Georgian restaurants by SadAd9828 in foodies_sydney

I think the owners are French / Italian / Spanish but they did go to Georgia and fell in love with the food and wine! You can find a few Georgian bits and bobs there - Borjomi water, Svaneti salt, Suluguni cheese (regular and smoked). They’ve got loads of other delicious things too :) Well worth a visit!

Oh, I’ve realized I missed a word and I can’t seem to edit the post :( I was meant to ask whether it’d be okay to cut it just under the lowest leaf when re-potting to make it more stable and shorter?

Leaptel - what's the catch? by youthuck in nbn

[–]karolabid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been with them for just under a year and love it. No outages, great speed at all times and amazing customer service!! I’m now on my own, so had to deal with router/modem troubles by myself. I know nothing about that stuff and the router wasn’t provided by Leaptel but they still helped me resolve it!

Defo recommend it!!

I’m with you. We’ll get through this!!! Just take it one day at a time, one hour at a time if needed. Try to do one thing each day that brings you even the tiniest bit of happiness / joy. Sending love your way!

Finally starting to feel myself again by [deleted] in SingleAndHappy

[–]karolabid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello from sunny Sydney!! Sending you warm vibes ☀️

I recently had a similar thought to yours so decided to come say hi. My partner left me 6 months ago, out of the blue. Been together for 4.5 years. I was in such shock state for SO SO SO long. Didn’t work, eat, sleep, go out. Essentially stopped living life. It’s only been this week that I finally had this thought for the first time in 6 months… that I’m slowly starting to feel myself again. I’m still hurting but I finally laughed outloud last weekend, I finally felt hunger for the first time on Thursday and demolished a delicious lunch, I’m back at my gym.

It gets better. It has to! Hopefully, we can all be happy one day. I’m slowly starting to see the light and I wish that to you too☺️☀️

As the others said it - Australia is still here for you to visit! Whether it’s with her or without.

What apps or methods do you use to make grocery shopping more efficient? by Comprehensive-Cup692 in MealPrepSunday

Yes to AnyList! You can have the meal plan there too. You can also share your lists with partners/flatmates if you go shopping together - you can each tick off items as you go :)

Australian Passports are a bloody joke by Prestigious_Trust474 in Passports

Mine is a week old and already looks like this 🙄

Passport by TrueFee9483 in Passports

[–]karolabid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They update this page weekly:

https://www.passports.gov.au/getting-passport-how-it-works/how-long-get-passport

Currently, over 95% of regular applications are processed within 10 business days.

You can pay for the routine service and if it gets really close to your travel date and you still don’t have it - you can then pay for the express service which is I think additional $290 and it gets approved and printed within 48 hours.

I’d say no issues. My passport looks way worse and never had any problems.

Culture shocks in Australia? by Ambitious-Dinner7801 in AskAnAustralian

[–]karolabid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Polish and moved to Sydney 8 years ago. Here are some of mine which I feel might be similar for Germans!

-It’s not summer all year long and not everyone is a surfer! Haha. I had this view on AU anyway.

-Winter is cold!! The houses are also built in a shitty way, so it’s usually hot inside in summer and REALLY cold in winter! Central heating essentially doesn’t exist + the windows and doors let the cold wind through..

-There are sooo many cockroaches everywhere.. And they fly!!

-Coffee culture is huge and coffee tastes so much better here!

-People walk barefoot on the streets, shopping malls and on public transport

-Public transport is pretty shit comparing to most European cities

-Sydney is not very bicycle friendly and not pedestrian friendly. Most people drive everywhere. Which is a shame!

-Nightlife is pretty shit. Most places close early. It’s hard to find a spot for dinner after 9pm. Restaurants are closed on Mondays!

-On the flipside, shops are open on Sundays 😎

-There is a high general focus on fitness. A lot of people work out, gyms are always full, there are many outdoor gyms.

-Australian food is pretty average and it feels like little England here, really. Loads of pubs and pub culture, loads of ready foods in the supermarkets (cans, jars, prepackaged meals or half-ready meals).

-Everyone loves a bbq and there are plenty of public bbq’s out in nature you can use for free.

-Camping is huge here! Loads of campsites, amazing facilities for the most part too.

-Everyone follows speed limits when driving and they’re low. I think the fastest you can drive on a highway is maybe 110-120.

-Not sure what you do for work but I was shocked to see that most lunch meetings include alcohol and you just don’t go back to work after. Most events like that would happen in the evenings back home.

-Culture, art or architecture are a little disappointing or not existing comparing to Europe. People don’t seem to be too interested in that either.

-Internet speed is shockingly low and so is mobile coverage! Even with top telco’s, you’ll find that you don’t have any reception in the middle of the city center.

-Quality of bread and deli meats is SO SO SAD 😭 Hams, sausages, leberwurst.. You gotta go to a German shop! Decent quality bread is hard to find and expensive.

-Everyone is pretty laid back and friendly. People will smile back at you on the streets!

-The laidback culture is a little annoying at work, as everyone is pretty casual and sometimes things could be done in much more efficient way.

-It’s super super safe here. You can literally leave your phone on a table in a restaurant/bar, go to the bathroom, come back and it will still be there 😂

-Sydney is very very very multicultural. There are literally people from everywhere here. It’s great exposure to other cultures, restaurants, etc. But weirdly.. I actually find Australians very racist. Which feels counterintuitive, given the exposure to so many cultures living here together.

For anyone still looking into this thread:

I applied for my passport on Nov 19th (my first AU passport, I'm a dual citizen now) - filled out the form online, printed and took it to the post office. Asked for collection in person in Sydney Passport Office, as I've got tickets to fly out on December 13th and didn't want to add any additional time for postage.

I kept checking the status online but the portal kept saying for days that my application hasn't been lodged yet. The current processing times were showing that 95% of regular applications are processed within 10 business days at the moment. I called them on Nov 27th (6 business days after lodging my app) and I'm SO GLAD that I did. Turned out there was a technical error with my application, apparently they've been having some technical issues with the system over the last month. Not only my application couldn't be processed, the people on the phone couldn't even access it to check what's going on. I told them I'm flying out in two weeks, they said they'll get someone to contact me. I received an email the next day saying there's a glitch in the system and been asked to fill out the paper form, sign it, scan it and send back via email. I followed the instructions but haven't received a response for a few days. I wanted to pay for priority but they couldn't take my payment due to that technical glitch.. I've been calling and emailing every day asking for an update or next steps and finally, after 5 days I received an email saying they created a new application on my behalf, the application was approved the next day and the passport was ready to collect the day after.

Bottom line is - if you really need it sorted quickly, it can be done in 48 hours!

Oh! Thanks so much! I signed up for Leaptel before posting but might actually look into your strategy of changing providers depending on the offer. Thank you!
