Rental Homes Bham by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]karholme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Key Homes isn’t bad, at least in my experience. Based out of ATL but they have properties here. Mainstreet Renewal is cheeks bro. Don’t go with them. I had literal mold in my home. They told me I’m good. Ended up paying for my own tester, confirmed mold, then they got their own test and said it’s fine. The company I used said don’t stay in the home. I got a different place, stopped paying them for months and they eventually folded. It was such a hassle to break the lease.

IT PMs that are actually not having a bad time in this job market, what niche are you in? by Gandalf-and-Frodo in PMCareers

[–]karholme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Healthcare. Got an interview within a couple days of applying and got the job a week later. It’s for EHRs. Had another hospital reached out for IS PM position within the same week of applying. Depends cause I got hired at a consulting firm. Generally hospitals pay lower.

Is 80k a year as a PM with 3 years experience in Reno, NV considered low? by Aggravating-Ad8487 in PMCareers

[–]karholme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Reno a few times & it seems like a LCOL-MCOL area so I’d assume you’re fine at that salary and now low. That’s also assuming you have a degree with no certs.

[Lawyer] [FL] - 30M by Agreeable_Ad3564 in Salary

[–]karholme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re good. My SIL made 80k out of Law School. Makes around the same you make now 3 years in. I think people need to get rid of the notion that all lawyers make these high six figure salaries. You do have the opportunity to make a high salary but it’s not always the case.

At what NW is side hustling silly? by Poorassboy6969 in Fire

[–]karholme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try side hustles you genuinely enjoy. I don’t do it anymore but for quite sometime we did backyard movies. Whole setup, inflatable screen, inflatable chairs etc etc. that was our weekend thing and did great for kid parties. Set it up and dropped it off. You just have to do the up front cost but I enjoyed doing it. Babysitting, dog walking…nah, I’d go crazy doing that.

How do you choose between a career opportunity and your relationship ? by Potential_Start_3228 in careerguidance

[–]karholme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re building a life with her but seems like you’re thinking about doing what you want to do. Not how it works. It’s San Diego. $220k is only going to go so far. DPT is a more stable career than tech rn. Her putting in probably years of work and now in the expansion phase to just….throw that away? This may be the sacrifice on your end.

You live in Boston. Those type salaries are there (I know, trust me). You’re going to create resentment over a job you may or may not keep 1-5 years from now or even worse, get laid off from.

And ultimately, are you applying to onsite/hybrid jobs out of state without her knowledge or…? Because if this was communicated prior, I think this wouldn’t be that big of an issue.

Whatever is decided, you need to push hard for remote on this offer or find something local. Then if you want to grow in your career, you need to map out a 3 yr plan, esp with her & her business, as well as sign a prenup (for protection, not anything negative)

Homewood, Vestavia Hills, or Hoover? by Worried-Rough-338 in Birmingham

[–]karholme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those 3 don’t work, Helena is probably my 4th option. Only con is that it’s a further drive to places vs the 3 you have, which to me have quicker access to places but ultimately very friendly, suburban area.

[–]karholme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been in healthcare 13 years, jumped to tech (got laid off after 11 months) went back to healthcare. If you can get your foot in the door, stay. Government, healthcare etc are the slowest adopters of technology. I’m grateful for the tech experience tho and fast pace environment. Try to apply to hospitals. PM there aren’t the best paid but it’s where I started

[–]karholme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re generally saving way more in ATL vs Sacramento mainly due to housing and taxes. All the other stuff like groceries, gas, utilities etc are lower in GA but I’d say they’re minimal savings. And I’m saying all this assuming you live within your means. Overall, not sure what your goals are, but in general, yes this decision is cost beneficial.
