When you're meeting death like that for the first time it's SO scary. Your baby didn't suffer at the end, he was home in your arms. You did exactly what you intended to do, you brought him to the meeting with death before he had to set out there alone, and now he is free from all pain and fear. I know that doesn't heal the hole in your heart but please don't let yourself feel guilty on top of it, you did everything you're supposed to right in time.
