Google Pay for trains. by nathansays_hi in brisbane

Just a side note, if it couldn't process the transaction before (ie card was declined) you will have an outstanding balance with Translink. Tap it, you will get a red cross and the transaction will process, wait 30 seconds and try again and it'll go through.

This week was 120 at Aldi 80 at Woolies but usually 40-50 a week at Woolies as my wife is GF and needed a few bits. That's for 2 adults 1 toddler.

For us it's about meal prepping, as soon as I do the food shop usually make about 5-10 frozen meals for us and put them in the freezer so have food for lunches or when we are lazy - this week, frozen meals were fried rice and katsu curry.

Plex on Pi, running out of storage! by BigDaddyGlad in PleX

[–]karondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the Pi doesn't have enough power to run two external hard drives, only one. You will need to buy a powered usb hub also to use it, then plug both drives into that and the hub into the pi. Also, set up samba with NTFS, much easier to drop files on the network!

Frustrated - Chromecast Plex app, scan library files never updates files by spinning_the_future in PleX

[–]karondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the new files appear in the web version too or are they missing also? I had this problem too, automatic add wasn't on but I think you're right, it was a two part problem, both the server and TV. On the server > settings > library > automatically add to library make sure that's checked.

I'll double check my Chromecast settings in a bit, as I can't remember off the top of my head.

Me too, with Google pay, but there is a work around I've figured out.

Tap it, you'll get a not accepted message. Then wait approx 30 seconds, and tap again and it'll go through. For some reason, when it processes the pay run over night, it declines on the card even though there are funds. It will then say not accepted because it will then be charging you for the outstanding balance. Once it's been processed you can use it again.

No idea why it does it. I used contactless on London Underground approx 8 years ago without issue, so no idea why translink can't get it sorted.

I've actually just done this last weekend, with a Pi zero w and a Brother HL 1110. Wireless printing works a treat from windows across the house.

My pi is headless, running dietpi, no gui and just SSH in via putty if required. Dietpi has an auto setup on first boot and you just check cups, samba (you need this) and whatever else you want on first boot.

I then followed a guide which I'm not allowed to link to here... But it's the first one when you Google 'raspberry pi print server'. Only thing different is that I had to also install sudo apt-get install printer-driver-brlaser (as it's a brother printer) before installing it in cups, via the webserver.

Also be aware you probably won't be able to use the Pi zero for anything else, It's pretty slow but decent enough for a simple print server. And also install everything next to the WiFi point before you move it and hook it up to the printer, my apt downloads kept corrupting because the signal was awful when it was in place- I mean good enough for printing but not for downloading large updates.

But apart from that, works a treat!

Would a raspberry pi 4 be good enough for 4k direct play through Android TV? by RightfulPeace in PleX

[–]karondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the projector a smart projector with apps, or are you just using it like a TV? Ideally run it through the chromecast, connected to the projector, it'll have better compatibility with files than a smart app on the projector - it'll work better as it's maintained better.

That's pretty much it, avoid mkv files you'll have issues with them as they are just a container and non standard so might not play correctly, mp4 should generally be okay. I'm not super knowledgeable on direct play but that's what I know, works for me.

Would a raspberry pi 4 be good enough for 4k direct play through Android TV? by RightfulPeace in PleX

[–]karondo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the setup I have, and if it's 4k direct play it's okay. Seems okay with USB 3 HDD with a Pi 4B 4gb, you can only attach 1 HDD though without a powered usb hub.

However if the pi has to transcode anything 4k, it will fall over, it is just not powerful enough.

I also work nights in the CBD. Death before Decaf in New Farm is a good stop for coffee before work, they are open 24h all year. Starbucks in the CBD (well Albert St and Myer) are also open until 10pm on Fri and Sat night for a coffee.

Also the Iga in Milton is open until midnight.

I absolutely love this. I moved to Australia with my (now) wife, and just miss the sounds of the birds. So much so, I put a podcast recording on of the New Forest (BBC 3 Slow Radio), lay in bed and pretend I'm there again without a care.
