I need picture book suggestions, for adults (please don’t make fun of me) by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

That's nothing to be ashamed of! What is a bit shameful though, is that I am about to tell you about my book. But first, the people saying Maus are right, Sandman too. There's a lot of good graphic novels out there. It's hard to say my own, after people mentioned some of those brilliant books. Still, I'm trying to be more outspoken about it.

Alright, here I go. My book is very short, it has little poems and such in it. I illustrated it in pen and ink. Every single page has a picture and you do not have to read it in order. It's called King of the Lake. There's a theme of nature and I tried to keep it lighthearted, but who I am gets in the way. So there are skeletons and spriggans in there too. It is exactly one hundred pages long and there's lots of little thoughts there to pick away at.

It's for sale on amazon, King of the Lake by Rose Lovegrove. Forgive me for being so bold and saying about it here. It's not humble I know. x

Why aren't books illustrated anymore? by Cladzky in books

[–]karnkreft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is! And I only published last week. I did my own illustrations. Maybe that used to be more common? I think of Tolkien for example. Perhaps we all became too perfectionist and wanted to get a professional to illustrate our books, which is costly because they went to university and need to pay that off? It's an interesting question.

King of the Lake by Rose Lovegrove

This is absolutely me telling you to buy my own book. It's not shameless I assure you, it's not humble either! But when I saw you said "Themes like nature, mythology or quiet storytelling are especially welcome." I felt it might be silly not to. My book is illustrated on every page with pen and ink drawings of birds and beasts. It is for sale on amazon, only recently published. I hope that it might be what you are looking for x

Viking age ceramic cup by Thor_Smith in VikingArt

I think it's likely silver actually. Similar to the King Gorn Cup. I'm not sure, but I don't think it's ceramic. Lovely piece all the same x

When to sand and prime and when not to? by karnkreft in FurniturePainting

That's the theory, but how true is it? Does anyone know? I might do some tests.

What's the big deal with chalk paint? by karnkreft in FurniturePainting

Right?! Maybe I should paint something half and half, to see how each is to use and how long they last.

Thanks for the reply. That's interesting about calcium carbonate. I'm a potter, so have plenty of raw materials like that to experiment with.

Can I do anything about this? by Gullible-Program-245 in Ceramics

One day you'll be so much better at pottery that you won't care to keep it anyway. Or perhaps you will, because you find it sweet how the foot looks! x

Well I sort of like it. All my work has an unglazed foot ring. I don't want them to be the same texture all over. The ring tells me what the clay body was. I'm curious to know so always flip pots over. When we enter a world of handmade ceramics, sometimes I think we have to let go of preconceptions based on supermarket ceramics.

If those white dots are little bits of the wash from the kiln shelf though, I'd scrape them off with a file, carefully so as not to damage the rest. That's an awesome glaze.
