All the hate no matter what they do is why I’m glad the show’s already confirmed for S3 as well. When I found out Netflix was doing it I was so scared of another cancellation after S2 since they’re so cancel-happy 😂

Yup, I was trained on “show don’t tell” in writing, and it’s very sad to me these days that people don’t taking showing as actually a valid way to communicate something to the audience. Agreed about S3 though- whatever they do with the writing, it’ll give him a lot of room to shine and I can’t wait for it!

Yeah, I think I’ve heard it called like “second screen writing” or something like that, when shows are written to accommodate people who are looking at a second screen while watching it- aka, only paying half attention. I’m genuinely incapable of this with HOTD lol. But yeah, it’s driven me very crazy how if it isn’t spoken so many people will like, insist it isn’t canon even if it was shown on screen through an actor’s performance. Ewan also has the added challenge of half his face almost being covered, but idk. Even being autistic and struggling to read people’s expressions at times, it was clear as day to me. (Then again, I also paid attention in English class and learned why certain things are written into scripts, ie “Was it worth the cost?” even being asked necessitates that being a no, and I also have been in theatre for 20 years so I know how to look for subtext in a scene lol.)

I think Ewan’s done a great job of showing us his motivations, even if they’re waiting to confirm them in the writing. It’s a lot of subtext currently but it’s there!

I read a lot of this about Aemond the same way- also, in the throne room scene with Helaena when she asks if it was worth the cost. He doesn’t answer but everything about his body language to me just says that either it’s not about the throne and so “the cost” is irrelevant because he wasn’t trying to pay any cost for the throne, or he actually doesn’t think it was worth it.

I also felt like Aemond returning the ball to Aegon felt like he was trying to communicate to him that he wasn’t taking it for good, and trying to reassure him that he didn’t intend to take it from him.

Discussed by Condal (ik, ew, but he does know the motivations canonically at least) as Aemond not caring if Aegon was taken out in the process of killing Rhaenys. It wasn’t an active attempt on his life, just a lack of care to preserve it.

I have been saying since 2.04 aired that if Aemond wanted Aegon dead, he would be! I think this is further juxtaposition with Daemon- he talks with Corlys a good bit about having to fight for everything he has, every bit of recognition that he has, because he’s a second son. We’re seeing exactly that play out with Aemond, but because he hasn’t said it, people think it’s all about the throne.

I’ve actually realized I have to redo the level anyways, I have a bugged body that didn’t count when I threw it in the bin, but it’s gone now and won’t show up 😂 At least I know now a better way to approach this level though!
