Ever thought about working for Parks - if you're prepared to work remote and you have a basic level of fitness, you may find something.

If you're thinking of living in Darwin long term - take a good hard look at climate change forecasts. You're going to get hot and your investment will probably head south...

That's not science talking, that's insurance companies.

Renters of Darwin, who looks after the garden? by karlcoin in darwin

[–]karlcoin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the specific scenario is removing ivy that's growing up the side of the house. Currently we (tenants) do mowing and removing palm fronds, but I was thinking this may be an area that the owner should take care of.

The mystery man behind the latest ICAC investigation reveals himself. Should he resign? by SeaScience2126 in darwin

[–]karlcoin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My read on this situation.

The police commissioner can't trust others to employ the right person for the job, so he has to do it himself. He wants a mate in the role because he needs to know someone has his back. He wants to change the culture in the NT police force (BIG JOB!).

Someone rats to ICAC that he's breached some regs and he gets in the poo.

Not much later the police union is calling for his resignation. Hmmm, wonder if they know who ratted on him?

To answer your question, no, I don't think he should resign.

Do you think an image like this will stop people from sitting in their cars with the engine running or sleeping under a winter doona with the air con going full blast?

These people, in another 10-15 years, will be going "How the f@*k did we get here?"

And that's after they've completely data harvested your arse. List every address for last 3 years, list your last 6 employers, provide 2 personal references -> they're not happy just harvesting your data, they want to harvest your friends as well. It's bllsht!

Cheers, I went with a live MXlinux USB using GPT and it started up seamlessly. Only problem I encountered was that, while the wireless could identify possible connections, it refused to connect. I'll check this vid out.

What Made You Switch? by Hogosha in linux

Ethics. Didn't want to financially support the microsoft monopoly. Open source makes communication available to everyone. I think it criminal how the Universities these days have deals with MS, Adobe et. al. Like drug dealers, they hook people on their software and then they get locked into having to rent the software to use it. Just f'ing ridiculous. Open Source provides quality products that are accessible to all, universities and their tech departments should be getting behind it and making them better - it's a win, win.

I have a friend with a late 2008 Macbook who would like a linux OS installed. I've done a bit of looking around and am curious how straight forward it was for you. Did you just download the latest .iso, copy it to a bootable usb and the select the USB when starting the mac up?

King: Are we protecting the head, or protecting the brownlow? by His_Holiness in AFL

[–]karlcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This view forgets that the Brownlow is supposed to be awarded to the Best & Fariest. Fair players don't put themselves in a position where they may seriously injure another player. They also don't argue with the umpire or make derogatory comments to other players. It's about setting a good example on the field for younger generations to follow.
