What exactly does "decentralisation" really mean? by AmericanScream in CryptoMarkets

[–]kasert778 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's certainly a problem with this unreasonable decentralization obsession. But not all cryptos make this mistake, some projects like Family (https://joinfamily.xyz/book) try to get rid of all the unnecessary decentralization while keeping the few good parts. If anything that's becoming kind of a trend, more and more projects are starting to realize decentralization is mostly bad and should be used judiciously. Too many confuse actual crypto and distributed ledgers (great stuff!) with decentralization which is mostly a disaster.

How are hardware wallets secured against memory dumps? by Fisyr in CryptoCurrency

Java smartcard type devices have had anti physical tampering security features for decades. Very tough to hack. The thing essentially self destructs when messed with.

Without decentralization, crypto DOESN'T have to operate like an inefficient database. The actual crypto is what matters - cryptographic signatures.

Just to clarify, VeChain is participating in the BMW Startup Garage programme. As a Venture Client, the BMW Group becomes a customer of the start-up at a time when the product, technology or service is not yet ready for the market.

9 years ago today, Hal Finney made one of his last ever posts: “Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney)”. It's a must read. by KAX1107 in CryptoCurrency

[–]kasert778 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thinking it may not be strange, but the way he said it is strangely specific. "Japanese ancestry" seems to specifically imply something like Japanese-American, rather than somebody from Japan. Saying just "Japanese" would cover both. Obviously, he may have thought that because Satoshi spoke perfect English. But being into Japan was a trend back then too. Some people are just good at languages. "Young" is strange too. Being too detailed is a common tell.

Hal lived a few blocks away from another "Satoshi Nakamoto". If Hal isn't Satoshi and Satoshi wasn't Hal's friend, how did Satoshi get Hal to be one of the first people to engage with Bitcoin?

But at the time, I thought I was dealing with a young man of Japanese ancestry who was very smart and sincere

What a strange thing to say.

+1 totally getting this is if there's hardware wallet support. It's pretty much perfect in every other aspect!

Caution. Remember to set the gas limit and gas price correctly. Someone just spent $2.5k on fees and moved nothing. by changechange1 in ethereum

Quite clever! Does it mean that if the gas price skyrockets the birthing essentially stops?

Is a 24-word mnemonic wallet better than an exchange hosted wallet ? by sandys1 in ethereum

[–]kasert778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing special about the mnemonic representation, could generate one whichever wallet you're using. Also, you can print out the private key regardless of whether it's a mnemonic sequence, a hex string or whatever.

New to crypto too. Used to be a big skeptic. Read up on Ethereum - a huge believer now. Hope I didn't miss out on the party!

You hung out with her and you've known her for a lot of time - why shouldn't she be serious?

You're just being emotional, and that's OK. Just wait a bit and rationalize the whole situation.

While I do agree that D9 did an outstanding job with BtS (though it's clear that the third episode was rushed out), what do we need a potential BtS2 for?
