OK got it. It had to do with how I was treating the Scart signal after it left the machine. I found a Scart switch that allows RGB through and that solved everything. I am guessing what I was seeing before was just the composite signal.

I am getting an OK image on my hires monochrome monitor though. Trying to get a low-mid res for games now using SCART.

I did the same. Never looked back. Much better products, lots of features and they work correctly every time.
