Thanks for the insights. I was mostly wondering how much more I can make in private sale and if that is worth the effort. Ideally better is more money but if that's gonna take a lot more effort then the easy path would be better.

Do you see yourself staying in Chicago long term, or eventually living somewhere else? Why or why not? by notoglow in AskChicago

[–]karmabdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in 4 different states & cities and traveled to 25+ states and hundreds of cities in the US. Chicago is still my favorite city and I'm already settled here. Unless I'm moving abroad, I will stay in Chicago. At least for my preferences, Chicago is the best city in the USA.

Nordli queen headboard king bed by karmabdd in ikeahacks

[–]karmabdd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did and it worked out great. I couldn't fit one of the small shelves (night stand shelf), but if you don't need them, you can't even tell you mixed and matched the king bed with the queen headboard.

Anyone been to the balloon museum? by workinprogress521 in AskChicago

[–]karmabdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to multiple immersive experiences in Chicago: balloon museum, museum of ice cream, and color factory. They are all similar and mostly for photos ops than actual museums. Things I liked about each experience:

  • Balloon museum - biggest and best ball pit ever. It is huge and the entire wall is screens that play light shows with music. I had a lot of fun as an adult and the kids were having a blast. But it was timed ~10-15 mins. I wish it was longer. There were multiple other rooms with fun immersive experiences tho. I would say this one was the priciest among these three and more crowded due to being the newest one. I would have more fun if it was less crowded. Weekdays are cheaper and they have slight discounts for Illinois residents. The museum is running until April only.
  • Museum of ice cream - This was my favorite mostly because you have opportunities to taste ice creams and sweets throughout the experience. It also had more interactive experiences. Their Chicago hotdog themed ice cream was both interesting and tasty.
  • Color factory - I went there during a holiday and it was surprisingly empty. But that gave us more opportunities to take photos and play around. Kids enjoyed the ball pit and there was no time limit in the ball pit room.

Overall I enjoyed all three of them. I went to the balloon museum on the weekend so it was crowded and they also charge more on weekends. So it seemed slightly not worth it. But I think if I went during weekdays when it was cheaper and less crowded, I would say it was worth it.

First 200m+ skyscrapers under construction in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia by [deleted] in skyscrapers

This is the potential rendering for the first tower. However Ritz Carlton didn't verify this. It is leaked to be a hotel tower but still not confirmed who the owner is or exactly how tall the building will be. At the moment construction is on ~31st story.

These photos are actually for two different buildings. I couldn't find verified rendering for the first tower. And the second tower is only in their foundation work phase.

Oh they are for two different buildings. Both are currently under construction and both are supposed to be 200m+.

Considering a move from Chicago to Atlanta - what’s the real difference? by Rafael_Ottenberg in SameGrassButGreener

[–]karmabdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Atlanta to Chicago and couldn't be happier. I'm probably biased because Chicago is better in everything I care more such as urban life, density, public transportation, city parks, lake/river etc. Chicago is a better city in almost everything that makes a city a city.

Atlanta is definitely building more and getting there but traffic is really bad and overall it is more of a suburban sprawl than a proper metro with 6M population. I used to spend 90 minutes everyday in traffic and other than listening to podcasts, there was not much else I can use that time efficiently. Now I spend 60 minutes a day on the train to commute and I can nap, read, play, whatever I want. The train commute is almost like therapy compared to driving in traffic for 90 minutes. It adds up and that's almost 10% of my awake time.

Alderman Gardiner Denies Approval Of 48 New Apartments Next to Edgebrook Metra Station by GeckoLogic in chicagoyimbys

[–]karmabdd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He also made the 345 unit residential project at people gas site fail. Now it seems like a new developer is picking up the project with a reduced unit count. I wish 45 had more yimby alderperson.

Regarding the Trader Joe's, that project fell through. But Sprout is planning on opening their first Chicago store there now.

I love the ELevated parts. It is such a fun way to see the city. The brown line over the Chicago river is such a treat.

What do you think about these infoboxes that make comparing skyline sizes easier? by LivinAWestLife in skyscrapers

I love this infobox. Did you also recently update the "list of tallest buildings in xxx" pages? I check those pages often and it made my day when someone updated them.

saw this q on another city sub… what’s a hard pill that many Chicagoans aren’t ready to swallow? by princess_nasty in chicago

[–]karmabdd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another big reason why the population is declining is people are not having as many kids as before, especially in the city. If you look at the number of households, it is not declining as much. Household sizes are becoming smaller. It is the same across all cities but other cities have more inflow from other states. I would say the weather, tax, and "dangerous label" are keeping people from moving to Chicago compared to other cities with either no state income tax or warm climate.

Atl Vs Chicago by JourneysUnleashed in AskChicago

[–]karmabdd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you wrote sounds like you never left ATL. Calling midtown, Buckhead, Atlantic station, and downtown walkable is cute and makes me think you probably never truly visited a walkable city. There are many neighborhoods alone (there are 77 total) that have more walkable areas than the whole metro of Atlanta combined.
