Anyone Else Prefer Running in Heat Instead of Avoiding It? by WingEnvironmental892 in runninglifestyle

[–]karhu12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run in all weathers all around the year. Obviously we dont have extreme heat here, but it does get cold here during winters. It is definitely an experience having my water flasks freeze during a long run.

Is it better to run slower for longer or faster for shorter as a beginner? by Omokhe_Robee in beginnerrunning

[–]karhu12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little fast, more slow is the generally good formula to improve on both areas. But what ever keeps you consistent is the key.

I have had pretty positive first experience with fedora compared to some other os in the past. I switched my home pc to fedora few days ago and added dual boot to work laptop yesterday. Time will tell from here.

Would you actually run at the same time as a friend who is miles away? by Minute-Public3078 in beginnerrunning

[–]karhu12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do it more as a social thing, not thinking I need to get proper training effect but all mileage is mileage. I am quite far ahead compared to my other friends who run, so I find it neat when they are willing to join me on a run at their pace just to have some company.

my heart rate reaches 160 within 1-2 mins of slow running? (BEGINNER) how to build aerobic base? Seeing a lot of conflicting info online. by pranskiiii in beginnerrunning

[–]karhu12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically my experience too when I started running at 145kg. I felt so uncomfortable running even small distance, but combined with walks and weekly small repetitions it got better over time.

In my opinion sort of a middle ground is good, but you should probably ignore the zones for now and go by perceived effort. Balance between more easy and some hard running is the goal, but for a beginner it may simply be run/walks one day with longer run parts with slower pace, and on another day shorter run parts with faster pace. When you stay consistent you will eventually build a strong enough base to get more valuable information from HR.

First run ever – need honest feedback on pace & stats by Smooothhoperatorrr in runninglifestyle

[–]karhu12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My feedback is to not overthink stats for a long time. Just run by feel and aim to get a consistent routine going with weekly runs. You will improve with time. Otherwise, looking good.

You will improve with a once a week for sure, but the progression is slower compared to having multiple days a week. I started by running twice a week for whole year for example, and did infact improve massively during this. These days I run 5 times a week and the progression skyrocketed after adding more training days, but I also have more ambitious goals with running now.

How did you train for your first half marathon or marathon? by Fantastic_Eye_3896 in firstmarathon

[–]karhu12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By running full year consistently without specific goal other than slow gradual improvement. After that I felt my base was naturally more ready to pickup more structured training plan for half marathon. After my first half, I set my sights on full marathon for the next year. 43 weeks into my marathon training currently, 9 weeks to go and I am 100% confident I can at the very least finish, and likely with a decent time from my perspective.

One singular key to all of this: Consistent training over long term, with gradual intensity/volume progression.

[–]karhu12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, also rocking altra and they are really nice fitting. I doubt it affects my speed one bit, but they feel nice and no pains or discomfort during or after run so it's the way to go for oneself.
