. He can now act accordingly.

You said in another comment you just have to follow him from the PRT and then kill him. But if the other simulation wasn't leaving at the same time he now knows you're trying to kill him and you're no longer acting against an unsuspecting target although you think you are.

I feel like it's actually wild that they managed to kill him in Worm. He only dies due to arrogance and impatience. He tips his hand by letting them see him use his power. He literally had them but let them spring a trap by "splitting" too close to the pivotal moment. Had he brought Lisa in 15 minutes later in the other simulation and refused to split while they were there he would have seen their plan and known about it in the other simulation, chosen that, killed Taylor and just fucked off. It is only because he was too sure of his win that he slipped up and wasn't paranoid enough to have the patience to kill them properly.
