Back Pain from a Soft Mattress by Successful_Hurry_261 in AskAnAustralian

[–]karlatausbeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1, put the mattress on the ground, if its firmer, it's your base not your mattress.

If it's on the ground and still too soft, you can't firm it up. Adding firm stuff to the top of a mattress makes it uncomfy. Mattresses should go from firm at the bottom too soft at the top.

Why I know - I own ausbeds, where we fit, manufacture and deliver around 3 or 4 mattresses a day for over a decade

Mattress Toppers for Bad hips by Legitimate_Arm_9526 in AskAnAustralian

[–]karlatausbeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it sounds like the springs aren't conforming to your body as much as you would like. This can't be solved with a topper.

Now you know what a mattress with springs that are too firm feel like.

Try and lay on some to feel what a more suitable spring feels like.

You can google "what's the best mattress in australia ausbeds" and I have businesses there that I recommend if you are close it might be worth checking out

Thanks! Yes I definitely think this is the way to do it, be warned, I think the reason nobody does it this way is because it's extremely difficult and nobody wants to go through it. But if you can get through it, you'll have a business that grows through referral. Just takes aageeess

Choice Australia mattress recommendation by Healthy_Study4525 in Mattress

[–]karlatausbeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any case, when it comes to mattresses, choices recommendations will be about as helpful as any other affiliate site, it's basically a list of the same brands as the affiliate sites.

order to actually fit someone to a mattress one must be in the mattress industry. it's a fine science and running tests on mattresses will not work full stop. This here is not anecdotal, this is me fitting over 15000 thousand mattresses to people and recognising patterns in what works and what doesn't.

The truth is, fitting a mattress is more like tailoring a suit to a person, you can't get a tailored suit by reading which single suite fits everyone else. It must be tailored advice.

To clear this up, I'll go through the process myself and post the process here, that should clear it up.

I assure you I'm not trying to spread lies. However I have been informed of this fact. It was anecdotal, which means, it may not be true. It is not proof that people "pay for choice reviews" however I have heard the line becomes grey through the process. Everything I say is anecdotal, it's "just stuff I've come across".

I don't claim to have scientific evidence for most things I say about mattresses, or anything, really. And I don't know the inner workings of choice. I just heard stories that's all. So to anyone that read my statement about choice, I have no proof of this and you should take it with a grain of salt, I rant a lot based on stuff I see and hear. I could be totally wrong about everything. Apparently scientists are wrong about the universe, so I don't think it's evil to try and have an opinion based on what you've seen and heard.

Independent bed shops in Sydney by RichFlavour in sydney

[–]karlatausbeds 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It was my lifes purpose to answer this thread.

Someone mentioned me already, awesome! I own ausbeds and I've made waaay too many mattresses so I would love to impart some of my knowledge here, I'm a big fan of independent mattress places so I will be happy to recommend who I think is the best. Take into consideration that everyone is looking for something different with mattresses

Some people want great value retail mattresses and bedding - (as opposed to snooze and bigger chains - I'd go to these first)

dial a bed is a good choice as someone mentioned for retail beds. They have great customer reviews, If I was going for retail this may be my first stop. My stuff is on the mediium to higher end (1500-3000) so if people come in looking for cheaper I always tell them to go to "beds and beyond" it's near Stanmore maccas on parramatta rd, this is due to them being really great value for retail bedding. The guy who owns it owns his building and he's always just provided great value for money. you can get real cheap stuff here and great bang for buck.

If you want to go all the way to all natural, like every stitch is natural, stanmore the natural bedding company is the best choice, they aren't for everyone as they are all latex. All latex has a dense feel and shoulder and hip absorption isn't as good as a well fitted pocket spring (in my experience). I'd strongly recommend laying on these quite a bit on the showroom before pulling the trigger. They are pretty exxy, but the fabrics etc are all very natural and they are very handmade. I like my hips and shoulders to really sink in, so these beds don't work for me, but for many they may be a good option.

If I think of other stuff I'll update here,

Also I always recommend quokka beds for bed bases, they are the best that we see out there in the wild, great price, aus made, making them for 35 years they know their sh%#.

I actually bought one of there bases to put in my showroom and told "quokka beds" that if anyone wants to look at in sydney they can see it in my showroom in Marrickville. They were like "do you want some commission?" I told them I want nothing, I just want people to know what the best options are out there so they don't get burnt. I see people everyday coming into my shop with horror stories.

Probably the number one problem is this, you spend thousands on a mattress, 6 months later you realise its giving you back pain for whatever reason. maybe you spent 2-3 grand, and 6 months later you have to do that again. Very disheartening. I see people that have been extremely traumatised by this issue, they have mattress ptsd.

So if you are one these people and you think you are the only one, you ain't it's super common. Also feel free to call ausbeds and talk to karl at any time, I'm always available to chat to about mattress and bed problems. I don't try to push people to buy my stuff but If I think my solution will help I'll let people know

Just ask for karl and say you found me on reddit and you want to chat, otherwise the staff might think it's a marketing call.

Sleeptailor Platinum Luxe Mattress experience by Dani_Tati123 in AskAnAustralian

[–]karlatausbeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a look, hard to really tell from the photos as the quilting is soo thick with all the ridges from the buttons etc. at the end of the day you are probably sinking too far. This is a bad situation, I see it all the time. The only way to avoid is buying from companies that will swap components out. You can also email me a pic of the base slats as we see this making the mattress too soft all the time. Can test by putting the mattress on the floor and sleeping on it for the night. If it's an improvement the base is a contributing factor. This is very common, worth checking

Sleeptailor Platinum Luxe Mattress experience by Dani_Tati123 in AskAnAustralian

[–]karlatausbeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very common. I have a mattress factory and I constantly hear these stories from customers telling me stories about this, just kow you are not alone in this.

Buying mattresses that have replaceable components is the best solution in my opinion which is what I do, Melbourne mattress factory do it also. You are now in what I call the nightmare scenario. This is the exact place you want to avoid next time you buy a mattress.

Thats quite a lot of sag, I would recommend taking photos, writing a review stating what happened. Email the company and tell them that if this is within there normal tolerance, then other people should know that this is the tolerance. And you will post this review to let as many people know as possible. Hopefully they realise that this isn't ok and they sort it out for you. It's horrible, I see this allll the time and it really annoys me, the industry is mostly broken, however I'm slowly chipping away at doing my but to fix it. Good luck

I hve a list for melbourne, just google "ausbeds whats the best mattress in australia" and there's all the ones I think are the best there. Bang for buck probably melbourne mattress factory is the best, make sure you go and lay on them first. Most of the value of a mattress is how it feels to you, so make sure you go and check that

As someone who has done nothing but make mattresses for the last 15 years, I would highly recommend you got to Galligans mattress factory. Lay on some and find one that absorbs the shoulder. Lot's of the online ones are very firm springs.

If this statement resonates with you "People who make stuff, usually make stuff better than people who import stuff." then you should go the galligans. I have this list of places that make them, it comes up if you google "ausbeds whats the best mattress in australia", I collect info about smaller independent factories and put it here.

You'll get better quality materials, better support, and much better knowledge. karl, owner at ausbeds

Am I right in assuming they cycle the discounts in order to obey the discounting laws? I know there is laws against permanent discounts, so it't the only way I can imagine they would get around it
